Exactly I have some left views and some right views. Which makes it hard when both parties want to hard line one way or the other.



No you can't see the forest through the trees. I'm not being lazy if I was being lazy about it I would of stuck conservative like the way I grew up.

How can you vote policies you like when all the politicians are one way or the other? You vote democrat because you like one of his views but then another one of his views you can't stand. Same with the repubs, theres no middle ground. Every things all bickering and auguring now anyway. The 2 sides won't agree just to spite each other at this point.

So how can you tell me having views different than both mainstream parties is that easy, there is no right candidate for me to vote for ever I've tried. Then I suggest you get some priorities and figure out what's really important to you and support candidates that come closest your priorities. That, however, is different than saying all politicians are the same or that both parties are the same.

The problem is there are a lot of complex problems out there that can't be solved willy nilly and every one wants to pick a side and stick to it. It ends in nothing being solved because instead of coming up with a real solution it turns into a pissing match where the winner gets whatever bullshit ended up winning.

Whats the answer then bud? All the posts I've ever seen from you seem to support one side. So how do we come to the middle? Don't get me wrong we might argue but I like some of your points here and there. The same points I take to my conservative buddies and it gets em all riled up.

You don't come to the "middle", that's simply another side to be on. Facts, data, history, will give us the answer and when none of those are available to help make policy we have to rely on studies or be willing to test policies with the agreement that if a policy fails to address the issue we are aiming for that it will be rescinded.

So, as voters, we must vote for and support those that are willing to look at facts, data, history, etc. We must support politicians who are willing to change positions when new data becomes available.
That being said, we also must be supportive of those that understand how our government works and how slowly our government moves. Therefore, we also need politicians that are willing to compromise as a means to an end.

Having said that, in order to elect such people, the voters, you, have to be willing to do the work and learn about the people you can vote for or support. Claiming "both sides" abdicates that responsibility.

There are many good republicans out there that fit the bill (olympia snowe, Jon huntsman and once upon a time John mccain), however there are even more Democrats that fit the bill. You think I'm a lefty when in reality, there simply isn't that many people on the right that believe in facts and science. I've even said on this forum that I long for true conservatives to retake their party. Good factual debates are good for everyone when it comes to making good policy.


So you can continue to claim "both sides" all you want but just know with that mentality, you are the problem. Politicians don't elect themselves.

I still think we need to come to a middle by that I mean exactly what you just said. If everyone would look at fact, data and history they'd see stuff like the prison system exploding. Instead obviously a majority of the people in this country seem to say somebody please think of the children, lock em all up. In the lefts case its lets lock them all up and rehabilitate them, go to a jail see how that looks. Me being in the middle how about we just don't have laws against victim less crimes like prostitution and drugs. It'd take like 1.5 million people out of 2 million in the prison system.

My entire point the media, the ads, people with signs on street corners they don't do any investigation into candidates. They draw a party line and they pick their sides. I know you follow and know a whole lot more about politics than I do. I still feel like your on the lefts side 99% of the time, the lefts not innocent in the current political climate. If I thought I could do more good than debating on a message board I'd do it. I know I ain't quite right but I'm not lone wolf on the street corner shouting random political leanings not right.

If you worked at a jail and saw me always talking with rapist, would you think, "boy, he must be a rapist because he's always talking to them"?

This message board is filled with idiots who purposely ignore facts and there are liberals here as well, who most of the time deal in facts, does it make me a liberal because I don't agree with the idiots and I side with the liberals? I go where the facts take me and unfortunately for this board, facts from the right are rare. If you think you know me well enough then you should know that I think most Bernie supporters are the equivalent of trump supporters, uniformed, ideological, and heavily team oriented.

Not for nothing, but it isn't just in the US... I went up to my parent's cottage in Canada over the weekend, and their conservative party leader was just elected. Hearing some of the things he said reminded me of the US right wing ideas, including Islamophobia.

And the people in the small town up there are just like a lot of rural voters in the US. When they found out I was from the US, they would rave about all the things Trump is doing for us. One lady even said she had to pay extra to get Fox News up there because all she had was CNN and that was "fake news". I had a good laugh at that one... Needless to say, they didn't like Justin Trudeau.

I don't think it's any surprise that people from isolated backwoods areas are more prone to be conservative. That's also true of the backwoods conservative muslims who are basically the mirror image of their western counterparts, and amusing enough each use those opposing conservatives as justification to hate on the whole culture/race when they're cut from the same cloth.
