The Wire -- How long until I'm hooked?

weeds gets really REALLY fucking stupid. i can't recommend that show to anyone. unless they stop like after season 4 or 5.



i picked up the full set on amazon a few months back for like $32. haven't re-watched it yet but it is one of my favorite shows for sure.

i'd recommend watching Sons of Anarchy for those who haven't seen it. there are 6 seasons finished already and season 7 (the final season) started 2 days ago. amazing show.

Yea I've heard about sons of anarchy. I ride a bike so maybe I'll be into it..Will have to check it out.



Weeds didn't really catch my attention.

Those who are recommending The Shield. I've heard there is a lot of shaking camera stuff. Is it too bad?

if you are asking if it's like the 2nd bourne movie, it's NOTHING like that. it has the nitty gritty feel though and the camera isn't ever really "steady" in that sense. but it is because the show is hectic like 24/7 and is just part of the style of it. the camera is constantly moving a bit, and/or zooming slightly. but it is just the style. watch 1 ep and it's that style the entire series. if it bothers you, then don't watch anymore.

it isn't as "steady" as the wire is. but it is also a lot more nitty gritty than the wire in a more over the top sense. the wire feels more "real" than the shield for sure.

i personally like the shield more, but i also saw the shield first. most people i know liked the one they saw first, better. i still thought the wire was awesome btw.

i want to go back and watch the shield though. i am wondering how it has aged. it was the first show of it's kind in a way. it's the show that made saying "shit" and other bad words aside from fuck the norm on non-premium shows. it was also pretty graphic in some parts. now that stuff is the norm, and it all started with the shield. also, the shield was before we had HD so it's all 4:3.

Wire is 4:3 too. Doesn't bother me. The quality of content is what matters, not that of video

Can't say I felt anything for Marlo Stansfield. He's a cold fuck to the core.

Honestly I felt Marlo was completely miss-cast and as a result was one of the weakest characters in the show.

I agree. He just doesn't have the personality for the type of role he cast in.

Stringer Bell, on the other hand, brilliantly done

Wondering the same thing. There is sons of anarchy I heard is decent. Not sure as I haven't had a chance to watch any of it.

I agree that weeds got weird after a few seasons. But Andy and Kevin Nealon were awesome all the way through

I know some people who watch this. It is slower than the shield that's for sure but it looked decent. Not sure if it will get me hooked like the shield.

i watched the first season or two seasons of southland. it's okay but it wasn't anything that i was dying to watch.

if you haven't seen homeland i'd recommend homeland. or game of thrones. or rescue me.

Probably not since Oz has a show been so willing to adopt cartoonishly over the top violence.

It even surpasses Breaking Bad in that, though not quite in dark story, though it tries.

I disagree. He is economical. Very economical. He is laconic and rarely moves unless he had to. Same thing with his facial expression. I know people like that in real life and they're very successful but, as expected, cold to the touch.

Yup, like little finger from game of thrones showed up in The Wire. I don't like GOT much but I like his character in it. In The Wire, at least so far, his character isn't very interesting. But obviously be looks much younger

It is pretty impressive the way Idris Elba has come up with the required accent for this show. Especially considering he is British. Quite different from his natural way of speaking

I'm on episode 4 for the first season. It's getting a bit better and picking up. My first issue with any show or series is seeing if I like the characters and what they bring to make the episodes hook you. I'm not hooked yet but from what I can tell it will pick up soon.

Not sure when season 6 will be on there. It's the general bike gang ruling a small town and getting in favor with the cops/ local citizens. Lots of gruesome stuff and action to look forward to. The story itself hasn't grabbed me yet like breaking bad, the wire, shield. The wire took a while to get me into the plot so I assume this is the same.
