7 dB differnce between 590 stock vs 6990 stock.
2 dB differnce between 590 OC vs 6990 OC.

and a whopping 65db difference after the 590 blows up

I really hate both those cards tbh ... both failure copies of what could very well go in two separate pcie slots.

BUT !

I'm quite curious to see what an OC'd 6990 on water will do, cuz if it does match 6970 OC XF .. then man that card could have a point (and your PSU too, of course).

I'm also quite curious to see what a non-reference explodey PCB 590 OC'd on water will do, because if it can match GTX580 levels, we'll have made the most powerful waterblock ever (mwahahaa my waterblock eats 800Watts of heat - types of comment would be awesome).

Still too early to actually compare those cards as there's no serious OC as far as I know (yay somebody made 1 ghz .. so cool, time to start overclocking for real now).

From what I've seen, the 590 is utter fail. It's a quiet enthusiasts card? WTF?

The CU-DA sucks. It really, really sucks.

I also don't like proprietary support engine software that gives other company's hardware bugs and problems and then doesn't even support multi-threading very well in lieue of prioritizing console gaming > PC gaming.

I'm not sure of why the fascination with such things.

Back OT, how many people here really are excited about either of these cards? 2x580 or 2x6970 are vastly superior in almost any scenario (at least a non-water scenario), pcm81's quadfire or tri sli/xfire is the only time that I could make a case for using a sandwich this time around. Plus, even with TSMC's recent spat of process implementation issues, it appears that 28nm will be here soon.

appendix would have been a better play, you don't need that anyway. Also, you can get by without a gall bladder in a pinch. No kidneys = lots of dialysis and pain = fail. no liver = no alcohol = epic fail.
