Some people just crack me up..........."not bad but could be better."...........whats that all about? Have you found another pillow that is "better" than that one for $14.99?..........with $1.00 for shipping? I think its reasonable to expect a $60 pillow to be better than a $14.99 pillow..........but, I really do wonder if two of the $14.99 pillows are equal in performance to the $60 pillow. I dont know because I could not believe how well two of these pillows work together for $31, so, I just saved myself some dough, and kept them and didnt give the more expensive pillow a thought.

If you have found a better visco-elastic pillow for $15.99 including shipping, please let us know so that we can but a few hundred of them!!

Stacking 2 pillows together does not give you 1 better pillow, it will only make it higher. You cannot stack two 3 lb density pads and get 4 lb density. You can never get the 4 lb density feel no matter how much 3 lb you stack. It doesn't work that way.

The camping world is 3 lb density material. It is not as good as the 4 lb material.

I have 2 of the camping world pillows, and the 3 lb density mattress pad, and they do not come close to the tempur-pedic material after trying it out at a mattress store.
Now I understand why some say that they will only make good seat cushions.

The Camping World pillow is not a deal that will end all of pillow deals! (i always wanted to say that)

I agree with Radio... I had two egg crates on my bed before... and the don't compare to the 4lb 3" pad on there now. Bite the bullet and pay for the extra good stuff, you'll spend 30%+ of your life in your bed... don't skimp

SpotDancer--I will be looking for more reports from you about the mattress pads. I'm about your ht/wt, and I know what you mean about waking up and having sore spots on your hips.

For those of you that have tried several pillows, and have some you aren't going to use, and especially if you have lower back pain or neck pain when you drive, you might consider using them behind your back or neck while driving. I don't suppose you'd have to be too innovative to figure out how to use velcro straps to secure them. It sure helps my back to have one behind my lower back when I drive.

As I have always made it my business to say............."Spend your hard-earned cash in any way you see fit - its your hard-earned cash!!"

My whole point in touting two less expensive visco-elastic pillows for half the price of one of the more expensive ones is this: If you try two of the less expensive pillows BY SLEEPING ON THEM, and conclude that you got a great night's sleep without any sore spots..........why go out and spend $60 for one pillow? I have never said that the less expensive pillow is better than the expensive one - they are not. I realize that there are diminishing returns when you keep adding pillows one atop the other, and I also realize you cant make a four lb. density pillow out of two 3 lb. density pillows. But, if someone is saying that putting two pillows together doesnt enhance the effect one gets from one pillow, I say you are talking through your hat, i.e. you dont know what you are talking about.

Last night I slept on one of the Camping World's 1 1/2" visco-elastic mattress pads together with a 2" antimicrobial some-other-type-of-foam mattress pad, and all I can say is: "Heaven, I'm in Heaven!" And I only spent $65 for both of them. Again, I am 5'10" and weigh 190 lbs. Am I saying that someone who wants to pay $200 for a single mattress pad should not? No, I am not saying that. Go ahead, its your hard-earned cash. I am thrilled that I got the kind of sleep (without the usual sore spots) I want from a product I bought, and spent.........$135 LESS!!!!! This is all that I am saying. Some of us can get the same riding experience from a $35,000 Lexus as we can from an $80,000 Mercedes which would make us think.........why spend an additional $45,000? Of course, some of us just cannot think about driving anything but a Mercedes........no matter what the cost. It all boils down to how you want to spend your hard-earned cash!!!

I have no quarrel with anyone's choice of pillows, mattress pads, etc.........the one and only thing I am saying is: if two of the less expensive pillows, mattress pads, or whaterver - give you the kind of relief from back pain, neck pain, sore spots, and improves your sleep also - WHY SPEND MORE MONEY?? Of course, I aint you and probably dont have the bank that some of you have, but I am all done with adding anything more to this thread, except my final conclusions - WHICH HAVE BEEN MADE BY SLEEPING ON THEM!!!

My final conclusions:

1. Buy two visco-elastic pillows from Camping World for $30.98 shipped. Put them together and see if two doesnt give you a great nights' sleep for the price of one of the more expensive ones - for half the price. Two together were a bit much for me, so I use one as a fantastic seat pad, and one in combination with a Sobakawa pillow to sleep on. Works great for me. Savings: Approximately $30 over ONE of the other type pillows.

2. Buy one 1 1/2" visco-elastic mattress pad from Camping World and one 2" Antimicrobial foam mattress pad from Camping World, put them together with the visco-elastic mattress pad on top, and get ready for feeling like you are suspended in air while sleeping and waking up with no sore spots. Both of these mattress pads were delivered for $65. Savings over ONE of the other mattress pads: Approximately $135.

Pleasant dreams everyone........no matter from whom you decide to buy pillows, mattress covers, etc. and how much money you find yourself spending..........or, not spending!! As always, its all up to you!!

Well I kinda forgot about replying to my message on the Costco pillow review. Well here goes:

I have not tried the other pillows, but I think that the Costco pillow is a fairly low density pillow, it is firm, but the handprint will only show for a few seconds when the pillow is pushed on. I like the pillow and find that the thickness is good for a guy my size 6' 200+# provides good support and I seem to sleep well on it. I would try it if you are interested in these pillows the price is right and Costco's return policy is the best (thats why I got it in the first place). I would love to get one to Atrac so he can compare it to the rest, may I recomend that you get one online Atrac??

Well I hope that helped some, if you want more of a review just say so, hopefully I will have seen a few more pillows to compare if I remember to take a look at some the next time I am in the mall.

i got a tempur-pedic 5" XL one from ebay and it's good so far. i'm only 5'7 and 140 but i found it just right for me. the 4" i tried was a bit low for me, but i am a side sleeper so you should take that into consideration. i did go to BB&B to try out the Isotonic mattress pads and they were really really comfy. i think i'm going to get one of those next...

does anyone have any recommendation as to what kind of pads are good on Ebay besides the recommendations we have already received?

edit:

Atrac: this is a GREAT post. Thanks for all your time and efforts!! i read over the posts again and i saw in one post in which you said that JC Penny will start carrying pads starting at 79.99(?) for a queen size. have you confirmed this at any of their stores? their website just shows the normal isotonic brand pads, which they sell for the same price as BB&B.

also, has anyone tried to get another cover for the Tempur-Pedic pillows? i haven't seen one for sale anywhere. Thanks!

Could someone provide the "CliffsNotes" version of this thread. I'd like a good pillow but I got lost trying to scan all these answers. I hate the mall and if a good pillow is online please let me know where...thanks!!!!

Hey I agree with XRdirtHead. I too would like one of these great pillowas but I have a very short attention span. Please make a list of the "do's" with prices and a list of "dont's". Sorry for being so lazy...but this is to much!!!

Actually was there a consensus as to which one should be purchased at a retail store? Linen's and Things, Bed Bat & Beyond or Sam's would be cool.

Jamestl: I tried JC Penny pad last week (same material as the pillow under JC Penny brand, regular price is $89.99 for queen, two weeks ago on sale for $69.99 with free cover). It's nice for the price, but it's only 1.5 " thick at thickest point. After researching some options, I got one 3" 4 pound from ebay for $165. I am really glad for the extra money I paid for that extra thickness, I have the best sleep for a long time.

Yesterday I saw at Cosco (NJ), there is NovaForm pad 2" queen size for $126.xx with free cover. I think that also is pretty good price .

Wow, this thread is still packing a punch! Hopefully I'm not skipping any questions, so here goes:

Jamestl: Apparently JCPenny is only selling the Queen size pad. It's $89.99 regular price. I looked at it again today. It's that "eggcrate" design. Personally I prefer the slab without the grooves, so I would avoid it. Tempur Pedic pillow replacement covers are sold at Brookstone. They are like $20.00. I'd go with the Istotonic Pillow replacement covers sold at Bed Bath & Beyond for $12.99. They are white, but still nice.

In terms of a cliff's notes version of this thread, I've tried to do so several times. But so many people seem to like these pillows that my Reader's Digest versions keep getting buried. Scroll back a page and you should be able to find my "Top 7 Pillow List."

All in all though, I still have to say that everyone has their own opinion. You have to find the best pillow yourself by actually trying it out. Even I am guilty! If you look at my posts (if you dare), you'll see that I've recommended "The Perfect Pillow" and the "JCPenny Comfort Zone Pillow," and then decided I didn't like them for being too soft or too firm. It takes about a week to get the full effect...so let's really work those store return policies!

thanks for the heads up on the pad. is it still made from viscoelastic foam or just regular foam? also, i got the XL tempur pillow so the pillow cases from isotonic pillows won't fit... thanks for all your info. this is an awesome thread!

Interesting thread.

I've had a Tempur-pedic pillow from Brookstone for several years. It cost $150 when I bought it. It was the largest size they sold back then although it's not a huge pillow. This pillow is the best pillow I've ever had. I used to get a sore neck quite often while sleeping and I never do now if I use this pillow.

I want a Temper-pedic mattress now. I just wish I could find a better deal than Brookstone or the Tempurpedic website which charges the same price but doesn't charge tax to my state(my parents bought one of their King sized mattresses recently). When I get the money scraped together I will get one... I just wish someplace discounted the real thing.

Anyway, these pillows are worth the extra dough and this is coming from a guy who doesn't like to waste money.

Well, after much agonizing I sprung for a 3", 4-lb. density queen-size mattress pad from one of the sellers on ebay. Arrived yesterday. Weighs a ton. Slept on it last night. I loved it. My wife positively hated it. In the interest of maintaining marital bliss, I will have to let it go. *sniff* Watch for it on ebay. (stops typing and sobs uncontrollably)

Save yourself the trouble ktg and sell it to someone here. Anyone not into Fleabay but likes the price can go to MemoryFoam.net and save the bid process.

Atrac, thanks for the info. I got the truely last "Cryo-Thermic Pillow" from the guy on E-E-bay. Someone bid on it in June and never sent the money, so he got tired of waiting. I got a "Support II Systems" made by CHS gold core (going by what is says on plastic bag). It also came with a light blue case. Too bad we can't get more, I would get three.
Was there ever an answer to the best bed pad, and where to get it? From what I know so far is, the one from Camping World (or camping something). I don't know if a 1 1/2 pad will do a 200+ blob like me.
I forget who it was selling their queen size pad because the wife did not like it. Let's see.....better night's sleep with new pad, wife leaves giving you more room to bed hog, don't have to hear her snore....I don't see the down side of that. It would be worth it's weight in gold to guys like me.

Wow, man.........you better get some sleep or, better yet, some medication for your attention deficit disorder...........the answer to your question about who should sell their mattress pad because of the wife etc. etc. is about two posts above yours!!

All this pillow needs, is some sort of optional attachment to collect your girlfriend's drool.

How well does this foam collect drool? I don't enjoy it when my girlfriend rests with her head on my chest when we sleep because I seem to be dreaming about swimming in my sleep since she appears to be determined to digest me with her saliva I think. I need to buy her a pillow that's so comfortable, she'll choose it over my chest. I'm serious about the drool question though.. would this pillow withstand the drool machine that she is?

thx

The novaform is exactly the same as the costco one except looks like the cover a little bit different. Costco one is slightly cheaper
