Went to my local gamestop and grabbed the game. I paid $6.50 cash for the game once my deposit and credits were tallied. Also got the limited edition guide with the lore book(I am kind of a sucker for that stuff with RPGs)
Your GameStop sells PC games? Mine rarely did and if you wanted one they could order it. Was thinking of trading in far cry 4 and destiny at best buy to get it for PC but I want to see how well it would run.

I haven't been following that closely but is this game releasing before midnight. Did you get the physical copy from GameStop?

You just can't please everybody - - but I think you can avoid a lot of backlash if you don't create graphics-based hype in the first place.

I bet if they posted low/medium settings for media pictures, much fewer would complain upon release once they see the higher graphics settings but instead people would complain about it beforehand.

Now AC: Unity has better graphics than the pics of Witcher 3 I'm seeing but despite how epic the graphics were, notice that the complaints were about everything else. Maybe developers should just say their game might be buggy and then show some medium pics but might hurt their pre orders.

Im just saying that at some point it stopped being about playing the games but rather what crazy effects you can turn on and cram in the amount of vram you have. Then we nitpick every shadow and every plant in the game world looking for flaws on purpose.

You know it's bad when people have to show 2 comparison shots zoomed in with large red circles and arrows pointing to the offending material just to highlight an alleged difference that no one would ever, ever noticed while actually playing.

They get them in if you pre-order through them. That's the only way they get physical games. I can buy the Steam code for any game through them though. Like if say I wanted to get a PC game they don't have, I can get it digitally through them and put the code in the steam client to download the game. That way I can use my store credit and power up rewards coupons.

Yes got the physical copy.

Visuals look pretty good. Wish there was some more tesselation on buildings for example.

Performance is pretty good on my 290 even with hairworks on. FPS seems to be stuck at 30 though according to Afterburner...is the game supposed to do that?

First impressions:

Graphics are gorgeous. Whiners can piss off.
My right (i7-4790, 980) is running decently on ultra at 1440p. I think I will have to disable hairworks in the long run though, it's causing some dips into the 20s.
LOVE the new combat system. Night and day better than TW2.

Edit: Also, game doesn't like the steam overlay. First time I brought it up the graphics driver crashed.

Do you have Vsync on?

I have it off in CCC and ingame. It hits 30fps ingame and 60fps in menu so it looks like vsync IS on for some reason...no idea where else to turn it off lol
Could Afterburner be reporting it wrong?

Lol the wording is a bit odd there.

I actually put the code in the GOG Galaxy software and downloaded it. Faster than swapping disks and reading it from my BD-Rom drive. Just finished installing a few minutes ago.

This game look amazing! Really liking what they did with this game! I'll have to get used to the controls a bit but it's damn fun so far.

I'm very happy with it. Only had a hairworks bug but it fixed itself after the prologue.

everything max at 1440p averages 50fps for me. Jumps a bit between 48-60fps depending on what is on screen. At 1080p it doesn't leave 60fps(well I guess it does when it goes between 58 and 60).

I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to dig in more.

Honestly don't see too much difference between Medium/High/Ultra. Granted to 'play' it I have to keep it on medium. Works for me. I think mostly I just don't care for the art style.

There was a setting in game to cap it to a frame rate of 30 or 60fps or unlimited.

Game does quite a job of explaining everything, which is much different than the previous to. However, controls are still kinda 'wonky' for me. Used both a controller and m/kb, and haven't quite gotten a combo that works right for me. Problem with m/kb is Geralt walks too fast and it can be a bit tricky to get in the right position. However, that aside I think I like it better than controller.

Performance seems solid though. I've a 7970 (which is 3yrs old?? ), and it's handling this game well enough. Disabled hairworks and put it mostly on 'high' with a few 'ultra' settings mixed in. It's not 60fps, but well north of 30 so that's ok with me.

There seems to be a menu setting for god rays, but i don't see any in-game with that enabled. What's the deal?

I think it's toned down a bit, I too enabled it but haven't played enough to notice them. The bit I did play didn't have them all over though.

Where's my crew? Where is Vernon Roche? He was my favorite character from 2, which I finished yesterday (in spite of the stutter), and now I'm in the middle of nowhere with some rando like it never happened. I have a horse called "Roach", but that's hardly a substitute.

Did you load your save file when you started? I didn't have one (played Witcher 2 so long ago) so I just pressed yes to simulate one.

So far, I have little to complain about graphically. It isn't jaw dropping or stunning, but it certainly looks good.

Seeing a group of badass looking witchers is kinda cool heh. Also, HairWorks was DESTROYING my fps. With it off, hair really isn't all that bad so far. On, its a stutter fest.

So first impressions...

1: WTF is with the hurricane force winds all the time? Is there an option to make it so trees dont look like they are having constant seizures?

2: This game is RAM hungry, they were not lying about your system needing 8GB.

3: The game runs decent. On high settings and sitting around 45-55fps. But it doesn't feel as smooth as I would think for this frame rate. But maybe I am just too used to running games at much higher frame rates.

4: Having trouble getting used to the combat system. Its more responsive than TW2 for sure, but isnt as intuitive as I would like.

I have Hairworks "ON" and it doesn't drop the FPS that much, nothing noticeable. I'm still testing the game and i'll try is OFF for some time since, like you say, the hair doesn't look that bad without it.
