my wink APP says HUB UPDATE REQUIRED. My remote is still working on the old app - so I will remain in holding zone to see how everyone else responds to the update.

ANDROID USERS

Just over at winkworkshop.com and saw this post - thought you all would like the update.

According to AE7HF

"ANDROID USERS HOLD OFF DO NOT UPGRADE.
Just got off the phone with them and a supervisor.. This is NOT working correctly for Android yet. You can not update the user codes. it doesn’t work.
I just left this on their facebook page.. I’m really getting upset with Wink. Spent a lot of money on this stuff and it’s not ready.
SERIOUSLY.. I’M PISSED.. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER Wink I just installed this, updated the hub, everything.. the LOCK does NOT work. Now I was just told by Tech support that it’s NOT supported yet on ANDROID!!! WTF!. the app has crashed 5 times while in the lock portion. I CAN NOT add new codes.. it doesn’t work. it never gets to the lock. I can turn on the auto relock after 30 seconds.. I can see the number of codes in there, I can change the names of them. I can’t add new ones. You go through the process to add one, name it, etc. it eventually shows in the app.. but never gets to the lock. .it doesn’t work! They had me delete my whole app.. I cleared the cache, removed settings, then uninstalled.. I re downloaded it from the play store.. same thing.. doesn’t work. In fact, I’m having trouble even locking and unlocking my lock now.. very lock delay. even failed once. never had that problem before. I’m spent over $2k in stuff (ok, hue is in there too).. finally I got so frustrated with the GE Links and Wink I took them out.. They are on the hue hub and working great there. I was really expecting this Wink update for the lock.. MyNexia works perfect with them.. this does not. Now I’m being told from a supervisor that that function isn’t supported on Android yet, but it is on iOS?? WTF! Why release the app then if it’s not ready???? seriously.. I’ve been patient, very patient. Not cool."

I doubt very much if I will EVER trust Wink to control my door locks or garage door! Screwing up lights and the like is a nuisance, but door security is serious!

I have the MYQ and I will say that I like it. It has only goofed up once (and I think it was my fault for pushing the close button too many times in a row).

EDIT 3-17-15 OK updated hub and the MYQ and wink interlink told me the garage door was open when in fact it was closed. I will chalk it up to hub update this morning (at least I hope that's what it was)

What exactly is polling?? Thx

Here is an example : Saturday morning I turned on my overhead light via the Wink app. The wink app showed the light was on like it should and what you would expect. The gf and I had to go out of town and as we were walking out the door I turned off the light via the switch and NOT via the app. In other words we manually turned it off via the wall switch.

That evening as we were getting close to town we stopped off to eat dinner. It was getting dark so we decided to turn back on the light so our little dog and cat would not be in the dark.

Because I had turned off the light via the switch, The wink app still showed the light as ON even though we knew it was off.

What polling does is tell Wink when someone turns off the light manually at the switch, so it won't show incorrect status if that makes sense.

You can do other things with it but that is the simple explanation.

I just updated and it does work, though robots (the other things ) do not work yet.

When my hub was at 0.56, I had VERY unreliable pairing with Z-Wave devices. Updated the app this morning and the hub to 0.77 and pairing a couple of switches went much much better. The test will be if the pairing persists for more than a few days, which it has not in the past.

Also looking forward to pairing a PIR and tilt sensor to see if that's any better. Never have been able, even temporarily, to get them to talk to the hub.

I wonder if this is just one of those scenarios where a single users has ALL kinds of problems with Wink in general...have not see any other complaints thus far about lack of functionality with the newest update.

I see you call your hub Marvin. I assume after the Martian?
I call mine Kevin. I had a cat named Kevin that was a huge pain in the A$$, much like my Wink hub!
I hope this update fixes some of the issues we were all having.

Marvin is on the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. He is the depressed robot and at one point says I can't do anything right. I felt that's what my wink hubs personality would match for some reason.

Marvin: I've been talking to the main computer.
Arthur: And?
Marvin: It hates me.

I think so. I've had no issue with anything and specifically, my Schlage works exactly as it did before.

Some of the new Schlage features work, so don't, but basic lock/unlock as well as physical PIN input still work.

In the last 2 weeks or so my GE Link bulbs (I have 2) light up by themselves mid day. I am not able to turn them off from the wink app and wink support's solution is to reset them and pair them again. I already did it for each and for a couple of days it behaves and then get stuck in the ON state again.
Reset and re-pair is a pain since I need to redefine all my schedules and robots.

Anyone else?

Thanks!

I have a GE Link bulb that was on full yesterday morning. I haven't been able to reset it. I've tried the 1-2-3 reset about 10 times (on/off about 20 times each try). No luck yesterday or today so far to get this bulb to play nice. Any ideas?

I can confirm after the update that the new schlage features don't work for me (android.) I see pretty much what he described, you can add codes, name codes and see codes but they don't actually work. If I try to turn on auto-lock or any of the new settings you just get a loading spinner in the app forever.

The good news is I didn't lose any functionality though. Both my schlage locks still work using wink and with physical keypad entry. That's pretty ridiculous if they released the app on accident and don't actually have it working yet.

The rest of my setup seems to be humming along just fine. I'll know more once some of the lighting schedules kick in a few hours from now.

Yup, all of my Levitt outlets are now also showing up as question marks too! Not only that, but this update still didn't change the icon for the outlet. It still shows (or at least used to show) as a light bulb! Come on, really? How difficult would it have been to add an extra snippet of code and a png of an outlet???

Come on Freddie, there's at least six months of meetings that need to happen to do that! Or at least thats the excuse most companies give now heh.

I ended up having to delete some lights and re-add them but they were problematic in the first place with so so response here lately. The adding process was bugged in the sense it would error but the light wouldn't add. The flood light added successfully (may have been server over load at this point from updates today).

Snazzy new graphics when adding bulbs, deleting devices is still broken as far as I can tell. Delete the device, reset device, error out on add but see it, delete it one more time then reset it one more time then add it again.

Is there a firmware upgrade for the bulbs that is downloaded at any point? Some bulbs seem to be responding much faster than they did before (uniform now moreso).

I've accepted the flood light not working until it triggers (thanks to it being motion activated) so no big deal there.

They really need to explain the icon and maybe offer a procedure to reset or troubleshoot.

The lights remember the brightness now when you turn them off with Wink and turn them back on for sure. Polling seems pretty consistent (some random delays but that's expected at this point).

Getting there in stability to be considered purchasable by me but not quite yet.

With the new app update I can say the new schlage functions on Android work for me

I think I found the problem. I have 2 schlage locks, the first one shows active codes correctly, the second one doesn't. I had only tried adding a code to the second one. The bug could be that it isn't handling more than one schlage setup correctly.

[edit] To clarify the new features work great on lock #1, nothing works for lock #2. They are identical models.

Hey Tech_Geek,

Is your food lights GE Link bulbs? I tried that also and had the same issue. Now i have normal LED floods and put a Leviton switch on it. With polling it works great, turns on with movement.

Major screw up just happened for me after the update. For whatever reason this afternoon, ALL of my Leviton outlets have been, and are being ignored by the hub.

The first indication there was a problem was the icon for the device went grey and had a question mark in it's place. After excluding and re-adding the outlet to the hub, the app recognized it and was able to control it...once! After one power cycle, the icon went grey and the hub lost control of the outlet. Now the only problem is is that the hub doesn't even recognize the outlet so I can exclude the device! Where all of my outlet icons used to be, there is nothing but greyed out question marks that cannot be removed! Ugh...

Obviously this is going to require a call to tech support to clean up. My only worry is that support is going to reset the hub and I'll need to start this whole process over again for every bulb, switch and outlet I have! I suspect that if that is the case (needing to scrub the hub and start back at square one), there is a good possibility I'm just going to pull the plug on Wink and wait for ST v2.

I really only want a home automation system that works. I did not need, nor sign up for a new hobby that frustrates the hell out of me. I play golf for that!
