Duke2106,
Same problom hear no matter what I try.
I e-mail Belkin and have only recieved a form letter reply. I expected better from them.
If this software worked I would run Vista full time.

Bill Kunert,
Same thing here with 6800GT 350/1000 stock, I have it running 450/1120 all I did was flash the video bios. Card is stll rock stable in Vista like it was in XP.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the nostromo and vista issues. That's why I set a dual boot--cause I didn't want to take that chance. Other than that one issue everything else works.

I really wish that Belkin would update the software. That gamepad rocks for city of heroes/villains! As long as I don't have to type, I find my hands rarely straying from the mouse/pad.

At this stage, will Microsoft be able to ship Vista to businesses by November and general users by January? It seems people are still having driver problems, software incompatibility, BSOD, poor graphic drivers, etc. Part of me wants Microsoft to release it as scheduled, but I would rather have them release the best possible in terms of performance, security, and usability than half-*ss done by rushing. We've waited for so long already so a few more months shouldn't matter too much.

RC1 runs fine right now except for many annoyances (too many clicks to do what took only two at most in XP), performance is good, and UAC is still annoying but itsn't too bad.

If you were around for the XP release, then you might recall that the same problems applied there as well -- driver problems, software incompatibility, etc. Microsoft released XP anyway, and the drivers gradually improved as hardware companies released newer drivers, software problems improved as newer versions of software became available, etc. Your best bet is NOT to be an early adoptee. I myself waited a full year and a half before changing my main system over to XP from 2000, and I expect a similar delay for Vista.

Is anyone having trouble getting on the web with Vista?

I cant go to websites that are not microsoft. Google wont even load. I've tried turning off all the security settings (firewall, protecteded mode, etc). I also disabled IP6 on my connection.

I've been seraching the web, but I havent been able to find mention of this problem.

Hi Virge, yeah, played with several drivers so far, even unticked the 'Hide un-supported' when looking for drivers, selected un-supported driver, yet next screen, drive/partition not seen. So, in the end changed the drive with space to the Nvidia SATA controller, this time saw the drive..Wahoooo, erh, hold on!. Windows doesnt see system volume criteria to install on this drive/partition ??!!
I'm guessing the system volume is on the other drive which is on the other controller....So, is it save to move the cable to the other controller for a system volume?

Thats the only move I have left or 2 new builds on the Nvidia controller with system volumes.

Has anyone else had issues with the Nvidia 96.33 drivers crashing during install? Towards the end the screen goes black and then the PC restarts. Though it does seem like they are loaded since I get the Control Panel and device manager says it's 96.33. I have been experiencing some problems, which is why I ask, though it may just be a beta driver issue.

Also, is it the case that in Control Panel you can only set up the monitor configuration? I mean, my only option is to set up a clone/extended desktop; I can't even set up display resolutions since there is no other option.

This is all in build 5600. Vid card is a 6600GT.

Yay, moved other drive to Nvidia SATA controller, loaded 5600, had to get Audigy drivers however install said drivers stop working 5/11/06?, Marvel LAN working but connectivity suspect, Nvidia LAN on now. SCSI card and drive also sorted.

Hi TopCat, Are u using Nvidia platform drivers on RC1 5600?. I havent done that, neccessary?.

EDIT - ops, 96.33, they are graphics drivers!?

Yeah, it was the 96.33 graphics drivers. The default drivers worked fine for me, but Windows decided not to include a "clone display" feature still, so I had to try out Nvidia. Of course, the drivers, while they crash during install, install the Nvidia control panel and allow me to clone, the virtual desktop functionality seems to be missing. I need that since my second display is at a different native res than my primary. Not sure if just wasn't included yet, or maybe it's because of the driver crash.

TopCat, are you not using the 'expand' feature instead of clone, good for different res size!

So, is there any way for me to gain true admin privileges in Vista? I mean, this is utter garbage if the only way is for me to jump through hoops to unlock the true Admin account and have to log in as it to do something simple like save a downloaded file to a partition other than C:.

SolMiester:
I prefer clone mode for the particular setup that I have. Suffice it to say that extended is a PITA for me.

I don't think there is a problem with it. I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 with the Mobility 7500, 32 MB ram Video. Vista installs it under a generic driver and I have to update the driver with the Windows XP Driver which works just fine. Of course it only scores a 1 on the performance charts. I've been testing it on this laptop since the Beta 2 and haven't had any blue screen errors at all. So your problem may be something else.

Which driver are you using? I used the Windows Update Driver that is very outdated and everything is sluggish. I tried the Omega driver and Vista crashes after boot screen....

Suffered a lock up again using 5728.

Shutdown - rebooted, did a format on the Vista partition, merged the partition, removed the boot entry for Vista, removed the Vista bootloader.

Might try it again when they issue Service Pack 2.

I am using the driver from the Dell website for the Inspiron 5100 Laptop. I didn't use any installer program, just device manager, update driver and point it to look in the folder I unzipped the files into.

Just wanted to say that I had a go at using the readyboost feature today.

Installed Vista on a laptop with these specs:

Pentium 4 2.53, 512 MB RAM, Geforce 4 go 420 32M, VERY slow hard drive.

Vista was set up so that it was nice 'n' bloated - Aero Basic, wallpaper on, a few sidebar widgets, and live messenger in the background. Then I installed Google earth will all graphics settings on maximum.

Normally just with Windows 2000, there's loads of paging going on whilst you use google earth, it just gets slower and then takes about half a minute to exit, cos of all the disk swapping (and of course another 30sec-min wait before you can load up another app). With vista, lets not go there, but it was a lot worse!

I popped a 1GB crucial flash drive in and set readyboost to use 512 MB of it, and all I can say, is that it's fantastic. No more pauses with google earth due to swapping and no waiting for it to exit, and the laptop is now butter smooth I know that for apps like gaming its still no replacement for actual memory upgrades, but for your average joe who will like buy a dell/HP for with only 512MB running Vista, and god knows how much extra bloatware, just to use internet/email/office its a great feature - should've been implemented years ago.

Check my sig for specs-

I attempted installed RC1 x64 last night but sadly realized I couldn't due to a lack of partition space for it- today I found a proggy to minimize my current partition and make a new one, it did so quite well and again I attempted to install vista. I got to the screen where it wants a HDD, obviously nothing came up because I'm running a raid array. I attempted to load my raid drivers but sadly realized I couldn't as gigabyte hasnt released intel 64bit yet- however AMD64 posted and I loaded those drivers. The partition showed up and I attempted to install windows- it started the steps and windows said copying files which it finished instantly (i thought odd?) then when it was trying to expand the files it simply stayed at 0% now I'm sure this has something to do with my trying to use amd64 drivers to install windows.. but has something similar to this happened to anyone else.. and is there any means of getting my intel raid array onto vista? :[ thanks

I just installed Vista RC1 build 5728 64 bit today. I chose a fresh install on a new partition. There were no problems with the install. I installed the latest beta forceware drivers and the beta Creative driver. The Creative driver generated some pop up messages due to Windows thinking it was an insecure driver. I just clicked through them and the installation completed successfully. So far, web browsing works fine and I'm not seeing any slow downs or stuttering. I'm using Firefox with no issues. My next step will be to install Half-Life 2 Episode 1 and see if it's playable.

Specs:
A64 3500+, 6800GT, 1GB RAM, MSI K8N Neo2, Soundblaster XtremeMusic, Seagate 7200.10 320GB hard drive
Edit: My Windows experience rating is 4.1
