Thanks... willdo.

Is there a trick to exposing the additional settings other than hitting Ctrl+F1 ?

Do you have to be positioned at a particular spot in the BIOS or should it just happen?

After F5 (as I recall) you don't need to hit CTRL-F1 anymore.
The 'extra' ram subtiming settings are now all front and present.

Thanks guys... I think I've got it.

Having a different problem right now though... no matter what fsb I set the board to... it just keeps coming up with 2.4Ghz (stock settings)

I go back and check the BIOS and there, large as life are the settings I have entered, but when she boots, it boots at stock settings.

Ideas?

I updated to F10 this morning via @BIOS and it actually kept my overclocking settings. I haven't tried running orthos but it appears to be running ok so far. No strangeness at the moment. If I think of it I'll kick off orthos later today if I get a chance to see how it goes.

This board is fresh back from RMA and now has had BIOS F10 installed not once, but 3 times to be sure it's taken properly...

I go into BIOS and set things up with a mild overclock like 333fsb and ram below spec. I hit F10, save and exit... Upon reboot, it says (every time) 267*9=2.4Ghz.

Go into Windows and it's the same story.

Here is a couple of screenies which hopefully might be helpful...

After you set your OC in your bios, save, & reboot does does the computer do a "double reboot"? If so, that's your computer saying it doesn't like the OC and sets back to default values.

The only other thing I can suggest is trying a different bios from F10. I'm still running F4g with the below specs. If it still has the same problem at least you have eliminated F10 as the problem.

One more thing, I noticed you have a lot of settings in you bios set to Auto. Try setting everything manually. Referece this link

6750 OC thread

Thanks for that.

It does do the 'double-boot' thing, but I'm used to that from my 965-board days. Should it not be doing that?

I have backed it right back as low as 270fsb, and it still does the double-boot and still sits at 2.4

I might try a different BIOS I think.

I recently put together a system using a Geforce 650 based motherboard but had to abandon it due to significant system instability. I purchased my Gigabyte P35-DSR3 (revision 2.1) two days ago and have been toying with it constantly since then. After much tweaking, I have it running stable at a minimal overclock (6750@3.0).

I noticed when I first booted up my system CPU-z was telling me the core clock was set to 1.1 V! I had to manually set the voltage in the Bios so I can understand the comments above about tweaking the system voltage. I also had to disable all the CPU EIS, CPU Enhanced Halt and CPU thermal monitor to do any type of overclocking (CPU multiplier would be decreased on boot up and only increased as the CPU was loaded).

I have one final annoying issue. When I boot to windows, I need to have a bootable CD in the DVD player or it won't boot to Windows. I've tried to adjust the boot priority in Bios, eliminate the CD boot options- nothing works! If I don't have the Windows CD in the drive it hangs up after the DMI check thingee. It will say that no boot drive was detected. Very odd.

I'm going to try the F11 bios today and I'm definitely going to cross my fingers! I've come to realize that ALL motherboards have their "quirks" and the manufacturers do not have build-it-yourself 'ers as a top priority (which I can understand).

Any thoughts on this Windows boot problem??

Well, no dice. Loaded F11 and no changes.

BIOS says:

Loading DMI pool data....
Boot from CD/DVD:
Boot from CD/DVD

If I have the Windows disc in my player, it will then say "hit key to load from CD"; if I don't hit any key, Windows loads normallly.

If no CD is in the drive, I receive a message:
Disc Error
Press any key to reboot.

This happen no matter what the boot priortity is.

my friend had the same problem. He had to reinstall windows. remember to delete the partition first and totaly start fresh.

@ fritzman
Like I thought, i don't think your rig likes your overclock. That's why it keeps going back to default. Are we talking about your "main rig"? I would try just 2 gigs and see what that does.

Some stuff removed

As MrFatBoy recommended try running with 2Gb of memory vs 4Gb. I'm running with 4Gb of Corsair Dominator PC8500 1066 memory slowed down to about 82x speed for a roughly 1:1 ratio. I'm OC'd to 3.71xGhz with an E6850 C2D cpu. I'm running with 4-4-4-12 settings on the memory, my CPU voltage is about what Mrfatboy's is or one notch higher but our CPU's are running 1333 FSB.I have the G(MCH) +.1V as well as bumped my ram voltage up +.2 to get it around 2.1x Volts.

And when the motherboard doesn't like the settings it will do the double reset and set back to stock values which I like a lot about this board. I am debating on dropping down to 2Gb memory and see if I can squeeze anything else out of the board as I am about maxxed when I went through this process last fall/early winter with Mrfatboy's assistance. I went and read through this entire thread. A lot of material to cover.

Good luck!

Wow this topic is still alive! Good because I have some problems.

First, that whole issue where I could not upgrade my disc drive's firmware because it uses IDE Channel 4 (therefore cannot change to PIO mode) is still unresolved. I can live with it though.

Now I have a new problem: file integrity! I recently noticed that some software installations are failing due to read errors or something. I ran hard drive diagnostics software on my hard drives and there are no problems. My suspicion is that the mainboard may be faulty.

I tried to test my files by using MD5 hashes, but the exact same file produces different hashes almost every time I run the MD5 sum on it! I've tried all the BIOS versions, but the results are the same. Could someone try this on their set up? If anything, I'd like to rule out the mainboard as the cause. (By the way, the file I tested was ~4gb. Smaller files hash out fine.)

Mikawo

EDIT: It seems my problem was badly configured RAM. The AUTO settings didn't work too well. I increased CAS Latency and everything seems to work OK now.

I am having a very strange problem with this motherboard and I am wondering if anyone can help me fix it/has had the same problem!

When I turn my computer on it hangs at the boot splash screen for approx. 4 - 5 minutes before continuing to boot as normal. Can prove highly annoying if I need the computer started up fast!!

I tried upgrading to F10 bios but the problem is still there....anyone?!

it seems to be waiting for something then "errors out" and moves on. a couple of thoughts.

1) do you have the "gigabyte" splash screen still enabled? If so, disable it in bios, then reboot, watch where it now hangs up and let us know.

2)Try disconnecting external devices if you have any (usb, etc). See if that stops it. the reconnect the devices one by one and reboot every time.

That's all I got for now.

Ahhh many thanks mrfatboy, it was something so simple that I just overlooked it.....It was a problem with an external device....A USB Infra-red receiver from "Terratec" which when pulled out allowed the computer to boot as normal!!

I have a new problem with this board.

Several months ago I came to this forum and it was a great asset in getting my overclock set. Greatly appreciate everyones help.
I could never get my memory to run at the tighter advertised timings however, and I tried several bios and none made any difference, at +0.3 volts I get errors in orthos and at +.04 volts I don't post with this board even though the sticks are rated up to 2.3 volts according to CPU_Z. So I can live with the looser timings. Recently I decide to test the memory in memtest again, and the test will not load it just hangs in the bios and never gives me option to load from CD. I try some old kingston memory it will not load the test either, I try both the patriot and the kingston in an old dell I have laying around and they run the memtest CD fine with no errors for 2 passes.

So am I to believe that my memory controller is shot from pumping up the volts? I have it set to load from the optical drive so that is not the issue. I can not determine that it is having any effect on the machine, not getting errors in Orthos, windows and all programs operate normally as far as I can tell with the quirks of Vista 64 taken into account. I am currently in discussion with Gigabyte support and do not want to RMA and have my computer out of commission for a week or more and then ahve to reinstall everything again if I don't have too.

Any ideas?

HI folks, new here and attempting my first build in 8 years, so pls excuse any silly errors.

I am having a very strange problem with my new motherboard and I am wondering if anyone has had these problems!

New build today, all components are new except HDrive and DVD/CDRW drive, but both work fine in my old system.
Problem1
I have a 250gb seagate IDE and Toshiba DVD/CDRW IDE drives, I have attached these via IDE and checked bios to make sure IDE is enabled and when I boot I can see the Seagate as Master4 slave but no DVD/CDRW drive. I have checked the jumpers on both drives and they are set correctly, ie Seagate master and Toshiba Slave.
Problem2
When I exit the bios(original as of today) It starts to boot XP but after approx 15 seconds reboots again.
I have tried HD alone, same problem. I can get it to load vista when I go to DVD/CDRW as boot device and disconnect the hard drive, so I think the mobo/CPU/Mem/GCard are okay, any ideas anyone.

G'day all.

Getting one of these boards tomorrow on the basis of a few reads of hardware review sites and I fancy upgrading to DDR3 when the price is right

Matching it up with an E8400/Freezer Pro, 4GB G.Skill DDR2PC2-8500C5, BFG 8800GTS O/C & 150GB WD Raptor in an Antec P182 with Hiper 630w PSU.

Chewed through many pages of this thread and it's bookmarked on my old build, figure I might need to read some stuff again.

Great deal of info here so thanks, hope I won't need any of it

Wish me luck.

Hokay, feel noobish asking this but can't find answers elsewhere after MUCH searching.
My mobo is set up with a WD Raptor (boot drive) and a DVDRW on the Intel SATA ports and 2 IDE drives on the IDE channel.
What's driving me nuts is - what is the absolutely correct setup for this hardware in the Integrated Peripherals section of the BIOS? In particular the two settings for SATA AHCI mode and SATA Control Mode.
I've tried various combinations but obviously I want the best performance from my system. It also concerns me that HDTune shows the Raptor supports UDMA Mode 6 but only UDMA Mode 5 is active.
Any and all suggestions much appreciated.

Well, I didn't even need to take it out of the bag, northbridge heatsink all over the place, only attached by the 2 small rubber plugs, and it can be moved in any direction at all.

Ah well, there goes my rebuild.
