The patch should only be 2.9GB for Steam users. GoG users are getting the 13GB patch.

GG GoG.

I found the update in the GOG client by going into 'extra downloads' I think, but it was only a couple of gigs in size. Odd...

A couple of questions:

1 - Has anyone successfully backed up and restored this game? Eg. backing up the game folder, doing a clean install of Windows, copying the game folder back and successfully running the game without having to re-download anything?

2 - The GOG client talks about a feature being a DRM free version. How do I know if I have that?

I just did a clean install of Windows due to my new hardware this weekend. All I did was copy my saves over because I didn't have a big enough spare drive to copy my data drive. I still need to download the whole game.

You could do it, but you would have to reinstall gog galaxy and point it to the right game directory if you wanted to get the updates.

What you do is run GoG and point it to your witcher 3 folder and have it do a file verification kind of like steam. Then you can run the exe without GoG running at all.

Patch 1.22 from GoG is 2.9 GBs not 13gb

Maybe they updated the update to fix that. Was definitely 13gb for me. Kinda pissed me off too cause I was about an hour from completing B&W when it started updating.

200/20 fiber for me, so download size isn't really relevant but can confirm mine was 13 gig also.

There's a Viper school armor set now with the new expansion? Is this added to the game in the prologue area, or do you have to go to Toussaint to get it?

https://www.gog.com/game/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_game_expansion_pass

GOG has the full game + pass for $49.99

Is this a fair price? Also.. can't find confirmation, but is this a steam game? Or do I need a different client? I have Witcher 2 in my steam library and would like W3 there as well.

IF you get it through GOG, the key will not work in steam. GOG is the go-to client for CD Project.

But IIRC, any other source will give you a steam key. I think I bought it through GMG on a pre-release sale.

And yes, that is a great deal. But if you wait a bit you will probably see the same price on steam in the upcoming summer sale if you must have it through steam.

This is what I paid so I could have it all in one package. Totally worth it and you will need gog galaxy client to download. Well you dont need it unless you don't mind downloading every part file.

Steam will probably have the same price later. This price has come and gone a few times from gog.

I just passed 80 hours into the game (just got back from Skellige basically, level 27). This game must really be huge because I'm not sure how far I actually am into the main quest. I am still amazed at how good the quest writing is in this game. I don't think any quest has turned out exactly how I expected.

The witcher contracts are my favorite part of the game by far. I would pay for an expansion that had nothing but more of those.

Viper school was added with the first expansion, it can actually be missed too, just remember to listen to an old ladies story and trade with her when she asks too. Also the last area of HOS includes one of the swords you have to retrieve then otherwise you cant get it at another time.

Put 245hrs in for one play through of main+expansions, more than any other SP game I own. And yea I loved the Witcher contracts more than the main quest as well, it's sweet hunting down and slaying monsters.

Still have a ton of ? on the map for Skellige too. Probably mostly hidden treasures and caches etc. Think I did every quest unfortunately.

If I had to nitpick, the only thing I wish was different was the contracts and quests that you need to investigate an area. It's basically use your witcher senses and walk around until you see the glowing spot and examine it. There's very little actual hunting for clues , gathering of evidence etc. Sure if you don't examine certain things you can cause quests to end badly but all the stuff glows and sticks out at you and you're told the exact area to go to etc.

No not all the way though...started The Witcher 2 years ago....didn't get far before I quit.

The Witcher 3 character system has some similarities to The Witcher 2, but like the transition from The Witcher to The Witcher 2, there are as many if not more differences. For the most part, it is a far worse system. Just like The Witcher 2, you get one skill point per level, but there is a MMO slot system that you have to put your skills into, and you are very limited by those since there are very few of them.

I mostly use light strikes and rolling, combined with a lot of signs.

I would suggest putting most of your points into signs, especially Quen and Axii. Axii is very useful in conversation and resolving situations in many quests, and thus you may even want to put your first points into Axii.

Just starting this for the first time... any build tips/advice?

Loot everything, plants, items etc, you are going to need the coin and materials to get the best potions. Sell items to the corresponding vendor for most coin, weapons to blacksmiths, armors to armorers.

I wouldn't worry about alchemy early on, once you start making decoctions the skill that increases toxicity per recipe known is a godsend. Stacking two decoctions and using healing potions can make for interesting combinations.

If you are having trouble with general difficulty, don't hesitate in putting points into quen(shield skil).
