That is my major beef with this whole arc as well. As portrayed, there is no way Negan would have even lived long enough to meet the group to begin with. He is super careless, and I get the impression that for the most part, his group would fold like the fifth element mercenaries if you take out their leader.

Oh my word, Negan uttered the greatest line I think I've heard on The Walking Dead. It even is on par (or perhaps exceeds) with some of the shit that Big Red (Abraham) said.

I don't see that as a story issue though. I don't think Negan has always acted like this, I think it's a result of the power he's attained through building this group (not far from how Dictatorships have turned out before). I also think his group knows things would fall apart without the strong leader as well, which means they'll protect him so fiercely that he gets away with being careless. I'm sure we'll get some sort of origin story at some point, but until then I'm going with the belief that he didn't always act this way and his carelessness is a relatively new attitude which comes from the protection he's built around him. It may be his downfall in the end, but that's just because he's become too comfortable in a dangerous world.

Abraham had some great lines, but Negan makes them feel a lot more natural for whatever reason. Abraham's delivery was kind of awkward and sometimes it felt forced.

Except the carelessness is far beyond what anyone could protect. He comes to the gate with only himself in view. The group could have ended the saviors right then before even opening the gate. You might say that it would be a mistake to take that gamble, but I find it hard to believe that as far as this dude pushes people that someone hasn't taken that gamble before. He has absolutely no way of reading the entirety of Alexandria. He broke the people he met, but there are far more people there than just the ones he has broken.

I'm just trying to enjoy the show... if you don't nitpick every scene it's a lot more enjoyable to watch. His entrance was nothing more than a dramatic way to show his silhouette with the bat. I don't think you have to go into details about how exposed such an entrance would make him, given that it was only shot that way to look cool on camera.

What was that smoking pile that got Michonne all upset? I didn't get it.

I'm not sure if anybody's mentioned it yet, but it was their mattresses that Negan took

Apparently they didn't even need them since they just dumped them and burned them, which is an even shittier thing to do than they've already been doing.

It's alright, I figured it out on my own.

It was the MATTRESSES! They didn't even need them! So they burned them by the side of the road.

the body count in this episode has to be the lowest on the show yet...I recall 3 zombies (2 by Negan, 1 by Michonne). Unless....you count the burnt mattresses as casualties.

BTW- are we sure it was the mattresses that were burnt up?

I don't believe those were mattresses. If they were, I hope they didn't really burn any because that shit be toxic as hell when lit up.

On Talking dead they gave the mattresses a spot on the In Memoriam section.
