**fucking spoiler***

Just watched episode 8 and fucking Omar gets shot in the back of the head buying smokes by Kenard or some other little hopper. WTF is that? Omar is, in his own little twisted sort of way, actually a good guy imho and for him to go down without a battle...without killing Chris or Snoop is fucking bullshit. Some of the earlier seasons I had to watch a 2nd time before I really enjoyed them (season 2 namely which is now one of my favorites) but this season is really pissing me the fuck off. All of this time wasted on the bullshit homeless murders. If I have to watch Carcetti give one more speech about how they love the homeless I'm going to fucking puke.

/sorry for the rant...one of my favorite shows and in what should be it's finest hour it's hitting the lowest point ever

Oh yeah, I think McNulty is going to kill himself when all of this gets exposed.

Only 2 more episodes and then it's over

7 have aired, only 9 for the season?

10. 8 have been on On Demand so far (they go up a week early there)

Really, I have Cox and they dont go up early.

Check again. Episode 8 should have gone up late last night/early this morning. Though, it is true that some cable companies are much slower to add content to their servers.

That was funny when he did it in 25th Hour, now he just beats it to death...

25th Hour is the best movie not enough people have seen like the Wire is (or at least was) the best tv show not enough people have seen.

Holy crap. Just watched the latest On Demand episode (Ep. 9), and while I too have been a bit disappointed by this season, this was by far the best episode of Season 5, and one of the best of the entire series. Seems like some major stuff is going to go down in the final episode too. Can't wait to see it, though it will be sad to see it go too.

*********** SPOILERS **************

Soon as I saw that psycho little hopper look at Omar in the alley, I knew he was gone. I've loved Omar's character, but I knew he was probably going to go out this season. This doesn't really strike me as a happy-ending kind of show.

I don't know about anyone else, but almost every scene he's been in for the last few episodes has had my heart beating like crazy. I really wanted Omar to win this war.

That was last week's episode. This week's episode was WAY better. Felt like the old seasons again..

That being said, yeah, not a lot of happy endings for a show like this. It seems maybe at least Bubbles will have a happy ending.

Watched Episode 9 a few minutes after Comcast posted it OnDemand...man what an episode.

***** PSEUDO-SPOILERS AHEAD *****

Marlo's reaction when Chris, Monk and Cheese tell him Omar was calling him out on the street was simply chilling. He has been the very definition of cool, calm and collected regardless of the situation (2 to the chest, 1 in the mouth and "I wasn't made to play the son...there, there...close your eyes"). It was the first time he got really incensed and emotional, you can see why Chris et all respect yet ultimately fear him.

Also, well played Michael, well played indeed. It's interesting to note that the younger generation appears to be replacing the older generation as this story "wraps up", and its almost character for character. Michael is now standing outside of the game, yet he is still an integral part of its' story. He isn't really interested in becoming an Avon, Marlo or Stringer, only taking part in the trade when he really needs to. He has also shown a tendency to take the moral highground where others rarely visit (didn't kill the kid coming out of the backdoor, constantly questioning why someone has to fall). He has a code...if you will. Just like Randy is likely to morph into a Prop Joe type character, and Dukie into the new Bubbles...Michael is slowly evolving into a new character as well...the new Omar.

One of the things I love about this entire series is that it doesn't pull any punches (see: Omar's death). It just does such a good job of highlighting the ultimate futility of it all, that the lifestyle isn't something that will so much as slow down, even if Marlo ends up behind bars.

***** FINALE PREVIEW SPOILER *****

From the brief look I saw of the preview, it really looks like Daniels may run up the chain ultimately ending up in front of Carcetti....who may help cover up the whole McNulty mess when he see's just how big a bust the cops are capable of with the proper funding and resources. It also looks like a copycat killer may present himself as well (not sure how that could be wrapped up in 93 minutes though).

Just think how much better off Balmer would have been had Carcetti just put his pride aside and accepted the governors help when offered. His arrogance and shortsightedness in striving for the Governors mansion may be the one thing that prevents him from ever reaching it.

that last eps was phenomenal. i just don't get how they'll cover everything in this last episode. there's scott's lies, mcnulty mess, the sleazy defense lawyer, the use of illegal wiretaps . . . i know i'm forgetting something.

it's really sad that all this is coming to an end. what an awesome show

I'm wondering the same thing, other than the Wire, I rarely watch HBO anymore. The wifey likes Entourage a lot though, so I might be stuck with it. Is Rome still in production and is it any good? What else is coming up??????
