Hmm, that's an interesting thought. It should be thin enough to still work, too, and the material should transfer the signal just fine. At worst, you're out $20 (if you only dip a single pair). I've dipped other stuff with good results, don't see why it wouldn't work!

Yeah, I went ahead and ordered another set of Trippers and a couple of small project boxes instead of the plastidip. I may try the plastidip at some point but wanted to be a little more conventional on this attempt. If this all goes well, I may order a third set of Trippers - one for my exterior double gates and another for my mailbox. The set I ordered today will go on my third garage door (other two have Trippers) and on the single exterior gate.

I am starting to think that with my limited uses for home automation, Wink might be fine. Here are some things I'd like to see:

1. I'm hoping the new version of Spotter gets good reviews and works well, as I could really use it and especially the light sensor part. Anyone know of a cheap light sensor to use now?
2. I'd like to see the robot logic expanded and allow for more conditions.
3. Timer logic, so if a motion detector detects motion, it will set a timer and turn lights off at the end of the countdown if no additional motion is detected.
4. I need to look into switch options a little more because in order to really sell this thing to the wife, we need to be able to control lights from both switches and apps. I really need to look into some of the switch options but most of my switches are dual switchplate and 3-way switches. Any recommendations?

We're going on vacation in a few weeks and I think that will be time for me to install a couple of GE bulbs in rooms downstairs and have Wink put them on timers to simulate us being home.

Wouldn't it be great if they let you set a timer based on sunrise/sunset? That way you could go on a LONG vacation and simulate being home.

They definitely need timer functionality and asap. I should be able to have a rule on my motion sensor that says something to the effect of:

If motion detected, turn on lights for 5 minutes.

My motion sensor resets after 4 minutes so ideally, if motion is detected in that 4-5 minute period, it should trip the rule again and keep the lights on.

For those in iOS testflight, the 3.0 App adds sunrise/sunset values for Robots. It also adds the ability to add groups to shortcuts or robots. And it adds an "All Lights" option in the lighting section. Finally one button to hop out of bed and totally blind myself!

I upgraded the bulbs in our nursery to Philips Hue this weekend. We rent so really can't paint, but I can light paint the room now. The part that really sticks out to me is that it seems the hue do local processing. You push the button in the Hue app and the light responds instantly; not the second or two delay from Wink. The difference is really noticeable now.

I really like the concept of the Lutron Caseta switches. I only have one & it died (it's been like a month or two & I still haven't taken it apart to see what the issue is :biggrin, and I don't like the flat buttons at all, BUT - (1) it's Wink-controllable, and (2) it has the amazing Pico remotes, which you can use as remote controls or stick in a faux wallplate for a wireless switch anywhere you want, which is a really really big deal imo. Downside is the switch (with remote) is $60 - each:

http://www.amazon.com/Lutron-P-PKG1W-WH-Wireless-600-watt-Multi-Location/dp/B00JJY0S4G/

It also has this special feature:

The Pico can replace an existing 3-way switch when paired with a Caséta Wireless dimmer, as well as attach anywhere on a wall with a screw less wall plate to add an additional point of control.

Plus, it has a variety of lighting support:

* 600w incandescent
* 600w halogen
* 150w dimmable CFL
* 150w dimmable LED

Extra remotes (with wallmount plate) are $24:

http://www.amazon.com/Lutron-PJ2-WALL-WH-L01-Remote-Control-Mounting/dp/B00JR202JQ/

Right now, that is my recommendation if you want a Wink-compatible wallswitch.

I had extensive damage from ice dams this winter & just got the insurance estimate yesterday; it looks like they are going to replace all of the windows (plus some walls & other damaged stuff, it was pretty bad!). I have really crappy windows with zero insulation right now, so given the choice, I'm going to go with Pella so I can get both Low-E glass & Insynctive motorized blinds for Wink compatibility:

http://insynctive.pella.com/motorized-blinds/between-the-glass-blinds-shades

Unfortunately the Impervia line isn't available with Insynctive, but the Designer series is. But, I'm currently into a small condo with an HOA (ugh), so I'm not sure if any of the Designer series windows will fit in with the exterior requirements (currently have horizontal sliders). If not, I'll try to go with the Impervia & do the in-room blinds, although if I do that, it may be better to go with a Somfy RTS system. All depends on what the budget is & what gets approved

Agree with all Kaido says about Lutron Caseta. Also, even the main wired switch works without a neutral. Faux wall plates for the remote are about $6. By careful shopping, I've found the combo switch + remote (wall plate for switch, no bracket for the remote) for about $48 shipped. Various ebay sellers.

Ouch, good luck. Insurance replaced my roof last year and I got some "great news" yesterday that I'm probably going to have to spend a few thousand on some wood replacement in an area where a contractor did some repairs last fall but didn't bother mentioning to me that the underlying wood behind the fascia boards was rotten. The moron just nailed the fascia boards back up and painted them. Grrrrrr

Hey folks,

I'm new to GitHub, so figuring this out as I go. I found a way to add a compiled, mostly-ready-to-run version of my WinkAtHome webpage.

You will still need IIS to run it in Windows, but it's included in almost all versions of windows for free. Uploading a compiled version removes the need for you to also install Visual Studio and mess with it there.

Now, you just install IIS, then unzip the compiled download file into a directory and it should run with minimal effort.

Link are here...

For what it's worth, my whole house is filled with Lutrons (like 20 something of them). No issues to report. No failures either. I love them.

Wow that stinks! I'd really like to build a home someday, and I want to use ICF blocks (concrete)...no wood! Haha.

Yeah, I was only planning on staying in this place until the end of the year, then moving again, but this upgrade might spruce the place up enough to hang onto it, especially if I can do a full suite of automated blinds. Knowing how insurance works, I'll probably end up with Saran wrap for windows :biggrin:

I'm on the beta and it seems that the only way to use a schedule is through robots or did I miss something?

If you're running Chrome, there's an extension called ARC Welder that will allow you to run an Android App(and only one at a time) from Chrome. You need to place the APK file in a folder on the PC and install the extension. Start ARC Welder and select the APK(com.quirky.android.wink.wink-9.apk). You'll then be asked whether you want to run as a phone app, portrait or landscape, etc. Then just click to run the app. The Wink app seems fully functional.

I am going to order 2 "Sensors" to work with the Wink Hub so that I can integrate them into my Tasker and Web page projects.

Anyone have suggestions on know-working sensors? I'm not really interested on "might theoretically work" at this point, just "It Works With Wink"

I'm thinking a Tripper and an EcoLink Motion Sensor (PIRZWAVE2-ECO).

Obviously the Tripper works, and I've seen numerous reports of the ecolink working.

Has anyone used a "multi-sensor" successfully with wink?

Maybe skip both of those and just go for the GoControl?

All I know for a fact is that the Everspring HSP02 Z-wave sensors do not work with Wink.

There is full scheduling capability in the Wink App. From the Lights list, tap the three dots in the upper right corner, scroll down to Schedule (the last item, in iOS at least.)

Hope this helps!

Yeah, I also have the EcoLink motion sensor and it works fine, though I am not using it for much at the moment. Glad to hear about tripper support, as I have two on my garage doors and will be adding one to my third garage door and outside gate. After that, maybe another set on my outside double gate and mailbox. I'm getting pretty crazy here!

D'oh I actually forgot that even existed. These really should be consolidated into the same area as the robots and such in my opinion.

Thanks for that!
