Can you play with keyboard, mouse and gamepad at the same time ? Like in GTA V ? Or do you need to chose between mouse+keyboard or gamepad ?

Anyone tried SweetFX/ReShade yet ? That would be a way to desaturate the colors, if someone wants that.

What versions of AA are available ? Is SMAA amongst them ? (My favorite. Although I can always enable it via SweetFX).

I just tabbed out to say that I'm melting of joy and that you have to play this on ultra, preferably 1080p+ before passing judgement. I just started the "follow vesemir" mission but this is the best looking RPG I ever played. Even though I can't stop playing the game, every once in a while I stop just to enjoy the scenery:

Would anyone here be willing to do me a favour, if you have an older PC?

I run an overclocked 2600k (4.2 Ghz) with very overclocked GTX 580s (1.5 GB versions) in SLI. I was able to play DA:I at respectable framerates and detail, even at 1440p. I don't have high hopes for the Witcher 3 - it's currently downloading at home through Origin.

But I'm trying to set myself up for what I should expect. My guess is 1080p at medium detail, at best. The screenshots do look gorgeous to me. I planned to hold off playing until I built my new PC (after Skylake) but I can't really hold back. Want to play it through now, then likely replay on a much faster PC later.

Thanks!

My only annoyance with the ui are needing to double back out of some places. Otherwise I honestly find it pretty good. No bugs that I've seen yet, but its also early. Took me an hour to get out of 'set up' mode.

I must admit that while it looks good I feel its lost something from 2. Not sure if its just art direction, which right now I don't find super interesting (although looking out from keor moren was gorgeous!), or a combination of light/vegetation. On the plus side its seemingly running well across a lot of platforms.

I did think it funny that what felt like one hell of a storm came through, albeit with no rain, my clock still told me all clear.

The card game is a lot better compared to 2 which I never understood.

Game certainly can give you a challenge as well. I'm playing on 'blood and bones', so having to keep better track of vitality right now. Going to need to revise my fighting strategy as well, as running in just gets you killed. I appreciate that about it though and very glad it's not a cake walk. Not sure how to trigger executions though, although I've done a few dismemberments.

You can switch between them. It will detect when you start putting inputs on one and pop up a little message and then switch over. So while my controller is connected I can use KB/m just fine..

Well I've 7970 if that's old enough for you, and it runs fine on high settings. I think you'll be fine honestly. And even at lower frames it still plays quite well. CPU is a stock 4770k

At what resolution?

On the fighting - I'm looking forward to giving it a shot. In the tutorial part of TW2 I actually couldn't complete part of it. I tended to use combat oriented potions and never any bombs or traps etc. Just sword play combat + the signs, usually. Over time, TW2 combat became much easier - I'm hoping for more of a smooth transition in TW3.

I'm at work (a few hours left!) and the in-laws are visiting, so...it'll be a few days before I can really sink my teeth into this one.

I guess I wasn't clear. I meant: can you really use them at the same time. Not just plugged in. But e.g. can you walk with the gamepad while looking with the mouse at the same time ? Can you fight by clicking a mouse-button and pressing a gamepad-button at the same time ?

(I'm asking because if that is possible, I can program my joystick to look like a gamepad, and do analog walking-speeds. And emulate keyboard-presses for abilities. I might also be able to program easier dodging). Anyway, I'm gonna pick up my game in an hour or so. So I should be able to test it myself soon enough.

That I don't have an answer to as I've not tried it. I feel like it's going to be one or the other though as it swaps around button mapping and the onscreen hints, etc. If someone else doesn't I'll try it later today.

If you can take a screen of your settings I'd like to adjust mine the same when I get the game. I have the same card so wondering how it plays.

If you have the tutorials turned on, in the first inn that you are in you can play a gwent player and it will have a tutorial while playing.

@Mem - Not that I have seen, but I have only played about 2hrs last night

Yeah, that annoys me too as well. Expecially for the map.

My retail copy is stuck somewhere in the post,so have you guys encountered any game bugs yet?

I haven't yet, luckily. Everything is running great on my rig..

A few tips though for those that haven't played it:

1) Disable Blur and enable sharpness if you want the game to look as good as possible. And believe me, this game will look AMAZING on your monitor!

2) It uses a similar, but much more refined combat system as the Witcher 2. So that means you can chain combos after every successful hit to speed up your attacks.. It's harder to do it in the Witcher 3 though, as Geralt attacks significantly faster than he did in the Witcher 2.

3) If you have an Xbox controller, I suggest using it as it is the PERFECT controller for this game. As for K&M, haven't tried it as my Xbox One controller works so well with it..

Hey Rick, try disabling blur and enabling sharpness if you want the game to look as nice as possible. The blur option does exactly what it says..

Here's my first screenshot, and this is with everything maxed @ 1440p but with blur, CA and vignette disabled..

This was unlocked for me yesterday, but I didn't get any time to play. =( New monitor being delivered today and I'm sure I will spend far too long late into the night playing today.

Can anyone confirm 21:9 support?

Yeah, that annoys me too as well. Expecially for the map.

I find that esc key sometimes bugs out/doesn't take you back to previous, and will keep you in the current menu. For Map, I just stick with M button. It will open and close the one map, while esc out of it will take a tour through all of the menus Very annoying.

What I can tell you is 1.5GB is not enough for 1080P. The game for me is using 2.2-2.5GB. I have not seen it go under 2.2 on my afterburner graph. This is with most setting on High on my HD7950.

EDIT: Should note that it may be using extra vram for caching or something.

Just noticed a weird graphic issue, when walking over ferns. It seems that most grasses, shrubs, ferns etc are crushable--they actually bend and move as Geralt walks by, which is nice. But specifically with Ferns, I'm seeing little vortexes every time Geralt steps on one. Instead of a nice animation, it looks like a base clone stamp tool that blurs the space with each step.

I have Blur and CA off--could these be the tools that control this type of animation? This doesn't happen with shrubs, small trees, and even tall grasses. Very specifically with ferns that I have noticed, so far.

If anyone wants to test, here is a nice...not very spoilery area: There is
A place of power---marked by the question mark on Map--just south west of the burned village where you fight the noonwraith. Near this place of power is an abandoned Griffin's Nest that you can investigate. Ferns and tall grasses and bushes surround the nest

Only one major one (steam overlay does not work, trying to open it made the graphics driver crash) and a handful of minor ones:

  • Ran into a few places where I seemed to hit an invisible wall on horseback and couldn't move forward.
  • Noticed one time when I was indoors that a NPC just outside the window was loaded with very low detail textures, etc, but the guys beside him were fine.
  • If you click and drag the map, drag until your cursor leaves the map, then release the mouse button, you stay in drag mode.
  • The inventory has zoomed out view, and a zoomed in view that shows item details. To leave the inventory you have to hit Esc twice (zoomed in -> zoomed out -> leave inventory) but any mouse movement after hitting Esc the first time makes the inventory go back to zoomed in mode.
  • I think a few of the tutorial prompts have popped up multiple times for me, but maybe this is intentional.

So I was fighting the guys up by the broken down castle near the starting point and I died. But I didn't come back as myself. Instead I was one of the henchmen? My dead body was at the feet of the guy that killed me, but the camera and everything was locked to the guy that killed me. I was not able to exit to menu or anything. I had to force quite the game.

Has anybody else had this happen?

Whoa....settle down there, son. GTA 5 looks better without a doubt but vanilla Skyrim doesn't.

IMO the game would look better if it wasn't so bright. All the colors are very vivid and vibrant which looks kinda out of place in a grim fantasy setting.

Having a blast with the quests though.

I do t think GTA 5 looks better at all. The character models, textures, lighting, water are all better here. There is a difference in art direction which could cause a preference to be observed but technically speaking this game is more visually impressive. Even a modded skyrim has basically flat textures all over the place. They look good because of resolution only.

Running it at mostly high settings on a 780TI and an i7 3770k (@4.2GHZ) at 1920x1200. Looks pretty good and frames are decent (estimated 45-60 frames 99% of the time). Turned off blur (makes me ill), hairworks only on Geralt, shadows to medum, SSAO, water and terrain detail on ultra. Likely going to turn hairworks off until there is a patch or a driver that better supports Kepler GPUS for this game.

Not going to update my GPU for a single game. No matter how good it might be. And if the rumors concerning NVIDIA ceasing to support high end Kepler GPUs turn out to be true, I might never buy another NVIDIA GPU.
