The problem is that eventually they would all get out. They clearly went over this in the episode.

Which was a problem, but their solution was beyond stupid. "Let's just lead them on down the road!" The idea they don't need to actually deal with walkers is stupid. Every walker you put down is one less you need to worry about you later.

Agreed. They easily could have built a fucking wall to close off the road coming out of the quarry, then station a couple people at the other gap of the trucks and kill the zombies one at a time as they leave. Not difficult.

This was an incredibly stupid way to start a season.

If walkers were attracted to the quarry in the first place because of the noise the other walkers were making, then it would stand to reason that the solution to walker problem would be to make a whole bunch of new quarries to trap most of the walkers and then burn them up? Why just send them on there way down the yellow brick road to just to kill some other people eventually?

Just remembered things called combines existed. Why not get a combine from one of the many farms they've driven by and make a nice 20' wide zombie clearing machine...

I know. And it was a bullshit excuse that I talked about earlier.

Granted, the quarry would have filled up eventually and then walkers would use the bodies of the immobile walkers to escape sort of like on WWZ. But the solution to that problem is turn them to ash. Don't kill every last one of them. Leave enough to attract more.

I mean we're about 2 years in at this point - although the writers don't want to pin it down but it's around that. So for at least a year or 2, zombies have been accumulating in the quarry. That means in a worst case scenario, you'd only have to clean it up every 6-12 months.

It was not only an idiotic plan but it was one that was so convoluted that you knew from the very moment it was hatched that it was going to be truly biblical clusterfuck.

On a tangent, who was it in this thread who lived in Atlanta? I have to stay for a few days for business, do they have any Walking Dead tours or anything cool? Also, food recommendations in the area? :awe:

I think digging & filling a quarry with the resources & man power would be impractical don't forget the noise.
Their plan didn't seem completely unreasonable to me the zombies were going to break out they needed to cull their numbers.
I did find in FTWD that the Army not guarding a stadium full of zombies unreasonable.

it's obviously a stupid solution but the writers needed them to work together, harden some civilians, kill off some, and get a herd of zombies going and whatever else they plan on doing.

If you need to question every action that doesn't pass the sniff test you wouldnt enjoy any show.

You're right of course. My point is that they could have created the same scale and drama using a less contrived premise. For example, some sort of herding action by the wolves would have fit better with the plot and would have been consistent with their using zombies as weapons.

@Kaido - thanks for the salary discussion. That was both interesting and surprising. AMC are some cheap-ass bastards.

Pretty much the norm...Those salaries can escalate pretty quickly moving forward. The rub is they have the wiggle room and there are some characters they have to maintain somewhat due to the web comic... Not absolutely as they've already proven, but I doubt they will kill Rick off.

For the people complaining about it... What else would they like the show to have covered in that 90 minutes?

You need cliff hangers - Like the horn. You need tension, like the massive herd of walkers.

They need to realize that while TWD does go of script from time to time with the web comic, it still can't be completely organic and logical because... Web Comic.

As a casual viewer I have two questions:
1. What was the Peanut Butter bar joke all about? Did she, in fact take a bar?
2. Did they film this quarry scene in the same quarry as used in Season 1 you think?

1) yes - when they met up with Morgan in an earlier season she took 1. it was a callback to that.

2) not sure - I don't think it wasn't mentioned on Talking Dead that it was he same.

Think I got an idea from the preview during Talking Dead.

The one thing that really annoys the shit out of me from both the show and it's fans is when the Talking Dead is treated like something that's required viewing to understand wtf is going on. I remember the past couple of years when odd shit happened and the phrase everyone kept saying "They explained that on the Talking Dead." While I get it doesn't really apply here, my irritation with that stupid talk show is tapped....

This on the other hand amused the hell out of me..

i live in Atlanta and would recommend just making your own tour...

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zD38FaCAJQek.k_FDpSYzC2wI&hl=en_US

as for food, we are a city with everything and plenty of great restaurants.

Nice thanks! The restaurants here are bananas, but so is the traffic! I would totally move here if it didn´t have those weird 4-way intersections with only 3 stop signs (or insane summertime humidity). Plus thereś a TON of stuff to do, I had no idea Atlanta was this dense! Itś like a less-stressful NYC. The stacked population also explains the sheer number of zombies in TWD :hmm:

From what I can figure:

1. The quarry incident was a fluke (zombies escaping on their own)
2. The Wolves intended to ruin the town; the semi-truck was full of zombies to release
3. The walkers headed towards Alexandria was not anyone's plan

Alternatively, the Wolves rigged up the quarry as a distraction. Maybe. But they could have left team members to take out Rick's crew in the woods if that was the case. Maybe that's what Rick is talking about in the preview when he says to kill anything that gets in your way.

The one thing that really ticked me off in this episode is how lax everyone was under siege. Morgan just kind of walks everywhere, and lets a dude take a gun. That's going to come back to haunt them later. Carol chills pondering the cigarettes for awhile. I've finally accepted the fact that the villagers are dumb. Finally Deanna is realizing how vastly unprepared they are, as she realizes that she herself will just be a liability back inside the town if she tries to help.

It was an intense episode. Really really good. A million times better than the whole FTWD series I'm curious as to why they showed Enid's backstory...she's obviously going to come into play later. Poor turtle I also accept the preacher now...he's finally woken up to the reality that he lives in.

One of the things I like to think about is what I would do differently. Like, there's no real alarm system for the whole town to go into armed & ready mode. Why not use the baby video camera up in the clocktower to keep an eye on the main road? There's a million ways they could be safer, but they still need to move the plot along & they do it in such a good way that I don't mind the details like that.

Oh, and Carol is awesome.

Deanna didn't want to go inside and then in the truck she had this sort of guilty look. Did she know something or was she just realizing that Rick was right the whole time? I almost thought the horn was Enid's parents trying to get that car working (didn't realize it was Enid and a flashback at first). Carol was fucking awesome! When that smoking woman got attacked i thought that was like carols imagination or something. That was so unexpected!

Towards the end, it appeared those B&W pictures in the packet were taken from inside the walls? As in there is a traitor somewhere within the walls?

They dropped them outside the wall at the end of last season. That was part of Aaron's welcome package to potential recruits.
