I have two questions I'm hoping you guys can help me with.

1. Do I need a boxspring? Can I just put a 3/4" piece of wood over a bedframe and then get 5" foam plus 4" memory foam and put it on top? I don't really know what the purpose of a boxspring is other than to raise the bed. Right now I have a frame and that's it so I don't want to bother with getting a boxspring if I don't need it.

2. Has anyone had any experience with any of the sellers of matresses on ebay? I saw some selling a matress with 5" of foam plus 4" of memory foam and others selling it with 6" of latex plus 4" of memory foam. I was thinking of buying one of these premade ones but I don't see many reviews from people who have gotten them.

Thanks in advance guys!

I don't know anything about the foam mattresses, but if you are interested in a "conventional" mattress, I think I can counsel you. I bought a bed second hand a number of years ago (full). The mattress, I guess, wasn't so hot. After a year or two, it needed replacing. I went to a large store that didn't specialize in bedding and asked a bunch of questions. What I determined was that it's money well spent if you get a quality mattress. You don't have to get the top of the line mattress to get that. I bought one of their mattresses made by one of the major mattress makers that specializes in back-friendly products. There was a big price difference between what I got and the top of the line ones but the spring system was the same, I was told. I rotate the mattress periodically. There are 4 orientations and I try to use them equally. I've had this mattress for nearly 20 years and it's still holding up really well. I sense no fundamental structural deterioration whatsoever and it looks great. I sleep well on it, my back problems largely resolved since taking up appropriate exercises and stretching.

Hey Guys,

Check out eCost - I ordered the foam memory pillow standard size for $16.79 and a Queen 3-in foam memory matterss for $103, and then there is a $15 Mail-in Rebate! Free shipping too! Rebates go up to $75 for a $300 purchase.

Does this deserve a thread post of it's own?

1. No boxspring, or plywood sheet over your existing boxspring or slats.

2. Instead of pre-made, if you build one yourself (by using the info in this thread) you can add layers if what you start with is too firm, or not thick enough. I have just ordered 4" of Omalon for the base, and 3" of Sensus for the top layer. If I find this combo too firm, I will add another inch or two of the cheapest foam I can find between the base and top.

So if I don't have a boxspring I just put the plywood over the bedframe and put the mattress on top of the plywood? If I get a boxspring can't I just put the mattress on top without the wood?

first question: yes.
second question: i suggest the plywood... thats what i do and when the wood slips a bit, i can tell the difference. plywood helps a lot.

If you already have a boxspring go ahead and try it that way, then try it with the plywood, and see which way you like it. However, all of these foam mattresses, whether they be commercial or home-made, have no need for a boxspring.

I've been using one pillow for a number of years and, of course, I'm quite used to it. I just got an email today from Overstock.com saying my NASA foam pillow has shipped (5 days later, ). Well my current pillow isn't feathers. I don't know what it is. It's fairly thin and firm, at least in the sense of holding and wanting very much to return to its shape. Thicker pillows have usually bothered me, forcing a kink in my neck. My current pillow leaves my neck in a pretty much neutral position (almost no bend). That's my thinking. I used to have neck problems, so preferred this pillow. Haven't had those neck problems in a long time but the last two months a different neck problem has happened and I'm hoping this foam pillow will help.

Sharper Image has a sale going on for their Heat-Sensitive Foam Neck Support Pillow They're 50% off after purchasing something else in the store. One thing that confused me was when I called the store up the person I talked to made it sound like I didn't have to buy soemthing else to get the 50%.

Anyway, I think it's a good deal for a High Density Foam Pillow.

Do I need a single sheet of 3/4" wood directly over the frame or can I cut it in half (lengthwise) so it's easier to transport. Without a boxspring the bed will just be low but the sheet of wood is all I need for support?

I used to roll around alot, but now without the annoying pressure points, I sleep very well, rarely move, and rarely wakeup.

hm.. 3" 4lb and and 2" 5lb both $80 (twin size).

which one is better to get?

I haven't tried a 2"x 5lb but the 3"x 4lb sure is cozy! Soft but not too soft - it is a great buffer between the somewhat hard mattress below (which mine is). A harder yet thinner 2" topper does not sound nearly as attractive to me.

I've only ordered from sleepwarehouse.com once, but everything definitely went well and I'm loving the mattress topper 3 months later.

Got my pillow from overstock.com today.
It's pretty nice. It is very comfortable when laying on either my back or my side.

Also it doesn't have a very strong odor, something that alot of them fresh out of the box have. (Espeically the cheaper ones)

One question though. The pillow literally came in a box. Nothing else beyond a packing slip.

Is there any way to clean these pillows? obviously, I do not need it cleaned yet, but was curious how it can be cleaned for future reference.

Thanks,
Dave

I got mine today, too. Seems quite comfortable. I'll have a much better idea after a night's sleep on it. Yes, I didn't notice any odor at all, although I wasn't sniffing it. I do have a very sensitive nose, and I'd have noticed anything beyond a very mild odor. The pillow is in a zip-up cotton cover and looking at it, it's a foam outer portion, can't tell what's inside. The tag says:

ALL NEW MATERIALS CONSISTING OF 100% POLYURETHANE FOAM.

Manufactured by NO-SAG, with an address in West Chicago.

Dave, I'd think it wouldn't need cleaning anytime soon, assuming you keep it in a pillow case which is over it's own zipped up case. My strategy will be to keep it clean. I wouldn't want to try cleaning it with water. Getting it dry would be tough.

Yeah, the only way I'd try to clean it would be in a sink with liquid soap, then rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, wring/press, wring/press, wring/press, wring/press, wrap in beach towel and do a jig on it for a good 5 minutes (with clean sheet plastic underneath it), turn over and repeat, then hang out to dry in the sun on a really hot, clear, windy and dry day, early in the day. By evening it should be clean and dry.

I slept on it last night for the first time and was quite pleased. It seemed most excellent. This is the first memory foam pillow experience for me, mind you. However, my head seemed to be at the right angle all the time and I didn't have to do any funny scrunching stuff, pillow movement or anything like that. Got a good night's sleep. I'm hoping the neck problems I've had for a couple of months now will resolve.

I'm not sure how I will like this is really warm weather, though. I wonder if it will make me feel too hot. Guess you can always turn it over.

These pillows take a short "getting used to it" time but I take my pillow whenever I travel now if at all possible. Still thankful for Atrac starting this thread.

and, oh

This is the thread that never ends, just goes on and on my friends......

Stumbled onto this forum a few days ago and have been spending lots of time reading through the thread (thank goodness for the search feature!).

I purchased two King Sensus 5lb Pillows on Ebay for $67 shipped. This is my first experience with Sensus. Previously I've used the Beautyrest and Walmart ones.

My question is, how do you know if the Sensus you get is the real deal? I heard there are 4lb Sensus as well. Is the pink color the only distinguishing characteristic?

So far I've slept two nights on it and I like it. But it doesn't feel like the standard memory foam - haven't been able to hold an imprint for more than half a second. Wonder if I got a defective pillow?

Any thoughts from the experienced Sensus users? How's the quality now after using it for several months/a year?

What BUSH really meant:
"The American people are not intelligent enough nor do they have the fine training required to understand what is best for the country. We had to get involved in an illegal war and we needed to lie about the reasons because we have the power to take what is to our advantage. That's why a hidden group has seized power and is wielding it in our interests. Trust me, you are too dumb to understand."

god i hope that's a real quote. if it is, i'm using it EVERYWHERE!!!

also, i saw 2 for 1 pillows on tele and now i can't find the web site. does anyone know it or even if these are cr*p pillows? i'm sorry, i caught the tail of the advert and i don't know the name of the pillow. just hoping to jog some memories...
