Even worse news now for the WiiU. The PS4 has already passed it in sales despite the WiiU having a year head start and sales dropped off huge as well.

Nintendo reports third consecutive annual loss as Wii U sales fizzle out

Makes sense. IMO dedicated home consoles are for the "hardcore gamer."

Wii U is cool, but not for the hardcore. more than the PS4, the iPad is probably eating the Wii U's lunch.

I'll have some money burning a hole in my pocket very soon, so what better way to use it than with a new gaming system? At this point the Wii U has many more games that interest me than either the PS4 or XB1. I think I'll be picking one up pretty soon.

I think I'll be picking one up soon too... if I ever move into my house!

If i had spare money, I would totally consider a Wii U. However, I'd be on the fence deciding between a Wii U or pre-orders on a slew of One games, like The Division, Halo, Dying Light, and so on. There are enough games coming out on the One in the second-half of 2014 that I could spend $300 on them.

They should be working on a wii u that just comes with a pro controller, right now. Just announce that you'll work on menuing systems for current games that require the tablet. Outsource the development for that to a developer for relatively little.

Release it at $200 with a game and they'll sell a ton. Especially once there are two different 3d mario worlds...

Amazon.ca has the Mario Kart Deluxe bundle up for pre-order. It's selling for $350. Since Nintendo hasn't increased console prices in Canada, I assume that's how much it will cost in the States. So $50 more for a Wiimote and plastic steering wheel.

I did check Amazon.com and they don't have it listed yet.

How is it 3 games? You get the console and Nintendoland for $200 and Mario Kart 8, where's the third game?

Plus, Nintendoland doesn't interest many people, I don't think. That's not to call it bad, but when people are planning to get a Wii U, I don't think it's for that. If it was a refurb and 3 games I cared about, then you're in "worth it" territory, because you're talking about $130 for the console and $50 per game. Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros. U, and another I couldn't name right now, and I'd be thinking about it.

What I'd probably do is see if my sister and brother-in-law like it, and let them keep it, but pay for part or something, then play when I go over there.

I think he's talking about the free game download that you get for registering Mario Kart 8 early.

If you buy mario kart & register it before june 31st, you'll get a free download New super mario brothers u, or a few others (not 3d world, though). That makes 3.

Ars posted an article on how they'd save Nintendo.
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/05/how-wed-save-nintendo/

Nothing really profound here though still worth a read.

One thing they did bring up about the Wii U is that it's a jumbled mess of a console, and the controller is one of the biggest problems. Bulky, low battery life, and doesn't really work well for local multiplayer. That Nintendo tried to cram too much into it using a spray and pray design philosophy. That the systems aren't as innovative as people think they are, citing that most GameCube, Wii, and Wii U games would have played just as well on Xbox or PlayStation. Or rather Nintendo's hardware wasn't critical to the experience, save a handful of Wii games that did properly utilize the motion controller.

A lot of people are now agreeing that Nintendo should stop using gimmicks and stick to a more traditional control scheme.

I want Mario Kart 8 sooooooo damn bad. Nothing on PS4/One interest me in the slightest and whatever is coming down the pipeline has a PC version.

$260 for Wii U 32GB, Nintendoland, Mario Kart 8, and Mario Bros. U is a hell of a deal I think. Plus Smash Bros is coming as well as Bayonetta 2.

So I just went through the Wii U games list on amazon...

Bleh.

The Wii U will be pretty groovy to own when it's obsolete and games are being sold for like $8. Hopefully N will still be in business...

Where do you people find the time? lol. Money isn't the issue for me..it's time vs cost. I could afford everything, but no way have the time to play everything. I have actively been saying no to sales simply because of the backlog. If I bought everything now, it would just be sitting collecting dust like everything else.

Right now I'm trying to catch up on my PS2 collection

Heh...I feel you on the games list. There are a couple good ones there but a lot of the same old crap and honestly not enough of a selection.

So true, man.

Wonder if there's a way to hook a GC controller to the Wii U. I really liked that controller...

Ehh, I don't have an issue now (especially with school almost out), as far as time is concerned. However, there are SO MANY games out between about August and next spring that IDK how I'll make time for them.

Of course it is backward compatible and I do just happen to have a backlog of old wii games which...were never played through. Though I really wish they had built in GC compatibility. I am a fan of mario sunshine.

The Wii was released in 2006 and in 2007 mario galaxy comes out.

Gamecube in 2001, 2002 Mario Sunshine

Wii U 2012...2014...2015....

There is a 3rd party adapter for it that allows it to plug into a Wiimote and emulate a Classic Controller Pro.
