Hmm, that's an interesting thought. It should be thin enough to still work, too, and the material should transfer the signal just fine. At worst, you're out $20 (if you only dip a single pair). I've dipped other stuff with good results, don't see why it wouldn't work!
Yeah, I went ahead and ordered another set of Trippers and a couple of small project boxes instead of the plastidip. I may try the plastidip at some point but wanted to be a little more conventional on this attempt. If this all goes well, I may order a third set of Trippers - one for my exterior double gates and another for my mailbox. The set I ordered today will go on my third garage door (other two have Trippers) and on the single exterior gate.
I am starting to think that with my limited uses for home automation, Wink might be fine. Here are some things I'd like to see:
1. I'm hoping the new version of Spotter gets good reviews and works well, as I could really use it and especially the light sensor part. Anyone know of a cheap light sensor to use now?
2. I'd like to see the robot logic expanded and allow for more conditions.
3. Timer logic, so if a motion detector detects motion, it will set a timer and turn lights off at the end of the countdown if no additional motion is detected.
4. I need to look into switch options a little more because in order to really sell this thing to the wife, we need to be able to control lights from both switches and apps. I really need to look into some of the switch options but most of my switches are dual switchplate and 3-way switches. Any recommendations?
We're going on vacation in a few weeks and I think that will be time for me to install a couple of GE bulbs in rooms downstairs and have Wink put them on timers to simulate us being home.
