I liked TWD, but I was pretty disappointed in it. I grew up with the traditional adventure games (King's/Space Quest and the like) and TWD really isn't an adventure game. You never carry over items from one chapter to the next (except maybe the CB radio) and so there isn't really any puzzle solving to it. You find item A and use it in slot B; rinse and repeat. There weren't even really any combine item A + B in a creative way to solve it puzzles; it was all too straightforward for an adventure game. I wasn't expecting a Space Quest II "rub berries" level of difficulty, but if I find a green key in room A and then use it on the green door in room B, there's not much thinking to it. I never remember having more than 4 or 5 items in my inventory.

Add to that the fact that they touted the "your decisions affect gameplay" mantra which is true on a very, very minimal level. In the end, your choices don't make much of any difference.

One thing season 1 lacked (and I'm waiting on season 2 to be fully released and on sale) was rewarding you for smart/different choices. Something like hidden items/Easter eggs or something to reward the player for doing something "right/smart/evil". It was all very linear and storybook which made for a good story, but not for a good game. I never felt rewarded for doing something; all I did was advance the story by "turning the pages".

And it wasn't super-emotionally gripping to me because
I watch the TV show, so I figured that the protagonist would die; it wasn't a shock
. The voice acting was very well done, so that helped. Also, the timer on making your dialogue choices was a good touch that added tension to conversations. But, I wasn't blown away by it.

To me, it was a good "game" and I'll pick up the second season on sale, but it wasn't great.

I really didn't get on with this game at all, I was mostly just bored by it. The story isn't as compelling as a good book or movie and since there is so little game in it the whole experience was pretty holo for me. I didn't get very far before I had had enough.

This doesn't make any sense. So you watch the show, where the
protagonist doesn't die
, and somehow that makes you figure the game
would do the opposite?

I just finished episode one of Season Two. Liked it, bought the next to play tomorrow night. I wonder if/when The Wolf Among Us is coming to Android, I have yet to play it in hopes that it does.

Sorry for the huge spoiler tags...better safe than sorry.

Yeah, the MAIN protagonist in the t.v. series is still alive, but the show is famous for not being afraid to kill off main characters [like another popular HBO show]. Kirkman has come out and said "No character is too popular to die". So, once I started seeing the relationship between Lee and Clem develop, I was like, "Well, one of them is as good as dead". I figured that they'd be a little squeemish about killing a child, so I assumed Lee would bite it.

Granted, I didn't play it until all of the episodes were out and it went on sale on steam, so I heard a lot of stuff like the OP said, "It is so emotional" and so forth. So, even without spoilers, I figured that Lee would die. It's not because I'm a detective or anything, but when you have a game where an adult is trying to protect a young child in a life or death situation and people describe it as "Unbelievable....I have never had a more intense and emotion packed gaming experience in my entire life", it doesn't take a rocket scientist to assume that one of them isn't going to make it. <shrug>

Like I said, the voice acting was well done, but it just wasn't a huge shock to me, so there wasn't a "punch to gut", so to speak.

Have they gotten the save games to save in the steam cloud yet? I got to episode 2 (the farm), and then reformatted my PC. I want my decisions to carry over so I want to replay episode 1 just havent found the time. If I do, I'd like it if I can save my games in the cloud so they can follow me around, especially if I want to play on my laptop.

I loaded this game on my wife's iPad yesterday as she is a huge fan of the TV show. I booted it up to see what all the fuss was about. I can definitely see potential in the mood and atmosphere of the game, especially with headphones one. BUT.

The swipe controls just about drove me insane. Granted, I only messed with it for 20 minutes or so, but I had many instances where I would be swiping like a mad man and the game would just sit there with little to no movement. I almost threw the iPad at my dog after practically getting carpel tunnel trying to get to the damn shotgun in the very first zombie scene.

I was like:
*swipeswipeswipeswipeswipe*

"What the hell? Why can't I get the screen to rotate to the shotgun?"

*swipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipe*

"That zombie sure is getting close..."

*swipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipeswipe*

"Oh sh..."

RESTART GAME?

"ARGGGHHHH"

Any tips on how to swipe better on an iPad?

I agree with you regarding below, however didn't feel that it detracted much from the initial playthrough. I highly enjoyed Season 1 and am looking forward to more. That said, the real issue with the lack of difficulty and minimal true impact is that the game has little to no replay value. Each major plot point happens regardless of choice and often your choices barely change anything! Pick person A over B? Well now we'll just have the same thing happen to A in this scene that would have happened to B. Pretty bland, but the real damage is that this quickly ruins the magic as you realize that the plot is more on rails than you realize.

I still am glad I played Season 1 through and think it deserves an initial run by nearly anyone. It's a very enjoyable game, just with little replay value, almost negative replay value as it takes away from your initial !

So how much you lose if instead of playing the game you just watch it on Youtube (for free)?

I have watched many games on youtube due to mainly lack of time or genuine interest and played many games.

There's no substitute for playing this game, as others have said it's the better than tv show or game. The storyline really tugs at your emotions.

Yes, death is possible. The game is designed around emotions not violence though. It is far closer to a drama than a standard video game. It puts you in difficult situations with stressful relations with other people and forces you to make tough decisions. There is very little direct violence in the game.

EDIT: Since your wife likes this kind of game but doesn't like violence, I suggest To The Moon. It is very short, but is one of the most memorable games I have ever played. Hell, it is one of the most memorable things I have ever experienced.
Picked TTM up on Steam, thanks. I may even give it a whirl myself.

I forgot to warn you that the graphics are stylized 16 bit sprites. It looks like an SNES game, like Crono Trigger. It is the story that makes it good, the way it makes you really care about what happens is done very well. The music is excellent, and help draw you in. I have the song "For River" from the game, and play it whenever I want a pick me up.

Does this play better on console with gamepad or PC with mouse? Seems like a cinematic game and I have 42" TV vs 24" monitor.

I like using my Xbox controller on my PC. I did use and mouse and keyboard for a while on Season 1, and enjoyed the game more after picking up a wireless receiver for the xbox controller. That said I have never used kbm on Season 2.

Just finished season 2. Great ending to another good season.

I ended it with Jane. Kenny was really starting to rub me the wrong way.

And holy shit, I totally didn't expect Mike, Bonnie and the Russian kid to sneak off like that.

That flashback/dream of Lee bummed me out. It made me remember what a great character he was in Season 1.

Did anyone else turn the family away at the end? I'm guessing I'll probably regret that in season 3 if they come back.

Just picked up season 1, and probably going to buy season 2 tonight because it's currently 60% off. I have heard good things about this game, so I'm pretty pumped to start it.

I went solo at the end.

I could not forgive Jane for making me kill off a character that I had so much emotional attachment with, it broke my heart. I miss Kenny.

When I had the dream/flashback of Lee I was almost in tears, he was such a great character. Watching himtake care of Clementine was painful knowing that he was gone...

Funny, looks the three of us ended up on different paths.

I ended up with Kenny walking into the forest.

What somewhat ticked me off though was for the first time in both games it lost my save. So I had to start Episode 5 with the defaults. Who knows if it made a difference.

But given how different the endings can be it will be interesting how they handle season 3.

Wow that's at least 3 hugely separate stories/endings there.
I look at her egging Kenny on and while I wanted them to shut up. Wasn't really happy with Jane hiding the baby to trick Kenny. But I knew she was right. Kenny unless he could be alone in the middle of nowhere with the baby, he was going to explode. That the person "responsible" for anything to happen to the baby was going to get their ass kicked or worse and even Clem wasn't safe from it. That baby was Duck, his wife, his GF and even innocent Clem rolled into one.

So back at Carvers with Jane and the new Family.

Finished season two this weekend.

I could tell something was up with Jane the second she said "Watch this" when she implied that she killed the baby. I stood back and let the two fight it out....I was going to shoot her when you got the gun, but it didn't give you that option, so I let Kenny kill her Saving Private Ryan Waffen SS style. Even Kenny said something about it by saying "What the hell....she wanted a fight! You saw her, all she had to do was say the kid was alright!"

Ending was very sad, we got to the town that Kenny and Christa had talked about, and Kenny sacrificed himself so that you and the kid could get in, and he was left to wander around alone.

Surprised so many people killed Kenny due to the stats at the end. Jane was trouble.
