I hope all of this analysis is just in good fun to pick apart a show and think about what you'd do differently or whatever.

The show is what it is. If you're looking for more realistic survival, maybe check out one of those Discovery channel shows like Dual Survivors or Survivorman.

There's plenty of cheesy or convenient scenes added to progress the story, or to add drama, or whatever. But it's fiction. Just fill in the blanks with whatever the hell you want.

when i was watching this last episode i was thinking about how it is always dry and never raining in this show. and then i started thinking about past episodes and if it rained.

and i couldn't remember it raining, ever, in this show.

does anyone else remember if it rained at all?

Yeah, it actually rained as a way to add tension to an early episode. I forget the specific one, but it's where Rick covered himself in guts so the walkers wouldn't notice him. It started to rain and wash it off.

All this time with little to no showering...imagine how their crotches smell...

Everyone knows it never rains in the south, it's always bright and sunny with 80 degree weather :hmm:

oooooooh yeah i do remember that episode. and that is before we knew everyone was infected and where everyone would freak out if they got a spot of zombie blood on them. i remember wondering why he wasn't concerned about all the zombie blood all over him during that scene.

I think there should be plenty of gas. Civilization fell rather quickly so there should be plenty of reserves. Half the cars sitting around would probably have some gas in them. People usually have some for their lawn equipment in the garage. Any gas stations who's electricity failed before they ran out of gas would have some. Then there's probably large quantities in storage, or that were being transported.

Although they should probably switch to diesel vehicles since diesel lasts longer, and you can also burn other fuels. Every decent sized farm is going to have diesel storage tanks.
There's gotta be a diesel fired bulldozer around that they can clear the road and run over zombies with.

If they are zombie killing machines this season, why not just take back the farm - by force? Too many bad memories of those they lost?

I don't understand why they don't clear the front yard of the prison.

Yeah this I don't understand. They can do the simple make noise wait for zombie to come to fence stab in face tactic they did when they first started clearing it out. Probably wouldn't even take an hour with one person doing it, hardest part is relocating the bodies.

What would be there for them?

If the place is so easily overran by a group of zombies unlike the prison why go back?

Also I would assume most of the stuff would had burned down as they made a nice sized fire.

Only two things I can think of about clearing the yard again is they are worried about being that out in the open in case the governor decides to start shooting again, or they figure the zombies are somewhat of a barrier in case they decide to attack the prison again.

That was the only thing I could think of. Leave the zombies in the field so you have less area you have to watch over and keeps you in a place with more cover while doing so. Makes sense I suppose though I doubt that is what the shows producers ever thought of

zombie bite turns you into a zombie, but zombie blood / guts doesn't?

The zombie bite doesn't turn you into a zombie. The bite causes a nasty infection that kills you and since everyone is infected, when you die you then turn into a zombie.

Speaking of the farm, one thing I was hoping that they'd expound upon, and maybe they did in the comics, was the concept of these zombie herds. Why are they collecting into herds? How do they know to do that? And where do they think they're going? I was hoping for some insight into a deeper explanation of how the disease spread, how it operates, and what effect it had on people. I think it'd be kinda cool if they were all being drawn toward something.

Zombies make a good first line of defense, too. Woodbury people have two way in, through the front gate and the zombies, or through the back catacombs where T-dawg #3 and his group got through. Since Woodburians aren't as experienced fighting zombies, they'd get eaten up in the catacombs for sure, and the field would do a hurting.

They kind of showed it, on how they form. Remember when they showed the helicopter fly through the city and not far from the farm? It showed how the zombie followed the noise in the direction it was from and they just keep going that way till something else catches their attention (for that herd it was the gun shot that killed Shane).

The disease doesn't spread as everyone is infected and you become a zombie when you die.

one zombie sees a human and moans/starts following... other zombies hear that moan, recognize it as potential for food, and it just cascades.

If it doesnt spread, then why was it necessary to cut off Herschel's leg?

Because of the infection of being bit, a mouth full of diseases from the walkers mouth, it has nothing to do with the "zombie" virus since as it was said everyone is already infected with it.

Human mouths are nasty. Dead human mouths have to be REALLY nasty. A few years ago NBA player David Lee's elbow got in a collision with Wilson Chandler's mouth. The cut got infected so bad that it swelled up the size of a softball, required multiple surgeries and an antibiotic cocktail to stop the infection. He missed over two weeks of playing time, and ended up taking shots for months. Now imagine getting bit by a walking, rotting, corpse that's been chewing on whatever it can find.
