I have the same setup, but with 7" total. 2" of memory foam and the 5" firm polyurethane from JC Penny. The mattress pad comes with the Isotonic brand 2" memory foam from Penny's (if they still sell it) but there is no mattress pad with the 5" topper. Coupons may be around for free shipping, they have them all the time. I find the polyurethane too firm to sleep on by itself, and that's why I added the memory foam. I just recently put the plywood on the boxspring, and I like it's better that way. I don't think it is necessary to have 4" of memory foam on the 5" of polyurethane. Also, my girlfriend thinks 7" is fine also, I just hope see never finds out what 9" feels like!

So, here's a post about the mattresses. My parents bought a king Tempurpedic, and think it's the bomb. So, when it came time to replace my mattress, I was curious what to get.

We finally decided on a mattress from www.memoryfoamsource.com. Not only are they less than half the price of Tempurpedic, they seem to be better. I like the page at "Compare to Tempurpedic". It shows you some of the specifics about the foam (like 5.3 lb density) and such.

So, I got my bed, and have been sleeping on it for about 2 weeks. One thing I like about this particular bed is that it's more like a mattress. More "traditional mattress look" than a Tempurpedic, which tends to just look like a slab of foam.

Nope, I don't work for the company, or wanna praise them too much. Just my experience, and what I've found in the last month.

Now, to use a mattress pad, or not to use? MemoryFoamSource's FAQ says no. Common sense makes me wonder if I just wanna help keep the mattress clean...

I have got the King Size Sleep Comfort 400 from memory foam source. It was great the first six months and now it totally sucks. I wake up with a back ache every morning.

Just a quick word that Mark is offering 10% off for the month of May at http://memoryfoam.com

I've had my eyes on a 4" 5.3lb Sensus Topper for over a year, tempted to jump on board.

Any reviews on the "Reflex" foam that they're selling?

Well, hmph, not sure whether or not I should just do the fombymail thing on ebay. The 4" 5.3lb Sensus Toppers are $159 (+ $33 shipping).

From the looks of it (unless I'm reading things wrong), the same thing is currently $285 (-10%) at memoryfoam.com.

oh, and for those that do read this thread to learn about memory foam:

ive been a little busy lately and haven't had time to write up my review... so here's a quick rundown on how things are going.

so far im very happy with the purchase. i haven't had a chance to go out and buy plywood to put between the 5" jcpenny foam and the boxspring, but even without it the bed is VERY nice. i used to stay up til 4am just cuz my old mattress was so awful, but now i try to be in bed by 12 at the latest. most nights im in bed @ 9 and i watch a dvd. best purchase ive made in a long time.

and i suggest you get the terrycloth mattress kit cover, it holds the 5"jc and the 4"sensus together so its 1 'mattress' instead of 2. it also keeps the 2 foams from sliding around and makes it a lot easier to carry the foam and move it around the house if need be.

if i get more time, i might write up a better 'review', but for now that'll have to do

I'm thinking about doing the same thing as you did and I just have a couple of questions...how much did JC Penny charge for shipping? did you get the matress kit cover for free? or did they just give you the cover that only fits over the sensus pad?
JC Penny charged me $7.95 shipping, but I was lucky enough to get a 15% off code so even after shipping and tax, i saved a few bucks
No, I paid for the terrycloth mattress cover. Its worth the extra $$$ just cuz it wraps up all the layers of foam into one regular sized 'mattress'. it makes moving it around sooooooooo much easier.
they did give me a free Quiltflex topper tho

Ok, I want to buy a new Memory foam mattress. However, after reading and browsing most of this thread I am much more knowledgable, but no closer to a decision. There is lots of conflicting information regarding life of product, firmness, etc. Is there anyplace out there that can give an objective comparison about the different products and the pluses and minuses about them. I've looked at sensus, tempur-pedic and carpenter. Near as I can tell each has some good and bad things about their product. Some posts say the mattresses will last 10 years, others say that after six months there will be compression.

My brain hurts! Help!

Can't wait for the summary to come out!

So, the sense I get is that Mark's (either through the ebay store or memoryfoam.com) has good service and good prices. Does anyone have experience with The Complete Sleep Shop on Ebay? They have memory foam pads "Made with 5LB Sensus Memory Foam" for about $30 less than Mark's, but it's unclear whether the pads are the same. It seems like the complete sleep shop's might be not as good quality/made from scraps of Sensus foam since it says "made with" instead of advertising it as "sensus foam". Ok, so it's not very clear what I'm asking. but essientally, it seems like Mark's sells the real Sensus memory foam pads, whereas complete sleep store sells memor foam pads made of sensus material (which may or may not be prepackaged pads). If anyone understands what I'm asking and has insight/experience, i'd grealy appreaciate some advice. thanks!

Heh come to think of it, I probably never thought my down pillows were all that great because I was always too lazy to fluff them, so they ended up being squashed pancakes after a while...lol

Still, even as crappy pancakes they were better than the cheap ones I've been using at college (kept forgetting to bring the novaform I bought up to college with me...I am t3h idiot)

I need to buy a new set of mattress and am looking at these memory foams.

Any significant differences between using a 4" sensus foam on top of 5" latex vs. 4" sensus on top of 5" polyurethane from jcpenney's? What's the best deal so far?

Hey, I'm sure this has been covered but I can't find a way to search the thread. Has anyone seen that late-night infomercial on the "Contour Cloud" memory foam pillow for only $20? I was wondering if it was any good, for $20 bucks it seems like you can't lose, but I could find no reviews on epinions to see if it is trash. If this has been covered, please forgive me

well, i haven't done anything w/ the summary since my last post cuz ive started working again and don't have the time (and im REALLY tired at the end of the day after shoveling 11+ tons of steaming hot asphalt in 85 degree weather). so i really don't kno when I'll get around to finishing my thread summary. plus nobody wanted to help me w/ it, so i guess you people either don't mind reading the 1090 posts in this thread, or most of you have kept up w/ it and don't need a summarized version. maybe later in the summer ill get around to finishing it up.

Happy Birthday to my thread! I can't believe this has been going on for two years now. It's pretty frightening actually.

Unfortunately I just haven't had the time to keep it up with summaries, etc. But it's good to see that other people are carrying it on for me.

Actually I'd like to add that there is a good deal going on now for Memory Foam Pillows here. I have not been able to try one out first hand, but at the price of $19.99 for any size with free shipping and no tax in most states, why not? (Thanks to ltm from a fat thread for this tip).

The pictures make me think these are a clone of The Sharper Image memory foam pillows, but I won't know for sure until mine arrives.

I think this sale ends Monday, so if you're going to get one, now would be a good time.

Thanks to everyone for keeping a thread that I was almost certain would "fade quietly into the night" going and going and going...

I just ordered 2 queen size pillows from Abed. I will let everyone know if they were worth it. I just purchase a mattress form a local dealer that has 3 layers. The top layer is Senus foam (5.3 lb). Total thickness of the mattress is 9.5 inches. I will let everone know how this works for my wife and me.

here is more info on these pillows .Memory Foam Contour / Cervical Pillow
The unique shape of our memory foam contour pillow helps keep your neck and head in alignment with your spine, allowing you to rest in a 'neutral' position with reduced pressure-reduced pressure means less tossing and turning during the night. With better alignment of the breathing passage, the contour bed pillow also helps to reduce the likelihood of snoring!

Our Memory Foam (originally created for NASA) bed pillow is heat sensitive and conforms to provide customized comfort and the support you need to rest comfortably throughout the night whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach.

I was a die-hard Tempurpedic fan, with the emphasis on "WAS"- we have had their mattress and pillows for several years now. My hubbie gave up on the pillow a long time ago because of softening, but truthfully I still find mine comfortable. The bed is a different story. Count on the bed lasting for about 4 years only! My husband and I are both thin, and his side started softening after 4 years. It is now 4 1/2 years later, and while my side is not as soft as his, it is catching up quickly, and we both wake up with backaches. The company is cute too- their warranty requires a .6 inch depression, but won't cover extreme softening so as to make the mattress no longer supportive. When you press it with your hand it even has a cellophany-type noise. The company has been non-responsive. If you really search online, a lot of people have had similar complaints. I think a mattress that costs in excess of $2000 for a king size should have a life span for more than 4 1/2 years. Avoid an expensive mistake...while it retains its firmness, it feels wonderful, but suffice it to say I am replacing it with another brand mattress. All of the memory foam suffers from similar limitations as far as I could ascertain talking to salespeople and from my research.:disgust::frown::|
