Not to disrespect your opinion or anything, but this is completely wrong. I have run several beta versions, Beta #2, Pre-RC, and now the RC1 on my Dell P4, 2.66 Mhz Inspiron Laptop with 768 MB RAM, Ati Mobile 7500 Video card with only 32 MB RAM. RC1 and Beta 2 run as smooth as silk without any problems whatsoever. The only thing I had to install drivers for was the video card and I used the Windows XP driver from Dell. I haven't had any lock-ups bluescreens or errors at all. I'm using it as my regular OS for now.

Of course I am not trying to run it in Aero Glass or anything stupid like that...

Maybe its me?

what adapter? Vista's supposed to have a built in BT stack, but using the help I couldn't find it based off what MS said. My BT is the Logitech diNivo, as far as Logi releasing drivers for Vista, even when it's offically out. I won't be holding my breath. MY BT keyboard works with no issues, but I can't do anything else, like teather my cell phone or use OBEX to xfer files back and forth.

I would be very interested to hear from somebody who has accomplished teathering with a cell phone + vista using BT. I can't figure the sh!t out at all

This is with a Intel C2D, Gigabyte DS3.

had this same problem, I tried installing about 6 times, different ways each time. The way I got it to work was to kill a partition and let Vista create it itself. I know this wasn't a fluke for me because I did it 2 more time afterwards. As for the not letting you boot from the DVD. try copying all the files to your HD, and installing from XP, you can tell it to do a clean install and select the partition. That's how I did mine, and my XP was fully intact. This problem is wide spread, I hope by release they've ironed it out, because installing turned out to be a royal pain in the ass for me.

The common hardware between our 2 systems is the motherboard so I am guess its a mb driver issue or the video card. My video card is PCIe and if yours is it might be a problem with it running full speed. What I want to know is this something that will be fixed with a new driver of is the motherbord handicapped runing Windows Vista.

Small problem here, I downloaded RC1 and burned it to DVD at 1X. I then proceeded to boot from the DVD to try and do a dual boot install and I can't get past the Vista splash screen, or load screen whatever you want to call it. The screen where the bars go across on the bottom of the screen. Last attempt to load Vista on Beta 2 I did the install from XP as a dual boot also but got all kinds of HDD errors and had to delete it. I read that installing from the boot disk is the way to go. Any ideas as to why this won't work?

I got a nice little email to DL the new vista release. So I did and burnt the dvd. I installed over the vista beta already on the drive. Vista installed ok ...UNTIL... its in the last step "updating settings" (something like that). The very last step. It rebooted once or twice during this but then it seems stuck at the last step "updating settings".

I did a hard reboot and tried again. This time it said I had to install it into a clean folder and the old vista would be relabeled WINDOWS.OLD.
So I did, and again to stops at the last step "updating settings".

HELP!

I left it for two hours and came back. Still at the same point. And I noticed my HD activity light is on solid too. I finally did a hard reboot to get back into XP.

ANyone seeing this? What is the install time (if sucessful)???

Well this morning I tried it again and just let it go all day. I dont I started the clean install @ 7am and at 9:30am it was still on the last step. So I just left it.
At 6pm it was done asking for a user name, time setting, etc.
So I dont know how long it too but it took A LONG TIME to install on a system pent4 2.6 with 2 gig memory.

ANyway, it was done. First thing that surprised me is it installed all my hardware automatically. No yellowed out items in device mgr. It even installed my ati HDTV wonder by itself. That really was a surprise since ati HD wonder is always a pain to manually install.

So there might be hope? Havent played with the new release but I kinda think most will just stick with XP and not buy vista when its final.

Running RC1 on a A64 3500+ @ 2.45GHz, 1.5Gig PC3200. Installed 3dMark 05. Video is 7300GT 128meg DDR3-stock spped(no way to OC in Vista). Supplied video drivers gave a 3D Mark of 1655. Installed 66.33 drivers from Nvidia site and got 2683. A marked improvement. Was not able to successfully install 3D Mark 03. Tried to install Leadteks info and OC utility but it's a 16 bit program and won't install.

Currently downloading 3D Mark 06. Never used it before because I had a 6200 video card. My current card scores 4375 on 3D Mark 05 in XP. I'll check 06 on XP and Vista later.

The system is like a slideshow now its like frame by frame like a driver problem. So I installed ATI RC1 video drivers and still same problem. I have checked resources on machine and there not show any high usage. I did the compatability test and there wiere no probles showing for video or hard drive. The via drivers that were installed by default have no updates and seem to be no problem. Anyone used this board for vista? I hope I dont have to send it back and get something more compatible.

I use the same board and I have the same problem.
This guy uses a X1900XT and i use an X850XT.

Does anyone know about the problem and how to solve it?
Is it the mobo? My old AGP 6600GT runs fine.

Ok I finaly got this working on my system and to make a long story short uninstall the ATI RC1 drivers and use the default driver. If after u uninstalled and rebooted and system still slow goto device manager and remover the 2 default radeon drivers and reboot again. That should fix it .

If you notice a memory leak or think that it *might* be a memory leak, then your IT instructor should report the problem to microsoft. I didn't encounter any abnormal memory usage. What makes you think there's a memory leak?

One side question: If the drivers are supposed to run at the user level, then why are we still getting BSOD from driver problems (bugs or incompatibility)? Isn't the purpose of user-level drivers is to enable better stability from poorly written drivers (i.e. Vista should gracefully prevent the hardware device from causing system instability, lockups, and BSOD)?

You're getting BSODs? I haven't seen a single BSOD with Vista.

I could "reliably" produce BSODs from the x86 version of build 5536 upon plugging in USB keys (it did it with every key my roommate and I could find). However, so far, I've had no problems with the x64 version of RC1. Memory usage with the new caching (I assume) is terribly high. On my system with 4GB of RAM, Vista is sitting at 1.7GB with only Outlook 2007, Firefox, foobar2000, avast, and two copies of Folding@Home active. If the caching isn't supposed to do this, and this is actually a bug, I should report it - but what exactly would I report, since none of the processes individually seem to be using more than 100MB or so?

I kept getting BSOD on my Evo N610C laptop when doing the system benchmark. Maybe its an ATI driver problem?

That doesn't seem right. I am currently using 580MB of ram and I have 4 firefox windows, thunderbird, WMP, and Trillian running. I only have 1GB of ram though so maybe it only caches if you have extra available memory available.

Vista RC1 black screened after only 10 minutesof a small Yahoo downloadable game called Cactus Bruce. Just for hahas I loaded it on a 900 Duron gf440 video 512mb pc and it runs surprsingly well. I hope to beat the snot out of it, once the ram and new video card is here. I LIKE the idea that I can load it on up to 10 pcs unril June2007 but hoping for at least 1 more rc before launch or better driver support for sound and video on most AMD64 motherboards of the NF4 variety.

Has anybody figured out a way to overclock video on Vista? I know Coolbits and Nvideas programs won't work but is there another route? I have a 7300GT DDR3 that runs at 650/ 1620 in XP but is limited to the stock 520/1400 in Vista.

Everything appears fine, the only thing that I have problems with is my Nostromo N52 gamepad. It recognizes it, but the game software to configure it can't.
