Guys with creative issues, I have gotten my WinXP 32-bit drivers to work for vista x64. Others have gotten WInXP x64 drivers to work. i would start with vista x64,32-bit, WinXP x64, WinXP 32-bit. If none of these drivers work then i would say you have to wait.

has anyone gotten Nero to work? I installed it but Can't get it to start up. I believe it is Nero 6, could be 7, but I am pretty sure it is 6 with DVD writing support.

OP, nVidia has updated 88.61 drivers available for Beta 2 now, so it would be really helpful if you updated your nVidia video driver link that currently points to the older 75.03 drivers.

Also, I found these RealTek HD Audio Beta drivers helpful for my ALC 880 onboard audio. With the stock Vista HD Audio drivers, Vista was incorrectly routing the 2-channel audio to my computer's front panel jacks instead of the rear jacks.

BWGBurn is a free writing program, version 0.6 was written for Vista per this posting:

for those of you running the x64 vista with ati graphics, install the ati catalyst beta 2 driver and get the xp pro x64 WDM and install that. When I just installed the beta2 driver I couldnt run anything but with the WDM installed vista seemed to recognize my graphics card a bit better.

I installed the game FEAR perfectly, and it didnt really recognize directx10, so i kinda had to trick the game with the settings switching from directx8 support on then testing, then off again and directx10 kicked in.

note. If you do not install the xp64 ati WDM fear will not display textures correctly.

That's nice that they're trying to support it this early on, but it just isn't working on Vista x64.

Warcraft III audio does not work after you patch it. The sound works fine until you try to connect to Battle.net and it does the autopatch. I have heard the same thing happens with Diablo 2.

Halflife 2 and counterstrike source seems to work just fine for me.

I have a silicon Image PCI card because my MOBO does not support SATA and there are no working drivers for Vista yet, so it seems you can't get a Silicon Image SATA to work just yet.

I used windows XP drivers for my SATA.

Out of curiosity, I looked at Nero and Roxio products, they all state WinXP 32-bit only, at least with Suse 64 bit, I can burn DVD and CD and make compilations.

ok, weirdest thing ever. I started up my computer just now, as you know I can't get Vista to recognise my second HDD.

After the normal error that it can't find drivers for my SATA drive, I go looking around My computer for fun. And what do I see...my second HDD.

I dont' get it. The SATA Raid control program always starts up, but I always close it. I did nothing different this time around yet for some reason it shows up.

I am afraid that once I restart, it will go away, who knows what happened.

Are you opening it with Nero Express? If so, try using Nero ROM. That works for me (Express doesn't).

yes, I was dong express, ROM seems to work(havn't tested it yet, but it does start).

And with my HDD...my guess is that BWGBurn installed some drivers that allowed my SATA HDD to be recognized. So if anyone else is having problems with a SATA driver, I would suggest installing BWGBurn, it is worth a shot.

I honestly don't think that Vista really even notices what kinda of socket and memory interface you are running. I think the BIOS abstracts the nitty gritty of your processor and memory interface and presents windows with a fairly standard layer for the data to go back and forth between the OS and the hardware.

The worst case scenario is usually that you lose any special optimizations built into the motherboard drivers, but usually nothing blows up unless the hardware is doing something your BIOS can't completely abstract out, like having two processor cores on one socket (hence all the special dual core driver patches for XP).

For example, an unpatched copy Windows XP can install just fine on a system with PCIe-based graphics even though the interface didn't exist when WinXP was written. It won't run fast until you install the motherboard drivers and the video card drivers, but it will at least throw an image up on the screen. So AM2 systems will likely install and boot just fine, but could have some performance issues if their chipsets aren't supported by the nVidia/ATi/Via beta drivers for Vista.

Heres a simple question. is there a way to remove the vista note that is on the vista display screen at bottom right?

Also, is there a way to turn OFF those annoying prompts about system changes - continue, when you run so many programs or changes?

Winamp newest ed. as of this post causes a phxxx.sys file to not allow startup in 64 bit edition. no fix that I know of atm.
just like daemon tools' sptd.sys file, but reportedly there is a fix if anyone needs it reply or pm me.

p.s. if anyone finds any modded ati beta2 64 bit drivers plz me.

to get an x-fi working under 64bit beta 2:

run the command prompt (cmd.exe) "as administrator"... you can do this by right clicking on the executable ... then use BCDedit to disable the x64 required driver integrity check by typing: bcdedit /set nointegritychecks on

the windows XP 64-bit beta drivers will now install and will at least do stereo

1. Windows key and R to open the run command line.
2. Type in " msconfig " (without the quotes).
3. Go to the tools tab.
4. At the bottom will be a tool called " Disable UAP " Select this tool and click the launch button. A reboot will be required.
5. Done. No more annoyance.

I've installed both X64 and X86 they both installed with no problems (my comp is a stock HP A1250N) I never had A BSOD or anything. The problem I have is speedfan and sound dont work on X64. Other than that I am using Vista for everything now XP seems so blah compared to Vista. I run the X86 now so I can get sound and Blizzard games dont work with Vista (32 or 64 bit). IE 7 takes 3 minute s to load my home page (google.ca) and 10+ mins to load anandtech.com but Firefox works perfectly.

My Experience so far:

1) Speedfan only works on the 32 bit version
2) Blizzard games will only work if you never go online and dont patch them
3) Use Firefox becuase IE 7 may look nice but its slower than dial up even if you have broadband
4) Use the 32 Bit version because of better drivers. (My system rating went from 2 to 4 by installing ATI Drivers)

This is just my opinion and YMMV but I love Vista, My 2 cents.
