Damn. Is this a multi-episode arc?... I swear to god I remember seeing last week's preview and it had scenes in the Prison.

Just got my answer from the preview.

My wife was like "ugh, another brit?". It was surprising enough to hear Rick talk in his real accent.

Do you think the staff wanted us to feel sorry for him? I didn't really see it that way. However, I am glad that they showed us where he's been.

I have a hard time getting a grasp of this episode. I certainly liked that they showed what the Governor has been doing, and that he's a more complex character than the cartoon-like villain of last season. But I'm not sure we needed a whole episode to focus on him. (And there were quite a few lines from the new women that were fairly cheesy, and out of place.) But I do think I like his arc.
I think it'll really depend on where they take this character from here.

It seems to me that the new showrunner (and writers, and editors, etc) are trying to work themselves out of a bind with this character. It's like they sat in a room and said "We need damage control on the Governor's character, after they totally botched it last season."

Looks like he goes back to the old ways to keep the camp going.

Now amc has a marketable idea by making a chess set with the kings wearing eye patches.

If they don't profit on that someone will.

I feel that everything in this episode could've been told with cut-aways during a normal episode involving the group and that they deliberately decided to expand it into a whole episode just to spread them out (filler).

I didn't mind the side plot, I just feel that it wasn't worth an entire episode.

The episode made the Governor a sympathetic character...but I thought it was a bit boring. The two older girls were SO annoying. Especially the chick with the gun trying to act tough.

Yeah, she was laughable at certain points. I still don't understand whatsoever, why she barked "What do you think this is, a Holiday Inn?!?!" at the Governor when he was returning his plate. Ummm, I don't think you drop off your dirty plate in front of other people's door, at a Holiday Inn.

However, I do love how (even with the Governor's story arc) they are keeping with this season's theme of "can you come back from what you have done?"

I doubt they will do it as the gov is in evil mode again when we saw him the previous episode sitting outside the fence and was more then likely the one that is luring all the zombies to the fences by feeding them.

So I would say don't get to attached to the new group.

Yea, I was kind of torn about the scene from the episode before last. After the episode last night, I think he might have been watching the prison for a while figuring out whether or not he should let his beef with Rick go.....but then again, the conversation he had with Megan while playing Chess kind of squashed that for me. He is fighting some demons. I think he's still mad.

Interesting note that David Morrissey mentioned during The Talking Dead... When asked why the Governor threw away the SpaghettiO's, he mentioned that he didn't want to feel like he owed anyone anything. I thought that was an interesting insight into the Governor's state of mind.

Did it sort of look like something that happened after the showdown where he went nuts and killed the townspeople at the end of last season. Since after the fireside scene the last of his goons abandoned him then it led to his Willie Nelson travels.

I think last weeks episode when we saw him at the prison fence line was him dropping off the two sisters and the daughter to live there so they would be safe. Safe at least as perceived by the Governor.

I liked the episode quite a bit, some of it was predicable, and I knew the one sister wasn't a real cop, she was just trying too hard.

My only real "why did they do that" moment, was, why did they leave that apartment complex? They had food, it seemed safe enough(the sister have been safe there for many many months it seemed).

It would have only been a matter of time before they ended up dead at some point. They didn't even know that they needed to kill the brain to stop the zombies. They were clueless about everything. Also, with the sister going upstairs to shoot the zombies....it wouldn't have been long before they were overrun.

How did they survive that long to begin with? If the Governor wasn't there to kill Granddad, all three of the girls would have been zombies.
