I have a couple of updates on the Tripper:
1. The Wink application on my Nexus 7 (Android 4.4) DOES show Tripper activity logs. I would think you'd see two entries for each event (one OPEN event and one CLOSE event), but that doesn't seem to be the case. It is only logging one of the events (not sure which; I'll have to test more). I do not see this same log information on the iOS version (iPad 4 running iOS 8.1), however.
2. One Tripper is showing low battery already (what the heck?!?!). I've had it in use only for a few days. For those of you who don't know, I have the Trippers mounted to monitor two of my garage doors. With testing and normal use, it may have seen 20 - 30 open/close cycles. The report is either faulty or I'll have to swap batteries soon; I think I'll keep an eye on it to see if the battery really does die. I find it really hard to believe it is really low. I did drop that Tripper a couple of times during testing but it still reports accurately.
Yeah, it sounds like they need to put in a temp value for recording the last state...so if it was Open before, it switches to Closed. For management, I'd like to see 2 options:
1. Initial setup: define as "Switch On or Switch Off" in terms of whether the Tripper is on (closed) or off (open) for basic status tracking, and also have it have a historical log for "hey the door is open" or "the door is closed" based on the last value & initial setup of putting the sensor in a door-closed state with the door actually closed after installation.
2. Running setup: if it does get a misfire, like if you shut the door to trip the switch without locking the door or whatever, you can reset the state to be Door Open or Door Closed, so you can reverse it if you need to.
I am still disappointed in door lock integration. I'm not going to spend $200 on a smart lock that isn't fully integrated into the system. For starters, stuff like controlling the PIN number & other features, as others have mentioned, as well as for integration, like having the Tripper identify the door as closed and the deadbolt as locked, so you can get a "house secure" status when you check it on your phone.
I'm still considering where to go in the future in terms of hardware purchases. I'm leaning, despite the name, towards the Okidokeys system, even though it doesn't have Wink integration. The Lutron lights can be controlled from their own app, as well as their Sivoia blinds. Music would be separate anyway using an Airplay-based system with Spotify, my iPhone's Music app, and Airfoil on my computer. I like the Honeywell Wifi Thermostat (the rectangle color touchscreen unit with the easy interface), which is also standalone. My Foscam gear is standalone as well. So there wouldn't be any integration with the Wink in an individual-tool kind of setup, but it's not that hard to flip apps, and it's not like I'd be dimming the lights while lowering the shades while locking the door while turning on some music & checking the webcam all the time anyway.
