Except Geralt manages to keep a beard off through out the first two games traveling for months at a time and its said a one point in the books he hates having a beard. I don't mind a beard as an option, I just wish there was a shaving razor I could use to keep it trimmed in the when outside the cities.

Hey, my granddad, a WWII vet, was the same way. He shaved every single morning of his life for some 72 years (can't say I know when he started growing whiskers, but let's go with age 15....because that's what men do. )

I'm just saying: complaining about having a beard as part of the game mechanic, yet demanding ultimate immersion and all the while calling this a mature, real world game to the detriment of all all other "fake games" like those "Stupid Dragon Age games", for example...is monumentally discordant with one's own claims.

it's like some people are unaware that facial hair is part of life....and, well, something that the type of men traveling about the world cleaving other men's head from their torsos would have to deal with.

You want a shaving kit? sure, why not? but why bother--Paul Hogan taught us c. 1986 that all you need is your trusty knife. Geralt already has something like that, and it doesn't take extra bag space.

You make too many assumptions about why they chose what they did. They don't attack because of Radovid. They said so if you talked to the ambassador at Vizima. It became a stalemate for a time and they were focused elsewhere for now.

Nilfgaard doesn't seem to matter at all. Where is the war? You are always dancing on the outskirts of it. No 2 finished on Nilfgaards' invasion yet there are no battles here just aftermath which is a cop out.

I believe the absence of the war is intentional. Whilst the Witcher 2 centered around politics, intrigue and war, the Witcher 3 is supposed to be a much more personal story that centers on Geralt's life as a Witcher and his quest to find his loved ones..

To once again have Geralt embroiled in wars and politics between nations would be against the major theme of the storyline...

So hit level 14 last night around 49 hours in.
This really is one heck of a game. I wish more games were as enjoyable as this.
Just opened up third tier of the sword talents, trying to decide what to take next.
The fast sword whirlwind attack or the heavy attack one.
Decisions decisions...

In case it wasn't mentioned yet--I see that 2 more free DLC are available:

--some quest involving a town ruled by pigs
--a set of gwent cards

Am I the only person that finds crafting tedious and pointless? Just let me buy my items. Or rather than giving me 'this formula' and hunt for ingredients to do it quit spelling it out and let you experiment. I feel games are putting way too much emphasis on crafting these days, but there is no mystery in it. It is all spelled out for you which makes it really pointless addition to the game. I get maybe finding certain potion formulas hidden somewhere, but what about secret gear made with really rare items, rather than items that you find every 10 feet.

Some games used to do this, and even that was tedious, but at least there was something to it...todays crafting is...pointless.

No, not the only one. I generally don't like crafting either. At least not when you know what you need but need to hunt the world over to find one.

I rarely craft anything unless I learn its beneficial to finish a quest or get a certain enemy.

The rare items required for crafting are actually the patterns.

There are 4 ways to acquire gear in RPGs and MMORPGs.
Quest rewards.
You buy them at a vendor. For gold, reputation, or some other currency.
They drop off monsters you kill.
You craft them.

I think the best is a mix of all of those 4 methods. I find the "just buy at a vendor" the least amount of fun. Part of the fun in an RPG is to see your character improve and get stronger. You do that through talents in a talent-tree, increasing skills, and also through gear. I think it is better gameplay-design to let your player do something to acquire gear. So they can feel they "earned it". A little reward. Even when we are aware of the "hamster wheel" that we are being put in, I think it is still hard to not feel joy when you get some new gear, finish a questline or just improve your character. I know I do.

I do however like the enhancement crafting aspect in this game. Get a shirt, make it into feline armor, then upgrade it to enhanced when you get the instructions.

This weeks DLC, an alternate appearance for Triss and Wolf school gear. CDPR is trying it's best to make Geralt cheat on Yennefer with Triss....again.

I think they went OT on the sea caches, would of been better off having more Witcher contracts, far more interesting doing those they diving for pointless loot.

Did you really expect a large scale battle to be happening in real time? What game has ever managed to pull that off (that isn't an RTS)? Seems like an unrealistic expectation. And supposing they did pull it off, what exactly would Geralt be doing during the course of this battle? I'm not trying to criticize, I'm genuinely interested in how you see this happening.

At the risk of being too similar to themes in TW2, I would have had Geralt and Roche assassinate the emperor while he was focused on fighting Radovid, and then assassinate Radovid once the Nilfgaardian host had been neutralized.

I expected Nilfgaard to demolish a major city, say Oxenfurt with you dropped in the middle of it and having to fight your way out of hundreds of troops interspersed with some half decent cutscenes. Even the Battle of Kaer Morhen had limited troops (destroy 3 or 4 portals on the outskirts? only?) Consoles just can't hack it. Like Skyrim civil war with 6 soldiers and 3 streets. This wasn't that personal anyway. You spent half the game running around finding Ciri then 2 battles later its over. The plot had no heft. It didn't feel epic. In II stuff really happened. The lore is characterised by fat battles that scar the world but the III game pffft.

The pig quest...very dumb. but I have a question...

do you think that the guy who didn't turn into a pig was the cause of the curse? I let him go and told the other villagers to leave him alone but the way they made him act all "i dunno, i'm dumb" and such seemed like maybe I choose poorly and he was hiding the truth.

Did you play until the end? Riding to the tower with the world coming to an end, chaos raining down, Nilfgaardians fighting wild hunt as you jump ship to ship , fighting in between worlds as your thrown through portals? All seemed pretty epic to me.

I'm ready to start the main story quests in novigrad. I'm level 13, almost 14 and I was wondering if I should do the cat school gear scavenger hunt. From what I understand some of the items I won't be able to wear and they are all diagrams I need to craft the items? I thought you just find all the required armor pieces. I'm just afraid I won't be able to craft them due to not having the correct ingredients.

A tiny corridor with 3 or 4 NPCs. TRULY EPIC. It was utterly hilarious that 70% of the cutscenes were pre-rendered too. Next gen is so weak its laughable.
