I want to connect it to the CPU fan header, just to keep things neat (no extra wires I don't need), but I wanted to make sure this would work, because I read in the manual that:

"The motherboard supports CPU fan speed control, which requires the use of a CPU fan with fan speed control design."

I don't think my fan supports this (?), so I can simply disable this "speed control" in the BIOS which will let my fan run at it's fullest potential without causing any issues?

Noise is definitely a concern for me so if I had to run the fan at full speed all the time no matter what then I might have to consider another option.

The tuniq at full speed is loud and very annoying, set the controller to halfway (about the 12 0 clock position and you can barely hear it yet there's still plenty of air pumping through it. It's the 120mm fan, you have to look carefully to notice it's spinning, but put your hand next to the cooler and you'll be suprised at the amount of air coming out of the exhaust side ... brilliant cooler!

Yeah, I did the same thing with my Zalman 9700, if you turn off the speed control, it just runs it at full speed. Which for the Scythe should be relatively quiet anyway.

I've got the Tuniq on my new P35-DSP3 w/e6750. I had to turn the fan to full just to check that it was running. I thought it was much quieter than I was expecting. The two 80mm case fans and the PS fan are pretty quiet, too. But, I did leave the tuniq fan at half-speed.

Hi,

I've been having a slight problem with my GA-P35C-DS3R and since most people posting in this thread have the board, I thought maybe you guys could help.

I have PATA drives hooked up and in Windows XP SP2, they show up as being SCSI drives. I was wondering if any of you have had this problem and how you were able to resolve it.

I first noticed this when I wanted to flash my optical drive's firmware but it required the drive to be in PIO mode. If you don't know, this mode can be set from the device manager in the corresponding settings for the IDE channel that the drive is on. There is one device listed in the IDE controller configuration and it's my main SATA (OS) drive. None of the controllers had my optical drive on it. I'm assuming this is because Windows is treating it as a SCSI drive. In order to flash it, I had to use another computer (Windows XP also) that was able to identify it as IDE correctly.

I believe it may be a driver problem, but I've tried removing the Intel chipset drivers and using the standard windows drivers with no luck.

Anyone else experience this? Any luck getting Windows to properly recognize the drives as IDE?

Thanks,
Mikawo

I just got my system up and running today. I had an old drive that i put in that I thought was IDE but it came up scsi. I just moved on. I will have to check it again to see if is really scsi. I will let you know if i find anything.

Just started setting up my new rig last night. No IDE hard drive though but I do have an IDE optical. While installing Windows XP and full formatting the SATA harddrive , there was an error message reading saying there might be a malfunction with the harddrive or that I have a SCSI hard drive that I did not identify as such. I just cancelled out of that, did a quick format of the new partition that was created despite the Windows XP error warning above, and moved on. Everything else was smooth sailing, except for this one other error while Setup was copying files. It said this one random file could not be copied for setup, but I just said to skip the file and again moved on.

XP is installed now, drivers are all installed, and everything appears to be running fine despite those warrnings above.

What CPU, speed, voltages, and temps is everyone running with this board?

I have my e6750 running stock. Core voltage (set to auto/"normal" in the bios) reads 1.28 in both Sandra and Speedfan. Temps read 16C at idle and 27C at load in SpeedFan. Similar readings from Sanda. I read in another thread that to get accurate temps for this CPU in SpeedFan, you need to add 15C to the readings, which gives me 31C idle and 42C at load.

I want to overclock to 3.2 - 3.4. What voltages and temps are you guys getting at those speeds?

I just finished my rig last last. I ran orthos for 10 hours at 3.2 @ stock volts. Yesterday I ran orthos for 35 minutes at 3.4 @ stock volts. Ram 5 5 5 18. Temps are 15C idle and 26C load (then add 15C). Some other temp reading is 47C (i think mother board)

At 3.4, all of my fans were on low, i'm going to try again with them higher then start playing with the volts.

So far Speed fan, TAT, Coretemp all have matching temps.

What are the stock volts? I read in a few places that stock core voltage was 1.35, but my mobo says that normal voltage is 1.325, and both sandra and speedfan say same thing but are showing 1.28

Do you have the core voltage set manually or have it set at auto in the bios?

Looks like you're getting 1 degree better temps than me with the same cpu cooler (tuniq 120). I must have not applied enough of that thermal paste. I think some of it was scraped off when I was rotating that cooler over the CPU to reorient the direction of the fan and fins. My friend said that rotating it actually probably help smooth the paste and thin it out because according to him you barely need any of it on there at all, but I'm still a little skeptical.

I think your Tuniq is mounted fine. It depends on the ambient temp also. The temps will go up and down.

I have not touched the voltage at all in the bios. I have not gotten that far.

To check/set memory timings, Press CTR + F1 at bios main menu. It will flash and will have more settings exposed in the MB inteligent tweaker menu.

I just built my new computer using this motherboard and am having a cooling issue. I am using A freezer 7 pro cpu cooler, which puts my cpu running at 30 - 40 celsius.

The problem is that my system temperature is now ~50 celsius. I don't know if maybe since the after market cooler is directional rather than blowing air straight down onto the board like the Intel one if that interferes with the passive cooling.

I also have the auto-fan speed thing turned on, but turning it off does not really seem to help.

EDIT:
I just talked to their tech support, and they informed me that the normal working temperature of the north bridge is around 70 celsius.

Hello people!

I'm about to order this motherboard but I have a few things that are still unclear to me, could use your help! Here's my main concern;

Installing OS from a SATA DVD drive... I've heard Sata Optical Drives don't like running under AHCI mode. So I want them in IDE mode, which, AFAIK, won't require SATA drivers to install Windows. But while the Sata controller is under IDE mode, I am missing out on some sata exclusive features for my hard disk, like NCQ and even eSATA I heard.

That leads to my question. From what I've gathered, there are 2 different Sata Controllers on the board. The Intel ICH9R controller has 6 ports while Gigabyte's has 2, right? In the BIOS, I have the option to choose between AHCI or IDE mode. Does this apply to Intel ICH9R controller? What about the Gigabyte controller then? Is it stuck in AHCI mode?

The ideal configuration I believe consists of having my Sata Optical Drives (only 1 in my case) working under IDE mode, plugged in an Intel slot, while I have my Hard disks (only 1 in my case) plugged into gigabyte's slots to benifit from AHCI features. Personally I wouldn't mind having only 2 sata ports dedicated to my hard drives if I need to. Will never get more than 2 anyway I dont think, I will have only 1 at first.

So, am I getting all this right? Or am I completely off? I realize this may not be an easy question but I figured this would be the best place to ask it.

Hi,

Just 2 small question

1) Did we need to upadte our bios on each new version. For now everything looks find my 6600 oc's to 3.2 , my mem is good ... So did I really need to do that.

2) There is a way to configure a raid arrays on that board after the installion of windows on a single drive. I got two other sata disk at really low price and I don't want to re-install again everything.

Thanks , and sorry english is not my first language

If everything is running fine and seems to be stable you really don't have to update your bios. Its not like the OS where not updating can lead to security holes. The main reason I updated my bios is due to issues with the temperature readings I'm getting from the MB's onboard sensors. But as a general rule, I've always heard that the bios is one thing that you can leave alone if you seem to have no problems.

i updated mine to F4G. It was supposed to have better OC capabilities. Plus since this is such a young board they are still fixing the bugs.

But if everything you need is working, don't worry about it.

I just got this board and everything works great, but one of the temperatures is reading kind of high at full load. Anybody know what Temp2 in SpeedFan is for when using this mobo? Mine's reading ~55 at load.

Anyone know the difference between the different revisions? On the GBs site it only has v1.0 and v2.0... I seem to have v1.1.

Does it just come with an update bios? How do you tell which one you're on?

SilentPC Thread

I knew their was going to be a new revision. It's because I just purchased one, and everytime I buy something, they usually come out with a new model or revision a few days after

Hello fellow Gigabyte fans
I upgraded recently (see sig) and I'm really happy with this board so far.
2 Questions:
a) Will a future update allow the changing of memory timings to 1T?
b) People say the memory voltage on this board defaults to 1.8V, but in Easytune 5 it says my memory voltage is 2.1V. I'm going to overclock this weekend so I'd like to know what's correct first since my memory is rated at 2.2V.

Lastly, anyone having different CPU voltage readings in different programs? I have all the thermal bios options disabled, but in the bios it says 1.35V, in Easytune 5 it says 1.33V, and in CPU-Z it says 1.312V!! Confusing hey? I definitely have all the CPU thermal stuff disabled so it's not down to the built in CPU temp management.

One more thing... if you're thinking of buying this board GET IT. It's rock solid and stable. I strayed from Gigabyte to a high-end motherboard and it was fiddly and unstable.

Has anyone found a need to remove and lap the northbridge heatsink with thermal paste? There was at least two layman reviewers on Newegg commented on a poorly secured northbridge heatsink. It may have been paranoia or bad luck on their part. Is the northbridge HSF difficult to remove?

Mine's on secure. I'm curious how difficult it is to remove because I want to put some Arctic Silver on there and put it back on.

BTW.. couldn't wait to overclock. I'll push it further once I've put my other heatsink on but currently:
FSB = 460
CPU @ 3220Mhz
Memory @ 1105Mhz
CPU voltage @ stock (1.35V)
DDR voltage @ +.01
NB voltage @ +.01

Running Orthos stable so far. I think I'll get to 4.3Ghz in time
