No Dave they are using US Network. Too many Winkers and they should propably update their servers farm and get a bigger pipe for their Internet of the Things....

Lots of people are buying the HUB
When Google Play has between 50k and 100k download for Wink App and not counting IOS then a lot of Hub need to get served by the Cloud servers.

Here at my local Home Depot Hub Stock is rolling regularly, I take note of the Serial and MFG date and it is changing every visit.

One of my friend on North Shore of Montreal saw a full skid of WInk Hub at his H.D.

So we can expect some lags until they fix their cloud computer farm and get decent 100M pipe or more.

I deal every day with bandwith on my VOIP and SIP call centers.

Realistically they should provide a means to use the device without the cloud on a local network, and only use the cloud for updates to device status when not connected to local wifi on a phone or tablet.

It is in everyone's best interest to have config information stored locally on the hub. Less lag for users, everything works without internet when you are on your local network, and less servers and bandwidth needed by Wink to make it all work.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm new here.

I came to look for an answer to my question, which I will ask, but figured I'd post a project I built.

I'm not sure how many folks are using Tasker on an Android device, but if you are, I wrote a project to Voice Control the Wink. Yes, this is selfish promotion

goo . gl / 2WMND9 (Take the spaces out of that to make it work)

Now the question I came, hoping to get answered...

I have a ton of Insteon stuff in my house. I've been building the system for close to a decade. I picked up the Wink Hub during the $.99 promo at Home Depot and I've been loving it.

At this point I only have a Leviton outlet, a Lutron Caseta dimmer, and a Schlage.
After several month using the hub, I am satisfied I like it enough to start replacing the majority of my basic Insteon stuff. One of the things I'm stuck on is virtual 3-way circuits. I know you can buy the Linear WT500Z/WS15Z and a WT00Z to make it 3-way. I'm just curious if anyone has gotten this setup to work with the Wink?

I've seen very few things that said it doesn't work, but none that absolutely say it does.

Has anyone here tried it?

Also, does anyone know if the WR00Z will control a GE 12722/12724?

Thanks for the info, and check out my Voice Controlled Wink!

trunzoc, I don't know what you mean by a virtual 3-way circuit. I'm sure people are tired of me raving about Lutrons, but they have a really simple setup to replace 3 way light circuits and still have dimming capability.

You install the actual Lutron dimmer in one wall box, and then you use wire nuts to close the circuit in the other wall box. Then you mount a Lutron PICO remote (they come with most dimmers) over that closed circuit box. (You can get PICO mounts on Amazon and, when finished, they look similar to the other Lutron wall switches, with faceplates and all.)

PICO remotes paired with Lutron dimmers work independently of an internet connection. You match the remote to the dimmer in Wink, and that's the last time Wink hears from the remote unless you want to change things. From there on the remote talks directly to the dimmer.

PS: This is Mike Nelson from your Google+ thread. Many of us on this thread have found and talked about your Tasker Voice Control. This thread is where I found out about it!

Anyone have experience with GE Z-wave switches?

Levitons run anywhere from $50 to $70 for a single switch up to a single dimmer.

Lutrons starts at $55 I believe for a single switch along with a remote...still have to buy the wall plate and mounting bracket so basically $70 for a 3 way.

GE's seem to be relatively cheap in price starting at $40-45 for a single switch....looking to expand so I'm trying to figure out if its worth it to go with one of the more expensive brands.

I just replaced a lutron caseta and installed a GE 45637 from lowes. It's paired with my ST hub so I don't anticipate any problems. If you are looking to buy some you should by them right now as they are on sale. They are $34.99 but if you buy 4 they knock off 10% and there is a $20 off $100 lowes coupon code floating around. I just picked up 4 for ~$28 each with tax.

Tech_Greek (and anyone who has asked, really), I'd feel weird about posting on their beta forums saying "Hey, you should invite this guy to be a beta tester. I don't know him, but he said he wanted to on a user forum."

I don't know what their process is for choosing beta testers, but in general, I'm not going to recommend people. Others can do what they want, but it just isn't my job to recruit others to their testing team.

It was just a joke, I get paid to test things, I don't want to do it for free for them. :awe:

I first want to say thank you for your work with wink and tasker. I bought a cheap android phone just for the purpose of running tasker and your project to control some timer functions and it has worked great.

To answer your switch question I am not sure what a WR00Z is. I looked and could not find any info on it. I can vouch for this setup http://www.amazon.com/GE-Wireless-Li...ords=ge+z+wave which is a GE wave switch and a companion switch set. I have installed it and it worked great with wink. I think that is what you are asking. I am positive a similar setup with a linear switch would work also.

Are you sure you wired them correctly? I've got a house full of Lutrons and haven't experienced any failures or burn-ups. I've never seen anything even remotely close to having them arc on power up...

Well anything is possible, but after they arc'ed I installed my insteon's back and they worked fine. Then about a week later I started replacing them with the Levitons and they have all worked fine.

The Lutron's were actually simpler to install than both the insteon and the Leviton so not sure how I could have hooked them up wrong . They did not require neutral like insteon or leviton. Again maybe I got 2 bad ones..who knows.

I wish they would have worked as my den overhead lights are on a 4 way circuit and it would have been a lot easier with the pico remotes to install over the Levitons.

What do you mean by virtual 3 way? Do you mean do a 3/4 way circuit without needing all the physical wires? Like insteon does or something else?

If you mean like insteon, then yes some Z wave switches can do it very similar to insteon. Not sure about linear but leviton and ge can.

The Leviton's work much like insteon,

EX Insteon remotes require hot and neutral to do a 3/4 way, where as the leviton's require Neutral and traveler to do 3/4 way. But still only 2 wires like insteon.

I am the guy that drove you crazy with the tasker questions btw

Hey Mike! I do have 1 setup with a Lutron Caseta/Pico installed in the house. Thing is I have a couple situations where I really don't need/want a dimmer. I guess I can just go that route. It's $60 for the Lutron, and slightly more for a Linear pair. So guess I might as well stick with the Lutron. My main concern is compatibility. Wink works with the Caseta stuff, but if I ever decide to go with a more robust controller like a Vera, I don't think I'd be able to control the Lutron as opposed to the Linear or GE.

A couple of the places i want to replace are wired for a real 3-way, so I could a GE setup for that, but a few more are virtual. Meaning that I have an Insteon switch on the load side, and another Insteon switch somewhere else without having the traveler wire. The Insteons are linked to each other so act as a 3-way without the need to run a 3-conductor wire.

The WR00Z was a typo. Shoulda been WT00Z.

I like the option because I can create a 3-way where there currently isn't a traveler wire installed. I know the WT500Z and the WT00Z work together, buy you need a controller that can issue "Association" commands. I'm not sure if the Wink can or not, so trying to find someone that has actually done it.

I've also read that most Z-Wave switches can been controlled from a motion sensor, but that not all can be controlled by another switch. That's what I was trying to find out about the GEs.

What's your username over in the G+ thread I have going?

I don't know if the Linear zwaves can. but other Zwave switches can. I have Leviton's doing a 4 way and I have read GE/Jasco's can do the same. So probably is what I would say.

Sorry about the Fletchb. I had some personal stuff throwing me off over the weekend and was a bit more "Diva" than I usually am. Come on back. Shoot me a Hangout through G+ and we'll get your stuff working.

I didn;t realize I had a following on another forum. hehe. EGOBOOST!

I highly doubt that you are going to get that association command that is needed from the wink system. The best option as others have said would probably be the lutron switches. You can easily add a pico switch cheaply anywhere you want a switch.

My username with G+ is the same as here. I have not posted though. Got it working to my needs without any questions so I never found a need to say anything.

Lutrons (specifically the wireless standard ClearConnect) works far too well to be ignored by future hubs, IMO. At least I hope so. It's just a very well made standard and Lutron needs to push it harder to compete with Z-Wave & Zigbee.

At the very least, future hubs should be able to talk to the Lutron Bridge. I know the new Harmony Hub already does. So does Staples' hub. There's already evidence that Clear Connect is becoming a must-have for newer hubs. Smartthings V2 will probably define it though. I'd be really surprised if Smartthings leaves out ClearConnect again.

NP I had just downloaded tasker on Saturday afternoon and know I was being a pest trying to get it going as I was driving my girlfriend crazy too.

But it's working fine now.

Now trying to learn how to create my own tasks to respond to robots etc.

Keep up the good work!

I just noticed that after updating the MyQ app that I can no longer access the MyQ Garage with the MyQ app in Android, IOS, or the Web, but I can still access it via the Wink app. A call to Chamberlain said this is by design. I know that I use to be able to use both apps before. Anyone else notice this?

Not sure why you would want to access it by 2 apps but I would imagine this would cause conflicting commands and crosstalk in the comms to and from the device

I just tried from the wink app and the myQ app on my iPhone and both are working fine for me.

Is there a way to add a generic Zigbee product to wink? I would like to add the Leaksmart (getleaksmart.com) water valve. Both smartthings and iris support the valve. Thanks

Hmm, this sounds vaguely familiar.

How's the watch working out?

Hi!

The watch is good

I started with a Moto 360 but returned it for absolutely horrid battery life. Got a G Watch R instead.

I like using it tor Voice Control lights as I'm walking towards a room. It's stupid, silly, and lazy, but I can, so for now I do. I'm sure it'll get old before the weekend is over.

Do you love Wink?
Are you a developer familiar with JS, jQuery and other web coding skills?
Do you wish there was a web based control panel for Wink?

Look no further: https://github.com/davidgruhin/WinkPost

I am looking for a couple of devs to help get this really rocking.

This is a fork of William Beam's original project https://plus.google.com/115743072068151821173/posts

I have added in Bootstrap to make it responsive and designed a dashboard interface.

I am looking for a backend dev to work on the API portion to break the devices out by type in to different tables (currently one big table). Add access to Groups and Shortcuts via API. List robots, and activity as well.

Basically extend the current project to include every possible aspect of the Current Wink API: http://docs.wink.apiary.io/

I will continue to work on the Frontend UI aspects. If you are interested hop on the Github project.

Thanks,
David
