From reading through the entire thread, I think I'm going to buy from either foambymail or mark's 1/2 price bedding.

foambymail eBay deal:
3" 5 lb. sensus full size foam top
5" 2.8 lb high density full size foam base
cover with zipper

= $275 + $75 shipping = $350 total for an 8" tall mattress

reigle3 (mark's) eBay deal:
4" 5 lb. sensus full size foam top
3" talatech talalay latex base
cover with zipper

= $375 + $50 shipping = $425 total for a 7" tall mattress

My only concern is, how is the heat transmission on these Sensus foam tops since I've heard a lot of bad things about the Tempur-Pedic mattresses heating up your body? And another question for the people that have owned these for awhile now, is it still as firm as when you bought it?

And one last money saving option I'm considering is buying a JC Penny bottom and a Sensus top:

5" Thick Firm Support Foam Topper-Full 52x73" from JC penny = $71. 99 + $6.84 shipping = $89.78
2" 5 lb. sensus full size top from mark's = $85.80 + $25 = $110.80

= $200.58 total for a 7" mattress

This is without a cover though. Mark sells one but its $89 which I think is way too much for just a cover.

I just bought a 7" Queen mattress kit from Mark's 1/2 Price Bedding on eBay for $510 shipped.

4" 5 lb Sensus memory foam topper
3" Talalay latex base
terry cover
= $460 + $50 shipping = $510

I considered the polyurethane base from JcPenney...but I hear it's not anywhere near as good as the latex. And having a 4" Sensus topper should be very comfortable. I'm looking forward to getting my new mattress

and i suggest you get the terrycloth mattress kit cover, it holds the 5"jc and the 4"sensus together so its 1 'mattress' instead of 2. it also keeps the 2 foams from sliding around and makes it a lot easier to carry the foam and move it around the house if need be.s
I'm thinking about doing the same thing as you did and I just have a couple of questions...how much did JC Penny charge for shipping? did you get the matress kit cover for free? or did they just give you the cover that only fits over the sensus pad?
JC Penny charged me $7.95 shipping, but I was lucky enough to get a 15% off code so even after shipping and tax, i saved a few bucks
No, I paid for the terrycloth mattress cover. Its worth the extra $$$ just cuz it wraps up all the layers of foam into one regular sized 'mattress'. it makes moving it around sooooooooo much easier.
they did give me a free Quiltflex topper tho

Has anyone found another low cost source for the JC Penny type 5" polyurethane foam cores? I want one in California King size, but JC Penny carries only Eastern King size.

I noticed his ebay store seems to be quite a bit cheaper than gonig to memoryfoam.com. Also to those of you that have ordered one of his beds. I was wondering what you think of it after having the bed for awhile.

Hi everyone, read at least 1/2 of this thread already and think I have a good idea of what to get. Thanks for all the great information!!

I too, am looking for a memory foam mattress. Considering the Tempur-Pedic or an alternative, cheaper brand. I was wondering if anyone else has tried the Versailles from abed.com? Their comparison with Tempur-Pedic looks very competitive. Thanks.

How does tempur-pedic neck pillow compare with millennium?
Millennium said it's for side-sleeper, but can you use for for, uh, back-sleeper?
I don't quite get what they mean in their dimension 20 x 12 x 2.5-4.5(?).

From reading this thread, the best place for toppers is either foambymail.com or memoryfoam.com. Both also have ebay stores, but I forgot their aliases. memoryfoam.com has very good info and descriptions on their products.

Mark's alias for ebay is Reigle3 I believe. Has anyone ordered one of the latex/memory foam combo beds?

Just picked up "a" queen size memfoam pad from JC Penny two days ago. It is a 1.5" pad and on sale for around $100 in-store. It's the JC Penny brand. Anyhow, I opened the factory sealed box and inside were TWO PADS. So I got, essentially, 3" queen size memfoam pad for $100. Not sure how long the sale lasts (it was normally $149) and whether or not there's supposed to be two pads in a box...but thought I'd share with you all.

Walmart 6" memory foam for Queen size beds - $170. It's by the furniture/bookcase section.

Anyone know how good this memory foam is?

Also, Walmart Memory Foam neck pillow $39

EDIT:
ok, i bought it and it SUCKS!

it's 4.5" of regular foam, and 1.5" of memory foam on top.

it doesnt say the density of the memory foam. How do i calculate it?

OKay, after much reading, (this is THE biggest thread i've ever gone through), I thought i'd mention that Sharperimage website is offering 1/2 off on their memory foam pillows with the purchase of any other item. Also, I found a link on f**wallet.com that had a coupon for $20 of a $60 purchase. So right now, i've got a mini travel pillow, a standard pillow, and a hummer flashlight in my cart, and the total comes out to $69 dollars. I'm not sure if i'm going to pull the trigger or not, i'm a pretty sound sleeper, but recently had heart surgery and sleeping is painfull sometimes since i'm recuperating. But it seems like a pretty good deal and Atrac listed the Sharper Image pillow as being his third choice of pillows, i believe, although, he did mention that after 10 months of sleeping on it, it doesn't retain it's shape as much? (Hope my memory is serving me right). Anyhow, may the good sleeping be yours, everyone who's touched this thread!

here is MY summary,

IMHO

you pay for what you get. brandname seems to be more comfortable to me. the ones sold by brookstone, sharperimage called tempur-pedic ones are the best. also the most expensive.
you might save a buck or two by shopping around for other no-name brand, but when you have them side by side, I CAN tell the difference.

time WILL destroy these material (especially the tempur-pedic ones). they lose firmness, thickness, etc.

bottomline, you pay for what you get, a novelty item. if you got the dough to spend, go for it. just don't expect it to last you forever (almost common sense, nothing lasts forever)

I have bought different kinds, brands, and used them for over 3 years now. they all start to deteriate. but I can only honestly say that I enjoyed the tempur-pedic ones the most.

I have been visiting this amazingly long thread several times since about 2 years ago, just get around to finishing it (needed a lot of breaks and naps do so since it's such a "sleepy subject").

Just one thought - if leaving memory foam pillow in a (hot) car causes the foam to loose its much sought-after quality in about 1 year, then it's safe to guess that electric blanket or an overly warm body sleeping on these foam would probably cause it to fail prematurely as well.

I've just purchased a 5" Extra Firm Foam base from JC Penney (with a 20% off code). I went to check eBay for Mark's 1/2 Price Bedding (reigle3), and there are no auctions from him. That seems strange. What would be the best alternative for a topper?

In Sept, I got the 3 inch topper from Overstock.com and it is still $129.99 plus
$2.95 for shipping of entire order (I think the shipping was free when I got it).
I wanted to be sure of a good fit on my queen bed, so I ordered the Cal-King and
used a long box cutter, scissors, a metal straight edge and a piece of paneling under
to trim off the extra. That gave me a long 12 inch wide piece for experimenting
in pillows. So far, it is great. They also have the 2 inch topper for $79.99.

Can I call this post into question: "different kinds, brands, and used them for over 3 years now"
How many beds do you sleep in??

Anyway... is there anyone visiting this thread who has purchased one of the no-name brands? How's it lasting? Still as good? I'd be quite happy if I got 5 years use out of one of these.
