No. Is there evidence of a "massive freakout"? It sounds made-up.
I remember being very surprised, but don't recall any negative reaction about it.

BTW, do you like Hugh Jackman's accent in X-Men or Yvonne Strahovski's accent in 24 and Chuck?so i stumbled upon this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbPS7K9falk
that's will smith's latest film (the trailer).
now, i actually know people who speak like that. but why cast someone who everyone - worldwide - has familiarity with, and make them do that ridiculous accent?
again, not ridiculous per se, but because we know it's fake.
i can't think of a single actor pulling off a fake accent that wasn't over the top, silly, purposedly exagerated to make a caricature out of a character.
opinions.. go!

he was doing OK, I was picking up his character without too much trouble. I think there were a half dozen other actors who could have done the part effectively.
Vondie Curtis-Hall was who I had in mind.
This is the big issue.Someone I had to Google to recognize. That just isn't going to pull in people to watch a movie about something nobody really cares about. People are going to see this trailer and say "Oh, a Will Smith movie! I'll see that."
i think Forest Whitaker would have been a better fit for this role.
don't have sound here at work, but no fucking way it can be worse than sam jackson's lisp in the kingsman movie.
