Is there any sloshing noise if the wife decides to roll over or otherwise shake the bed up? I'd be hitting the restroom 10 times a night if it does.

Heheh, memory foam.....

Try water pillows!!!!

Much better fit to your head/shoulders, imho.

Everything moves out of the way easy, no resistance like memory foam, yes, I know memory foam "shapes" but there is still a good amount of resistance. And the water adjusts instantly.

The one I have is called Chiroflow Waterbase pillow, and was recommended by a therapist and neurosurgeon, so I sprang 37 bux.

You adjust the amount of water in it for the amout of firmness. It has a nice thick layer of DuPont padding around the water bladder. The water bladder is enclosed in a thermal blanket so you don't notice the temperature of the water inside.

This one is clinically proven to reduce pain and improve quality of sleep.

bwahahaha...memory foam....

I looked into this pillow and found it here for $29.95 plus $6.35 shipping:

Water Pillow

They do take coupons but it has to be one from what they refer to as a "Smart Sense" flyer coupon. Any ideas...?

Use ordinary tap water. No chemical additives are required.

I wonder how often you have to change the water? I'm sure it may require cleaning at some point as well. I'm surprised they can't fill it with some kind of runny goo instead of water.

Well, I finally broke down and purchased two of the Sharper Image pillows while they were still on sale for half price. Hopefully I should get them by next week. I didn't have much luck with the other memory foam pillows I've tried, but having heard good things about the SI ones, I figured I'd give it a try for a few nights. I guess if it sucks I can always return it, right? I'll let you guys know how they go.

No sloshing in the pillow at all. When you fill it, you remove the air, so you don't hear sloshing at all.

I picked up one of those $17.99 Novaform visco elastic mattress pads from boscovs.com, just because it was so cheap. It's so pitiful that you can't even tell that it is even there.

I got into these pillows after reading this thread about 10 months. Noticed that feedbacks are slowing donw though. Guess those people who have something to say already said it. Those who have not probably never will.

Anyway,I got the chance to try out 5 different pillows. In terms of quality, the Tempupedic is probably the best. Howver, it's too rich for my blood. For the most "bang for the buck", I would give it Costco's Novafoam at $24+tax. They even throw in an extra pillow case.

The best deal so far is the Sharper Image one at 50% off at $35. I was able to get a in-store $20 off $100 coupon. My final cost for 3 pillows was $31 each. The SI quality is close to the Tempupedic. However, it only have a 90 day warranty.

The other two I tested were decent as well. They are the JC Penny Caprenter $30 and the Smart Bargain Carpenter $27.

Don't suffer much back pain since I start using the memory foam pad & pillow. Love the stuff.

Good luck everyone.

Yeah, I bought one from Walgreen's. It sucked. I took it back a couple of days later. Save your money and buy one of the better pillows recommended in this thread. I just got the Sharper Image one. Takes some getting used to, but so far I like it. Now I just need a memory foam bed or at least a topper.

I guess everyone has his or her own favorite type of pillow~? I will take my cottonroll filled pillow anyday~ Not too soft, not too hard, and has enough air space in between them so the pillow doesn't get too warm either. It is not the cheapest way to make pillow but you can control the thickness of the pillow just the way you like it by adding/removing cottonrolls~

Thanks for the feedback. I have a relatively cheap Sealy and so far, it's been nice; but I'm always on the lookout for something better

Has anyone successfully (and comfortably) stacked two foam mattress toppers? I'm curious if I take two 1.5" toppers and stack them if it will be as good as a 3" topper. I'm thinking that heat transfer may be inhibited, as that's what helps the foam to take shape and such.

Your thoughts?

The reason for this is that I have a 1.5" topper now, and can get another for about $50, rather than the $200ish for a 4"

There is no difference between two 1.5 stacked, and a 3" one. Not only that, they stick like glue and don't slide at all.

Anyone used the Isotonic pillows from www.carpenter.com? Elder Beerman had them onsale for half price plus an additional 15% off and they came out to about $30. I got one today but haven't used it yet. They come with a 5 year warranty. They say visco elactic. How do these compare to latex pillows?

That's what I am using. You found a great deal on them. The line on the Isotonic is that they are less firm than the Tempurpedic. Even so, I would prefer the Isotonic to be a bit less firm than they are. They take some getting used to, and I am surprised when people report they like them the first night.

I have decided to buy a queen sized visco mattress for a platform bed. Now, I must decide between the name brands (Tempur-pedic, Isotonic, etc) or the internet brands like the Memory Foam Superstore or Mark's Half Price (anyone got an URL on Mark's?).

Has anyone else been down this road? What did you decide, and why?

Thanks for the info. You are right............It was hard for me to get used to it last night. I woke up several times. But after years of using normal pillows that get flat I kinda expected it. My neck has been giving me problems for the last few months and thats what pushed me to try the new pillow. I'll sleep on it for a week and report back.

I'm in need of a new bed. Its kinda sagging in the center, a little lumpy, dirty, and smells a bit. I want to toss everything and start over. I'ld like to try out these mattresses that are talked about here but I don't really have a clue as in to what to look for. In fact I don't know of any places around here that sells something like this. They all sell regular beds which is what I have now. I don't want to pay a fortune either but do want the "true" feel of one of these setups so which is the best low budget brand to get? I noticed there are kits on the memoryfoams web site with different inches and different densitys (in lbs) for a twin kit. I'm not sure what would be the ideal one to get nor know if that kit is the complete bed or if it requires a box spring or something below it.

Heres the one which I was looking at from the memoryfoam web site:

7" twin mattress kit with 4" of foamex's sensus 5.0lb density memory foam and 3" of talalay latex price: $402.44

That is way out of my price range for something like this but I guess if I like it then I could live with paying that much for a bed. However I would really like to try something out before buying it especially if i'm spending that much money. Is this price worth it or is there much better ways to go? Heck I don't even know if that kit will require a box spring or not.

Honestly, I know it's a long thread people, but look back through it - everyone's recent questions are answered.

Mark's half price bedding - memoryfoam.com

Make your own custom bed - I forget who reccommended JCPenny Polyurethane Foam - for the base (twin is $60)

and a topper a 3" or 4" Sensus will run you $150 or $185 @ Mark's. So grand total of $200-$250.

Then you pick your pillow; you can try the sensus, but it is a bit to get used to (most people sleep with it upside down and then are ok with it). If not you can go with an Isotonic/Carpenter foam pillow, those are popular too. They also are much softer than the sensus (and less dense).

I've been sneaking a peek every so often at this thread to see what's up in the world of pillows thinking I would some day replace the 40+ year old bag of feathers that I've dragged around with me for so many years.

Looked at the Isotonic but it was a bit pricey. Based on comments here, went to Costco's and bought a Novafoam. No flaking that I could see. It felt nice and supportive without being too hard. I had a good night's sleep on it last night so it looks like it's a keeper. Box says it has a 10 yr warranty.

Thanks for the thread and the info. Will letcha know if my opinion of this pillow changes.

What Minerat said. I haven't tried the latex but have heard good things about it. The Sensus is da` bomb. The pillow is unique. It seems too firm and too high but after a bit it's just so comfortable. I have the Isotonic too and it's best for back sleeping and maybe some side but if you like to put your arm under the pillow, the Sensus can't be beat. I recieved mine after ordering a Perfect Pillow from Mark's. After a bit I checked on the delay and found out he had mfr problems thru Xmas. He offered me a king Sensus at the same price and I'm so glad he did. I don't know the regular price oin a king sensus but you might be able to get it cheaper this way. We are hot deal ferengis after all, aren't we?
