Fair enough. Though to be frank I don't think Letho was really intended to be a villian.
Is he doing a bad thing? Certainly and he's doing it for selfish reasons. But that's most everyone in the Witcher setting, including the Kings he's offed. Letho doesn't really care to be the bad guy but he knows Nilfgaard has him by the short hairs and by cooperating since the Emperor offered to throw support and refound Witcher schools, which he laments is becoming a dying breed. He protects Yennefer for Geralt, spares Geralt after Geralt tried to kill him, and later protects Triss if you don't. Heck you can let him go if you don't think he deserves death.

That's what I enjoy about these games, some great characterizations. Nobody is a saint, nobody is completely evil.

I agree, he wasn't the primary villain. The real boss fight was the dragon fight, not him. He was a gray area and optional.

That's the beauty of it, you walk away with your own conclusions. For me, Letho may slide for killing Foltest but not for having Geralt blamed for it.

She was also grey area.
An area that wasn't penetrable, sadly. Totally wanted to bang Daenerys, I mean Saskia

Watching the footage posted, can't wait for 1358!

Funny thing I never even knew the dragon was Saskia and I only chose to execute because I basically thought the dragon was already going to die so I chose to end the pain quickly instead of hours of suffering.

From what I've seen it doesn't look that amazing graphics wise. Perhaps on par with GTA 5 and the newest Dragon Age. Of course it's the gameplay that will matter and any open world RPG from a reputable company is a must buy.

The engine has a very 'last gen' look about it, like nothing 2011 frostbite couldn't have managed (on a scene-by-scene basis, I know it's an open world game). It still looks like a beautiful last gen game, but some have been overstating it's technological sophistication perhaps.

OK I have to challenge you guys on this. Are you fricking serious? D:

Show me one last gen, or current gen game that is anywhere near as good looking as the Witcher 3. And not only that, show me an open world game with this much environmental simulation and physics whilst you're at it..

And try to remember that YouTube makes the game look much worse than if you were playing it on your PC..

As for DAI, it's a great looking game, but it doesn't have nearly as much detail as the Witcher 3, as it was developed with last gen consoles in mind. It also has tons of loading screens..

GTA V is the same. Doesn't matter how dressed up the PC version is, it still has last gen roots. But the Witcher 3 is current gen only, and it shows in quality of assets and the amount of game technology..

I enjoyed The Witcher 2 far more than 1, though I do understand some comments that it was 'consolized'. I'm really looking forward to the Witcher 3, so much so though that I might delay getting it, so that I can enjoy some GOTY edition later, after I've built a new PC. I'm still running an overclocked 2600k with GTX 580s in SLI, and would love to max it out on 1440. But part of me just wants to play it through as soon as it comes out...dilemmas!

Lots of people seem to just be looking for something to shit on.

I would say Ryse is the only other game I've seen that matches the graphics of TW3, and it obviously has small linear levels and loading screens. DAI doesn't even come close.

Even so it's still pretty dumb to be whining about graphics quality based videos that have been ruined by youtube compression.

If the video was uploaded at full native res (4K or 1080P) there is not really much loss in quality these days on YouTube. It actually comes down more to the compression used by the person editing the video. YouTube has very little to no degradation on their side if you upload in the proper format.

I disagree. YouTube quality on a 1080p movie trailer looks much lower than the same scenes on even a DVD due to extreme artifacting caused by overaggressive compression. I suspect that the movie studios are uploading high fidelity source material, and I know I am, but when I share 1080p videos via YouTube my source material looks vastly better than the product, so much so that I now just share videos via Dropbox.

W3 looks gorgeous. I own W2, but haven't played it much because it was 3rd person and controller driven. However, I've really enjoyed GTA5 on PC, and I find myself using 3rd Person more often and sticking with the controller except when I'm in a firefight. So now I'm tempted to try W2 again. I worry the W3 footage is going to spoil it though and the game will feel dated.

Female YouTuber Melonie Mac put up her Witcher 3 gameplay:

The quality isn't as good as Gopher's or that German guy I posted earlier, but it shows some stormy weather during the night..

And I think there is way to much focus just on graphics. My problem with Witcher 2, DA:I or all the other recent games hasn't been graphics, but rather bad controls, long load times and repetitive play. What bothers me about some of these clips is the excessive use of rolling around to avoid being hit. That's where I appreciate Shadows of Mordor where I felt like a sword fighting badass and not a tumbling champion.

IDK, you could kind of riposte and such things pretty well in past Witchers, but I agree tumbling was easier and more effective.

That's more of a player issue than a game issue. There is a dodge and parry/counterattack mechanic in the game, but since they were only given a limited amount of time with the game, the YouTube previewers weren't able to adjust properly to be able to use those skills effectively.

Or equally as likely, maybe they just plain suck with a controller.. Footage released by the devs definitely shows Geralt dodging and parrying incoming blows..

*Edit* Actually, watch the Gopher videos and you can clearly see him using dodge fairly often.

Let's hope it's the previewers, and they get KB+M ironed out. I loved TW2, but it took some serious getting used to due to the UI, and like a Bethesda game, practically required out of the box modding on the PC.

I recently bought an Xbox One controller for Windows in preparation for the Witcher 3. Although I preferred to use K&M for Witcher 2, I'm hoping the controller is better in part 3 as I typically prefer to use a controller for third person action games like the AC Unity, Batman Arkham series etcetera..

No lie, watched 30 seconds of the UI in the beginning and its built for a controller and a fat TV. Full size inventory again? Why doesn't it pop-up and float in game? Sure a mouse is fine, but you can see where the focus is . . . .

Witcher 3 uses a similar grid based inventory system that the original Witcher used, and is actually more optimized for PCs than for consoles. :whiste:

How configurable are the GFX settings? Can you individually turn off some of the dumber "cinematic" effects that a number of us have grown a pet hate for?

I agree. The alchemy and inventory UI in Witcher games has always been terrible and it looks like it's the same in this game. It shouldn't have to override your entire screen when you access it, at least not on PC.

Why would you play a open world game with a controller..lol Only thing i've every say worth playing with a controller is side scrollers are emulators.
