Was anyone else disappointed in the 2nd episode when Clay Davis was in the police commissioners office?

Why was I disappointed? Where was his trademark "Sheeeeee-it"???
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Davis

haha lmao, i couldnt stop saying 'sheeeeet' for like a week after seeing that guy. He annoys the crap out of me to.

Yeah his character is annoying but I love that "sheeeeeeeit" line of his. No one can pull it off like he can.

Either Daniels or Freamon did a great imitation. Can't remember what season or which guy, though.

I remember that and I think it was Freeman. Daniels is to uptight, I could never imagine him saying that.

Sheeeeeeeeee-it.

Did the newspaper guy lie about the kid in the wheelchair (E.J.)? He made that whole story up? Why?

Because he realized its easier to just make up some tear-jerker type story than to find a real one that may or may not exist.

The show's creator used to work for the Baltimore Sun and has a serious beef with the past management. I can't remember if he has alleged that the Sun has printed false stories in the past, or if he's just making a commentary on other papers' issues (the NYT, most notably) while making the Sun look bad.

The Sun looks bad all by itself though -- hardly needs any help.

I wish they would dump the newspaper and mayor story lines. This show started as the cops/drug dealers- all this other fluff is a distraction.

Anyone with Comcast have the new episode (53) available On Demand? Not showing here. Usually it's up on Mondays.

The show isn't about the cops and drug dealers, it's about the city.

I just watched Episode 53. Omar is coming back and it's on. If you think breaking the Sunday truce pissed him off, you aint seen nothing yet.

At least that is my guess, giving the events that happened in Episode 53 and knowing Omar.

No chance. The show depicts the worst of every facet of Baltimore. There's many frustrations to living in Baltimore, but it's a very livable and fun city.

There were a couple of documentaries about the wire before this season. In it, some of the journalists, including David Simon I believe, noted that fabricating sources and altering quotes and the like used to be a lot more common. I suspect that will come into play.

Simon's beef was over the corporatizing of the Sun when it was purchased by the chicago tribune people, the reduced number of employees, and overall the concept of "doing more with less". All of which are being directly addressed.

I've been watching The Wire ON DEMAND, which comes a week early. What exactly does Marlo think he can accomplish by bringing Omar back? And why on Earth would Cheese give up his own uncle, Prop Joe? None of this makes sense if you're a smart businessman.

Spoiler warning for the episode that is available on-demand but hasn't aired yet..

Last episode was nuts with Prop Joe getting hit but I thought this episode sucked. McNulty's crazy ways have been amusing in the past (best was when he wrecked his car, got out and replayed the accident scene over and over and then nailed some 19 yr old waitress) but he's starting to piss me off. The whole subplot of the homeless guy murders is pretty week. I can't believe Freamon is in on it too...he's too smart for this and it seems out of character for him. It's good that they tied the newspaper and police together in some way so the newspaper subplot isn't totally worthless but the reporter who makes stuff up is only slightly less annoying than McNulty. The scene where McNulty told him the police also got a call and the look on the reporters face was priceless though.

I want to know where Monk bought that bulletproof sofa so I can get one in the event of a home invasion or nuclear war. That thing is better than a panic room. I want to know where the hell Omar went off the balcony. I thought he was going to lean out of the balcony below and shoot a couple of them in the head.

Anyways...greatest...show...evar...but that was a weak episode. Oh and McNulty's ex is still hot as hell. I would give up drinking forever for a chance at that.

I wouldn't say it was a weak episode, but it wasn't the best one of the season. I thought McNulty's look was priceless when the reporter was telling him about the phonecall from the killer, and McNulty is looking at him like WTF?

I'd assume Omar hit the tree or bushes or whatever those were which broke his fall enough where he could at least walk away. Now he must be REALLY pissed off. First time we've seen Omar get outsmarted like that.

Yeah I agree with SA. The episode on on-demand was pretty weak, and a little out of character at the end with Omar. Usually he can sniff out traps like that.

The only thing better was when McNulty told the reporter that the killer called the police dept.

Also, did anyone notice in the episode before this one that one of the homeless guys under the bridge was one of the guys from the docks in season 2? Very subtle little statement there.

noticed, and well done by the writers to tie that in. not exactly subtle though - he was one of the main characters of season 2, so you'd better recognize him if you've been watching the show.

on a related note, last year i swung down to Locust Point (the neighborhood in B-more where the docks are located) in an attempt to find the bar where they filmed all the dock workers drinking scenes. i found it, though it had been recently purchased and was getting renovated. someone had spray painted "the fucking yuppies are taking over!" on the building. funny how well The Wire captures some dynamics of Baltimore.

Before this season started I was really concerned that the plotline with the media was going to ruin the good stuff this season...little did I know the police portion was gonna go to hell. This crap with McNulty and the homeless "bodies" has gone beyond annoying.
