Has anyone had much luck with generic z-wave devices? I had no issue setting up some GE bulbs and my Schlage lock, but no luck with a z-wave CA3750 Intermatic switch to run my pool pump.

I was able to get a ZXT-120US to control my Daikin split system heat pump. It required a separate z-wave remote to configure it first, but that was probably specific to the ZXT-120US. I do remember it was a PITA to get working on the Wink, but once configured, it has worked flawlessly.

This isn't going to be much - or any - help, but I have an Intermatic PE653/5043 Z-Wave controller. I haven't found the courage or time to pair it to my Wink. Getting to your first question, I have had such horrible failure on simple generic Z-Wave sensors and switches that I'm not ready to chance my pool controller to Wink.

Most of what I have is "unapproved" Z-wave stuff. Some of it was a little bit of a pain to get to pair initially and you don't necessarily get all of the functionality but don't think that I've had anything that I couldn't get to work at all yet.

How are you trying to pair it? Did you try excluding it first and then trying to include?

I picked up a Schlage lock yesterday. The zero-degree temperatures finally got the best of my ancient deadbolt, so I needed a same-day replacement. Works pretty good! Pricey at $199, but it does have a lot of features:

1. Key
2. Number pad
3. Z-wave (with Wink support for lock & unlock)

The keypad is fairly dim in the bright sun. You can pretty much guess at where the numbers are, or just shield your hand over it if needed. However, my only real complaint is how cheap the electronics inside look, specifically the battery connector. The whole setup feels like a cheap Chinese R/C car that you get from the drugstore...it has a pull-out plastic tray for the batteries with a little 9V-style connector plug. It would be VERY easy to accidentally rip the battery connector wire harness out of the unit. The connector is pretty snug once you put it on, so you have to be extra-careful when removing it to pull out the battery tray not to rip those wires out:

Other than that, everything is peachy so far! Looks really nice & operation is easy. To leave the house, you unlock the door, shut it from the outside, and press the Schlage button, which locks the door with the motor. To enter, press the Schlage button again & the keypad lights up (or use a key or Z-wave). Inside the house, just manually turn the deadbolt knob to lock. I'll see how it does over the next week with my Wink system.

Batteries died today. They've been going for a couple weeks now - most noticeably, the Schlage logo that activates the keypad (or locks the door) was having trouble with responding. I wanted to see if it was the batteries, so I let it drain down to empty & yup, it was the batteries, not a touchpad that went bad. So that lasted from February to July, which was a good six months with plenty of uses. I currently have multiple housemates, so the lock gets used at least ten times a day on average, probably double that on weekends. I'm pretty happy with the battery life...swapping out the batteries twice a year with standard AA batteries is pretty low-maintenance. Only glitch was that I still haven't bothered to cut myself a key, and fortunately someone was home to let me in since the batteries died today

Also, I have been pleased with the touchpad itself...it works great & somehow doesn't store your fingerprint oils. Great piece of hardware, probably my best investment so far

Looks like they've disabled the ability to include the Kwikset locks in shortcuts again. They were there and I had things working until recently. I think it changed as of the last time I updated the app.

Can you still put the Schlage locks into a shortcut?

I have two Kwikset locks and I can put them in Shortcuts (lock or unlock). Robots, however, cannot unlock the door; only lock.

Kwikset 912 lever lock and 914 deadbolt.

Well here i am running the pool with a Leviton plugin module. Even if rated to 1/2hp 15amps I have been running a 1.5hp pump for a month now. I have a schedule that power on at 7am and power off at 7pm. Working like a charms.

Planning to built a more robust with a solid state relay (30amp 90-340vac) @ 9$ will use a salvage Ge light bulb with the ZigBee module to drive the SSR. The intermatic is too ex.pensive.

Yeah, nevermind. Just a fluke in the app I think. I couldn't do it within an existing shortcut that I was trying to change had but recreating it I can.

So as a novice, I'm trying to get a feel for this. I'm unable to get my Intermatic switch to pair directly with the Wink. It sounds as though I may be able to get an inexpensive z-wave remote and perhaps have better luck pairing with that and do whatever basic cfg is needed. Is it then simple to migrate that device into Wink, or do I have that all wrong?

I probably got you all messed up when I wrote about the other remote. That was specific to the device I was connecting. Have you called Wink? They are very helpful in assisting folks with this kind of stuff.

Used the Wink Hub with the Amazon Echo last night. Worked great. Can setup different groups and everything. Very impressive. Completely sold on Wink now. Voice command is much more helpful then going to the app everytime I need to do something.

For $20, I had to get one; but I have no idea what I'll do with it. Really afraid I'm getting in too deep with Wink. Hopefully, STv2 will support all this stuff.

Me too. I have 2 GE Link bulbs in an outside security light. The light plugs into an outlet in the garage. As I need more bulbs, I can now use this strip to control the security light and use regular bulbs - freeing up 2 GE Link bulbs.

Lots of negative reviews but for $20, I will chance it.

Thanks for posting the link.

I bought two last week for $20 each as well. One is connected under my wife's desk and so far working fine. The switched outlet controls her lamp. Not sure why the bad reviews (though to be honest I haven't read them). Not sure what to do with the other but I'm sure I'll find a use eventually.

I found this on deal news:
Walmart has the power pivot genius on sale for $20.
Here's the link:

Thanks for the heads up. I had to grab a couple at that price.

I happened to notice Amazon has all four colors of the Lutron Caseta dimmers for $55 again:

Not long ago the black ones were twice that much.

Update on my Schlage: keypad is working good, but the white Schalge button area to activate the lock & keypad is still having issues after the battery...like 75% of it is dead, and you have to hit it with enough pressure at a certain part of the logo to make it work. Annoying. Will contact customer service.

SO I ordered a $12 GE 18 device z-wave controller(1-9 on/off buttons and shift 1-9), went up to the pool pump with the CA3750. Ran a delete device from network. Then ran an add to network. Then ran add device to remote device 1 and it all worked on the first try.
So now I have a ~50' on/off remote for the pool pump. Next trick is to see if I can then migrate the device to Wink control.
Will update if I get it to work. Then I can add a schedule.

Good news. I've got one of those, but have never used it. I'm following your adventure - please document with as much detail as possible.

Wink app for iOS today added several features including ability to put Hue lights in groups, shortcuts and robots. Hurray! Did the Android app get updated too? I haven't checked my Nexus 7 yet.

Looks like there was an update today (3.5.0.5). I don't have Hue so can't tell what's changed there. Does look like they've added some light devices.

OK, so I have a Tapt that I haven't used anywhere. I prefer the Lutron switches and have them installed throughout the house. I'm building an office in my basement and it, too, will get a Lutron switch for the light.. however, I have this Tapt.

Anyone have one of these and can tell me more about it? Can I just hardwire it and use the two switches as smart switches? One idea I had was to install it near where my desk will be and then link the two switches to various shortcuts. (That's how I installed Relay, actually. It doesn't control any light load.)

If it does control a light, is one button on/off for the light or does it use both (one for on, one for off)?
