phreakyzen, the "half-in half-out" box contains the JCPenney Comfort Zone pillow. That's the one we're talking about. I just found a JCPenney that has them in stock. I bought 4! They were on sale for $39.99, I opened a Credit account so they became $34.99 but my account was "pending" (fine with me) so I got to use my Amazon Visa for the purchase
This Penney's also had an Isotonic pillow in an uglier blue box. It was $5 cheaper I think but felt alot squishier than the Comfort Zone.

I'm interested to see what I think of this pillow because for a long time now I've only been comfortable with Down pillows that are mostly dead. I.E., my head basically touches the mattress.

WOOPS, edited post to show correct prices.

Wow, if the Isotonic in the Blue Box was $24.99, that's a really good deal (considering they are $59.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond). You said that it felt more squishy than the comfort zone? Egads...I wonder if the Isotonic and Comfort Zone are not exactly the same then, even though they are both Carpenter Company pillows? Personally, I prefer a little less firm and a little more squishy.

Oh, I noticed that the seller of the Cryo-Thermic pillow had a few more and put them up on eBay. Funny, someone has already bid on all three of them; someone who recently bought a Tempur Pedic pillow. A lurker of this forum, perhaps?

Yup, definitely more squishy. I was able to squish the sample part left exposed by the box with ease.
Ya know Atrac, I was fine with my dead Down pillow till you came along! Now all I think about are pillows. Oh yeah, and Morrowind.

jedibus: I can see that my obsession is catching on. Scary, isn't it? Imagine being a friend or a roommate of mine and having to listen to and see all of the pillows I bring home. There's probably going to be a movie of my life soon, "A Beautiful Pillow."

Oh, can I just say that Anandtech has a *lot* of power? I mentioned that I love my Cryo-Thermic pillow, and I just checked the auctions on eBay. They are now going for ~$30 a piece! The majority of these in the past either went for $9.95 or never got any bids. There are two things that come to mind:

1) Too bad the guy doesn't have any more after this batch; he's suddenly got a gold mine on his hands.
2) Too bad I'm not getting any kickbacks!!

I feel like I've created some kind of monster! Seriously, if the people that are bidding are from here (logic suggests that they are), I wouldn't bid much higher because you're still going to need a cover for the pillow, and that'll cost like $12.99 (if you get the nice Isotonic cover from BB&B). So $30 plus $12.99 and you're now approaching the price of what Tempur-Pedics go for on that famous auction site.

But like I said (No BS here), it's my favorite pillow of all of the ones I've tried. Note that mine came with a cover though and it's a king size...the ones he has left are standard size.

Disclaimer: I haven't named the seller, nor any other specifics. And I *really* don't get anything out of it. In fact I'm discouraging the bidding by recommending not going too much higher! Just wanted to point that out in case anyone thinks I'm pulling a fast one here. Besides I've recommended other pillows as well. Too many in fact.

After reading the post from sleepnet.com by doing a search for "foam" in their forums.
I think I will try to get a real tempur-pedic pillow on ebay. The way the foam is being describe is very different form the one I am sleeping on.
Also, I watched a infomerrcail on the tempur-pedic bed, and a baseball pitcher threw an egg on the mattress pad and it didn't break.
I know these infomerrcails might have alot of hot air, but it makes me want to try out the real thing.
You're so evil artac, now can't sleep at night knowing something alot better is out there and my head isn't on it.
Has anyone found a reliable non auction dealer for those pillow?
Maybe we can get a group anandtech referral discount?

rich123: Good find! That's definately the same perfect pillow, just the box has a picture of a Venus type lady vs. the LNT's blond lady.

Wow, that SensaFoam pillow...if it's the same squish/doughy feel as The Perfect Pillow, that'd be cool. It looks like it's thicker and has more support. Must......resist!

After sleeping on the JCPenny Comfort Zone Carpenter pillow I will be taking both of mine back. They are way too firm for me or my wife who got a neck ache from the pillow the next morning. I have tried the Tempur-Pedics at Brookestone and they are much more comfortable I guess you get what you pay for.

I bought the Comfort Zone pillow from JCP a few nights ago. It is indeed noticably firmer than my gf's Brookstone TP, but I like it. The firmness seems to agree well with me, and the height (of the low side) is just right. (Her TP is about 10 years old, so it may not be as firm as originally -- she still likes it, tho.)

Thanks for this thread -- it's improved my sleep!

Camping World shipping price seems to have gone up.

I was quoted $8.50 for ground shipping two (2) pillows.

With shipping, they are now only a few dolars less than Costo at $26.50.

Sorry... I screwed up. I got into another page somehow.

The Therolux pillows are still available for $14.99 each and $1.98 for shipping. The $1.98 shipping ends on July 25.

I Ordered 4. Someone said thatthey made good seat cushions.

Tried the Perfect Pillow from Linen & Things last night and I'm a bit dissapointed. The display felt soft enough and I really like the cover but it was too firm for me. At first I tried it with a pillow cover on but it felt like it wasn't molding quickly enough so I took it off (felt like it was pressing my head up). I kept turning on it. It seemed most comfortable for me when I lay on my side or have my face turned sideways. Face up just felt strange as I couldn't find a spot that was comfortable for me. I guess that extra skin on my neck (aka double chin) just bothers my breathing with a firm pillow like this one. Maybe I'll have better luck with a shaped pillow rather than the standard form. Oh boy ... need sleep.

I mentioned this pillow before, but it looks like HSN has a sale on them: DR-HO?S? HO FUN PILLOW for $35.50.

This page has a better description of it: Better Description.

I've never used it or even touched it. It's an interesting idea though. I just thought I'd mention it since it originally sold for $79.99 so it's probably a deal to someone.

If any brave readers/lurkers order it be sure to give us your opinion!

Just a note, folks. These pillows get more comfy over time. Try your pillow for a week or so. My isotonic has become irreplaceable. I can feel the suspension in it where before it was too firm, or at least seemed so.

I ended up with the 4" thick Queen Tempur-Pedic Pillow, because the prices were something like $15 less than the 4 1/2" ones. I'm about 5' 11 1/2" and ~180 lbs. I don't have any experience that the pillow is "not thick enough", although I admit I don't know what that would consist of - I'm certainly not anywhere near bottoming out in the center of the pillow.

Perhaps atrac or someone can comment on what the point of the thicker pillow is.

In terms of thickness, I am 6'2" 195lbs and my pillow is 4" thick (that is the thickest part). My head rests directly on the hump...I'm not sure how a slidesleeper can fit that into their neck space. If I lie on my back, the neck part fits perfectly.

A lot of people seem to bid on "extra thick" Tempur-Pedics, and honestly I don't see how they can use them. Maybe they're really big people.

(And yes, once again one of my posts sounds dirty if read slightly skewed!).

After being sucked into this thread (damn you Atrac), I went shopping for a mattress pad on Ebay. I found Mark's 1/2 price bedding deals on Ebay and noticed he was local to my area (Orlando). I contacted him via email and asked about a store. Sure'nough he had a store about 7 miles from me. I went today and checked out his 3" 4lb density queen size pad that he sells on Ebay for $140. After trying it out and talking with Mark I was pretty impressed with it so I decided to buy it. Just then Mark asked me if I knew anything about networks, I said, "sure do... I'm a computer nerd". He was having problems getting two machines talking... in about 3 minutes I had them talking and sharing files like he wanted. He then turned to me and said, "thanks you just earned a free mattress pad". Cha-Ching!!

While I was there I noticed he had pillows... he actually gives you a pillow with the pad when you buy on Ebay. The pillows sell for about $20 I think and were pretty nice. Not nearly as heavy or dense as the Tempur ones though. The pad is very nice... I've been trying it out all evening and I'm looking forward to sleeping on it tonight. I talked with him while we loaded up the pad in my car about Ebay and stuff. He's a young guy who found a nice niche on Ebay and treats people pretty well. Anyone looking for a nice pad should certainly check out his ebay sales or order from him at www.memoryfoam.net
