Steam is running TW1 on sale for $1.50 and TW2 for $3 this weekend. Great time to grab them if they aren't in your library yet.

Great deal. I just started playing TW2 after having it in my Steam library for Yonks. Enjoying it so far. Haven't played the first one, and $1.50 is hard to pass up.

Got a suggestion for you.

Don't pre-order the game.
Don't buy it on the day of release.
Wait a week.
Read reviews. Don't trust the first wave of reviews.
Read forums. Try to distil the truth out of all the mixed opinions you will read.
Look at all the screenshots posted by different people.
Check Jim2point0. If a game can look good, he will be able to make it look good. If even he can't make a game look good, then you know the graphics are bad.

Then after a week, make the decision to buy the game or not.
You'll be playing the game 7-10 days later than many other people.
Would that be so bad ?
At least you keep control over your own anger, your own disappointment and your own money.
Maybe give it a try.

Given the recent scandals over poor QA in triple-A titles, you'd think people would have learned this by now. Never pre-order any game or pick it up at launch. Wait for the reviews.

I think I've only pre-ordered two games ever. Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed IV. With Mirror's Edge I pre-ordered it after being so impressed with the demo. Nobody releases demos anymore though. Let alone before the game comes out. Got a nice laptop bag out of it too.

Nope played (well installed the chunky 7 DVDs and Day 1 DRM er update) for GTA V as soon as it was released. I do not wait. Played Witcher 1 and 2 at least twice (If not three times), this isn't a game you wait for. Same with any new Fallout or Elder Scrolls even with Bethesda's spazzy engines, these type of games take forever to roll around and once they are out can't resist. Why else do I have a 5930K and a fat old 780 Ti? Indie games?

Thank you, sir. This, ten times over. If you're a fan of the game and genre, you'll be playing this game, period.

All I can do is hope CDPR hasn't allowed Nvidia TurdWorks to taint their product. I'll grit my teeth and bare it, but I hope not.

I enjoyed the tears shed on neogaf over the prolonged lack of console footage, peasants got to be on the receiving end for once. Their downgrade central not so much, too salty for me.

Witcher 3 will be to RPG genre what Game of Thrones is to TV shows. 100% convinced of this.

Obviously, this is right up my alley but even if I try to distance myself from it, only taste appears to be a valid reason to shun the game.

I'm so easily captivated by the game, eyes glued to the screen and completely immersed even when I'm just watching youtube footage.
Little details like hearing Iorveth's flute melody, even for the umpteenth timecompletely take me out of the real world and draw me into the lore.

Oh it is most definitely the same location. It just looks horrible in the 2015 promo. I also really dislike the orange color of it, but maybe it was sunset or something.

But really that sharp corner just does not look good.

I swear the reason for the dumbing down is consoles though. Make it so the consoles and PC share the same assets.

In fact in that very screenshot, the 2nd ones has better graphics than the first in other areas. The grass is clearly better, less blurry textures. even better lighting.

It's blurry because it's a screencap from a heavily compressed video.

You actually think the above wall does not look better? The corner is curved in the upper one, its a straight 90 degree sharp corner in the lower one. The stones look better, the grass is better in the upper one (not clipping through rocks), the rocks are curved, not sharp angled polys like in the lower.

There is really no comparison between them.

So, what you're telling me is that 2 pre release builds of a game at unknown settings on unknown hardware are not 100% identical in image quality? Wow! I would have never guessed.

If it is indeed the same area, the current version was downgraded quite obviously. That should never be defended.

are they on identical quality settings for each image?

also, distance from player to arch in the background seems quite longer in the first pic than the second. It was always seemed to me that in the 2nd pic, Geralt is much further away than in the first, so we are looking at two different buildings.

Anyway, nothing can really be claimed from these images until we get content from the actual release build.

2nd one looks better, like i said, just looks like a different wall design. Compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges.

You should compare what castles in the game look like, to what castles in the real world look like. Or how castles looked in the past. The first castle looks much better, much more realistic, in the first screenshot. How anyone can think the opposite is beyond me.

We can not judge the game until it is out. Because we don't know if we're looking at the PC-version or console version, a new or old build, and we don't know what settings. If The Witcher has perfect technology, you should be able to turn on my stuff, maybe including more polygons and more tessalation. So the above screenshots runs @60Hz on supercomputers, and the lower screenshot runs @60Hz on crappy laptops. But we don't know yet.

Yes, that is why I said only if they are the same location, which obviously we can't be sure of. I'm still fully expecting a downgrade though, as promoting games with completely unattainable vertical slices is just the norm these days. I just don't like it on principal though, graphics aren't a big concern of mine.
