I'm a bit of a newb, how do I check what bios i'm running since I can't get into the the bios at all (computer won't post) is the bios version somewhere on the box or on the motherboard itself?

I wasn't expecting a bios flash especially considering the box said the motherboard was '45nm optimized'

Hi all,
I've got a strange issue: the system below works fine with 2GB of RAM, but as soon as I add a third, it refuses to overclock--at all. If I enter setup and enable overclocking, but don't even change the frequency--that is, that I keep it at stock MHz--it will refuse to post, will reboot, and disable overclocking.

If I remove the third stick, I can go right back to my 24/7 overclock. Since I have 4 sticks, I've tried them all in various combinations, have vetted them with memtest, etc--it's not the RAM sticks themselves.

Have tried F4, F8, and F10 bioses; clear CMOS, etc.

Any clue? The RMA process will surely drive me to just get a different board, I think.

you might have a problem installing Vista b/c you have 4GB of RAM there. Some how Vista will blue screen with 4GB of RAM before updates. In your case you have 1X4GB instead of 2X2GB which you can take one stick out.

Q6600 G0
TRUE 120
1gb x 4 = 4gb Ballistix
EP35-DS3R rev 2.1 upgraded bios from f2 to f3b
8800gts 512mb
WD Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA
Samsung 20x DVD Burner SATA
Solo Case

The problem I'm having is when I get into the Vista installation and I install the ich9r drivers from my usb, the hard drive is still not recognized. I also notice when it boots that when the ich9r is scanning for devices, it only detects my dvd drive and not my hard drive. Ive read somewhere maybe this is because my hard drive has not been partitioned or formatted yet. I don't what to do so I can get my ich9r to recognize my drive. I know people have gotten to where I am but are able to load the drivers for ich9r and see a partition they can install too. Anybody with any advice?

Ah! I forgot about that little snafu issue with Vista 32 bit. That could be affecting his install. I'd give that a whirl, then once you get a patch for Vista 32 bit (don't recall what one it is, do a search for it) you should then be able to add in the additional 2Gb. I don't know if it'll see all of it, probably not due to limitations of the OS/32bit stuff. That's been discussed around here too.

This may be reaching but are there any jumpers on the HD to force it to SATA-150 mode vs SATA II 3.0Gb/sec mode? Only thing I can think of other than trying another HD in there (different maker preferably).

I'm having a problem on my GA-P35-DS3R Rev. 2.0 motherboard, with the JMicron driver for the GigaByte sata 2 driver. I wanted to enable hot-swapping so I originally had my Seagate 160GB Sata 3.0 connected to the Intel port. I enabled AHCI in the bios, but the computer fails to boot up. Windows starts, but crashes during the Windows screen. I turned that off and moved the drive to one of the purple Gigabyte ports and again enabled AHCI, and the computer boots up, but I get an error message after windows opens, and the JMicron driver shuts down. Here are the direct link to the error messages I get.

Does anyone have any insight to this problem.

My system is a GA-P35-DS3R Rev. 2.0
OS is Windows XP-Pro SP3
CPU is E6750 @3.52GHz
bios is F-11
2 GB G.skill 1066 ram at 880MHZ (at the moment)
Video is an XFX 7600GT w/256MB DDR3

Thanking you in advance,

Got a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R motherboard, on XP Pro sp2, and been running just a single SATA drive on its own for 6 months with no problems whatsoever.

However, as I was running low on space, and can't afford another SATA drive, I thought I'd plug an old IDE drive in and use that as an additional drive for data. Now, the bios recognizes it, the device manager can see it in disk drives, but it does not appear in My Computer in the hard disk drives bit.

These are the some of the bios settings if it means owt

STANDARD CMOS SETTINGS
IDE CHANNEL 0 MASTER - CD/DVD DRIVE (connected to Intel ICH9R SATAII2)
IDE CHANNEL 0 SLAVE- HARD DISK DRIVE (connected to Intel ICH9R SATAII0)

IDE CHANNEL 4 MASTER - HARD DISK DRIVE (connected to IDE1) - this is the one that's giving me problems

INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS
SATA RAID/AHCI MODE - disabled
SATA PORT 0-3 NATIVE MODE - disabled
ONBOARD SATA/IDE DEVICE - enabled
ONBOARD SATA/IDE CTRL MODE - IDE

Thanks in adavance

Is it showing up in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management?
If not, click "action" then "rescan disks".
I'm running 1 SATA & 2 IDE drives on the same board as you with 0 probs so it's got to be do-able.

Hey everyone, I just bought this board with a Q6600 and 4 GB XMS2 DHX RAM. Any idea how high I can OC the Q6600? I was just shooting for 3.2, should/can I go higher than that?

Weird problem after going into sleep mode....

So I set my computer to sleep mode overnight, and in the morning, when I wake the computer, it just spins up for a second, and shuts off. Hit the power button, spins up, shuts off.

I turn off the switch on the back of the PSU, turn it back on, computer boots up, but goes right into Windows, like from sleep. Is this a problem I can fix? Just curious.

Question about the CPU Voltage Control setting in the BIOS, i need a little more volts to my CPU so i set the value at 1.35000V from the default (i know big jump), but when i reboot and go back into the BIOS under PC Health Status, it shows that i am only pushing 1.280V? So, is that number in the MB Intelligent Tweaker section of the BIOS a maximum, or is my power supply not good enough to push the correct voltage to the CPU?
Thanks,
Chris

This mobo undervolts the CPU about that much- I set mine @ 1.475 in the BIOS to push 1.41 to the CPU.

So whatever CPU voltage you want to run, just make sure to add for the undervolting.

Yes, it can. If nothing shows up in QFlash on a FAT32 formatted drive then you may need to format the USB drive in FAT16 (the HP drive utility does this).

I have noticed the same symptoms, did you figure out the issue? I am concerned that maybe my CoolerMaster ExtremePowerDuo 600W might not be as good as the Antec Trio 650W that i have on my other Gigabyte boards... I had already tested the setup with an E6700 running at 3.33 Ghz with 2 instances of Prime95 for 12 hours - no errors. So i felt like the OC was stable...

I have an Enermax Liberty 500W, I don't think its a PSU problem... it's kind of sporadic, the computer started up just fine this morning... so I have no idea.

It has to be a Vista update, since both my machines with this board are doing the same thing when resuming from sleep! And previous to a week or so ago they went to sleep and resumed just fine...

Hi All

Got me a nice shiny Gigabyte p35c-ds3r (rev 2) last night and slapped it into my new rig, but im having a few issues..... can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Basically - i put the system together after having no luck with my previous board (a crappy ECS 650i Board), and when i switched the system on (OS disk in hand!) im just getting a boot cycle.

The graphics card isn't kicking in - not getting to the bios - no post beeps (although its a new case and although it has a speaker cable to the front header in not sure its actually got a working speaker - so i'll throw a speaker in tonight to see if i get any beeps) - nothing. The fans kick in, the system just sits there for about 20 seconds and then just shuts down and restarts again..... and again..... and again!

Now, the default ram setting on these boards is 1.8v is it not? Im using 4x1gb Geil Ultra which according to the sticker are rated at 2.1v - could this be the issue? Ive read that people have being going into the MIT settings in the bios and increasing the voltage by 0.3 to allow ram to work correctly - but my system isnt getting far enough into the boot proccess to allow me to change settings in the bios.

Could it be that im using a Q6600? Ive read on the Gigabyte site that the M/b requires bios version F3 or above if using a Go Stepping q6600 (which i am).... Obviously as i cant get the system to boot i dont know what bios version i have and dont have the ability to change it. Im guessing that as ive got a rev 2 board this isnt an issue - but i thought id throw that into the pot...

Thanks all for any advice anyone can give.

EDIT: Sorted!

Just incase anyone has the same issue - i had to take out 3 of my ram chips and up the voltage in the bios settings before i could put all 4 in.

I am still quite new to this forum. I don't know how to create a new thread in this forum. I am not cross posting. I want to ask the following question specifically about this gigabyte motherboard.
I contemplate of getting this motherboard to replace my Asus P5NE SLI. I googled and found that someone said that you cannot have both RAID hard drives and single non RAID drives on the ICH9R. I want to attach 2x300G Western Digital hard drives as RAID 0, one single Samsung 500 hard drive and 3 DVD burners on the ICH9R. Will it work? The information I got was that this is not possible because once the ICH9R was set to RAID in BIOS, windows XP will not see the single non RAID drive.
I need the Gigabyte (Jmicron) for 2x300G Maxtor as RAID 0 plus one PATA hard drive and one IDE DVD burner.
One more question - is Creative X Fi sound card compatible with this motherboard? Again my google result showed that sound will stutter with this motherboard and people cannot solve this problem.
Thank you for your help.

Hi again folks - another issue now!

obviously you can see my PC specs and components below....

im currently having a problem that after installing a load of vista updates - one of them is killing my PC.

ive gone through the system restore process and got my pc back up and running, but am update somewhere along the line was causing the system to lock up soon after boot (at the visa desktop) and was causing my LAN port to stop working.

It was happening on my LAST motherboard - infact its the reason i changed my last motherboard (an ECS 650i board) as i thought the board was having issues with my ram. Im guessing its something to do with my graphics card now as ive been told that the 8800GT doesnt like certain updates (dont know if thats true or not).

I've run memtest and a series of stress tests on the CPU, Ram, Hard disk, graphics card and they all passed with flying colours.

Has anyone had simlar issues? does anyone know which updates to avoid or if theres something to look out for with my hardware??

OK, what's the best to use on this board....4 gigs of ddr2 1066 cas 5 ram or 4 gigs ddr3 cas 9 ram? same price...trying to decide which is best to use for gaming and for this board? anyone using these ram speeds on a p35c board please speak up? how does the board overclock ddr3 ram?
memory config that is on sale right now is 2 stick of 2 gigs each...i just need to know if it makes sense or if it will be noticeable.
