it's really sad that all this is coming to an end. what an awesome show

The last episode is 90 minutes, so it does give them a little extra time to wrap everything up.

Excellent episode. I dread this series ending.
Nown that thw Wire is wrapping up what reason is there to keep ab HBO Subscription? Any good series coming up? Entourage is acool and all but it;s hardlyb worth $10+ extra a month on the cable bill.

I'm wondering the same thing, other than the Wire, I rarely watch HBO anymore. The wifey likes Entourage a lot though, so I might be stuck with it. Is Rome still in production and is it any good? What else is coming up??????

No, its not in production anymore but if you haven't seen it its excellent. Both seasons are out on DVD. The show was ridiculously expensive for them to produce so they called it good after 2 seasons. Plus they had more or less reached the natural conclusion of the story for that era of Rome.

There isn't anything good coming up on HBO for a while, Entourage was supposed to be summer but was pushed to fall because of the writers strike, Big Love was pushed to early 09.

I still stand by my prediction that McNulty is going to kill himself. He obviously gets called out on his lies based on the preview and I don't see another way to wrap it up this quick unless Carcetti just says fuck it and pretends it never happens (possible but I say no). Beadie's comment about there not being anyone at his wake because they really don't like him or whatever seems like foreshadowing to his death. Obviously Marlo gets out of jail for at least a while, I think the Greek is give him a Frank Sobotka special.

I thought at the end of last season that Michael and Dookie were going to be the next up and coming Avon/Stringer but that seems unlikely now.

i watched episode 9 last night. holy crap it was a CRAZY episode! It was definitely my favorite of the season and the finale is going to go out w/a bang.

i guess i'm in the minority since i seem to really like this season. it's nto the best but it's not disappointing or bad at all, not even remotely.

I'd say it WAS disappointing because it hadn't had one of those "Holy $#$@ !!" episodes.. until Ep. 9.

I don't see McNulty killing himself.. He wasn't drinking in the last episode with Lester and seemingly realizes now that what he did was stupid and he'll just need to accept whatever happens (get fired, goto jail, whatever).

Shit, they could probably make every episode 120minutes.

Fucking love this show.

That's what it seems like every season...

Is the last episode going to an hour long or longer?

Does anyone think that they are going to make a "the wire" movie? Any rumors to that effect?

Its 90 minutes.

There was some talk on doing a Prequel like movie based around Avon & Stringer's rise to power, but I'd be pretty surprised if that ever happened.

They intended it to be a 5 season show from the start. If they do make a movie it will be because they feel like telling more story, not because it was canceled prematurely or anything.

There are some short movies showing the early days of many characters in the wire. They were on amazon and other places at the beginning of the season.

Right, but more recently in response to questions about whether the show could live on as a movie, David Simon said there'd just have to be an interesting story to convince him to do it, and that a prequel was the only interesting way he could think of at the time:

Well, for those interested, the final episode is out there if you do some looking (let's not turn this into a discussion of where or how to find it, use google).

I won't post spoilers until after its aired, but its solid. Sad at times. Funny at times. But everything wrapped up in a way that seemed right. In the end, I was more sad that it was the last episode of The Wire I'd ever get to see.

I thought it ended how it had to end. The same shit continues in cycles, whether it's Politics, the press, law enforcement, etc. Look good, and screw the rest. Avon should've been in the final episode, but what can ya do.

I dunno. I thought the finale was exactly what it needed to be. It would have been way too cliche to have some big shootout where everyone gets killed or something. Instead, it did what the show has done from day 1 in showing that whatever else happens, the cycle continues for people in that world. For example, for every success such as Bubbles redeeming himself, you have Dookie now taking his place. Omar is gone, but now Michael is taking his role.

I agree. I liked Omar's replacement . It was a helluva lot better than the sopranos ending too.

It's a shame the show ended, as it was a great insight into city life. My Uncle used to work very closely with many drug rehab program in Baltimore, and he tells me that's it very realistic.

*** SPOILER WARNING ***

I kinda wanted to see that lying author get it publicly. It was a pretty good ending. I was kind of hoping for something a little more exciting as the last few episodes kind of seemed a bit rushed to me, but showing that no matter who you take out there'll always be someone there to take his place was kind of what the show was all about anyways.
