Schnikes, after the rigamarole regarding the graphics with this game, I'm surprised *anyone* is enjoying it.

Downsides:

- I'm only 3/4 of the way through DA:I
- I'm gaming on a 660ti

Oh cmon.it was never about the graphics.

Hey guys...thinking of picking this game up..I have read that you can't rebind many keys including the movement keys. Is this true? Very, very disapointed for a AAA PC game. I'm a lefty and I always remap WASD to IJKL. Is there any way around this other than autohotkey?

If you're off the beaten path running on foot or galloping on Roach and all of a sudden the game seems to experience a slight inexplicable blip or sudden pause that lasts maybe half a second (due to a 5 FPS drop), then you may want to consider lowering your shadow setting.....at least until CDPR optimizes it a bit more..

After much testing, I narrowed it down to the shadows being on ultra that was causing it. The shadow rendering distance to be more specific, which corresponds to this ini. tweak:

CascadeShadowFadeTreshold=1

Lowering that setting ameliorates the problem, increasing it exacerbates it. Now this only seems to occur in certain off beat areas, and I think the reason for that is that CDPR spent most of their time optimize the shadow maps for places where the player would most normally travel. But if you go off the beaten path, then you could encounter this annoying problem..

Overclocking my GPUs did not help either, which surprised me.. The only thing that got rid of it was to drop shadow quality from ultra to high.. That said I'm still going to play on ultra shadow settings as it's a minor problem (albeit annoying) that only manifests in certain locations..

Thnx Oubadah!..ugh!..I see IJKL is locked down. not an option. Quick question...how about the movement keys, can they be remaped?. the arrow keys are an option, but I have to reach for keys with this config. because of the spacing. I will research if I can modify the INI for this.

I am ridding myself of lefty remapping so I can just use the default settings by renovating my office an adding a new desk setup with a locking pull-out keyboard and mouse tray so I can slid the keyboard to the right and lock it in place to give me enough arm space between the mouse and default keyboard settings. won't be finished this project for a few weeks. I'll just have to wait out my desire to play this...

The key mapping gui is rather flawed. Besides not letting you remap certain keys, it isn't "aware" of multi-function keys. For example, space has about 4 different actions depending on context. If you want to rebind space to something else it clears all of those bindings. However, the binds are stored in a simple settings file so you can edit it to do whatever you want.

This game feels and runs like shit. The camera is terrible, movement is terrible, the game feels jittery even at 60fps. Not to mention the fact that as I expected the graphics are pretty shit much like The Witcher 2.

Got in about two hours. Liking it so far. My only compliant is the ultra widescreen support is spotty at best. The HUD doesn't extend beyond 16:9 and the in engine cutscenes have side letterbox.

I don't have this game yet (waiting until I finish TW2), but I have a similar experience in GTA V, and have had it before in other games.

It's not the game itself, not entirely, it's a hardware/driver configuration that causes issue with a particular game. Some games are more susceptible than others.

Battlefield 3/4 were smooth for me, yet the Heaven 4.0 benchmark had micro-stuttering on my 290x Crossfire configuration. It took GTA V forcing me to troubleshoot that I discovered that making sure HPET was disabled in both Windows and EFI/BIOS resulted in BF3/4 becoming that much smoother (on the graph, didn't seem better or to suggest it was worse before, but it was very smooth for sure). Haven't had success in getting GTA V butter smooth just yet, though I haven't checked for any patches in about a week as I was out of town or doing other things.

Point being, I haven't seen microstuttering being a common theme in discussions about TW3, so I would definitely look into software and hardware configurations.

Pretty nice. I only had a little over an hour to play with it tonight, my settings are all at high with a few set higher, Like I knew I could go ultra on textures and I switched to hbao+. I am using the AA and motion blur but I am keeping blur and sharpen off, imo they just do nothing but hide the original image information. My frame rates have been really high for all scenes except the ship and the portal which looks like it was just a badly optimized scene.

So far the AA and shadows are nice, although I am hoping something can be done to get some shadows on all grass, and not just bushes and up (flashbacks from oblivion days). IMO the most impressive thing I have seen so far is the sun crawl. The game has long days which I love because it means I can spend my time doing what I want without worrying about NPCs disappearing suddenly because 15 minutes passed and its night time (I'm looking at you, skyrim!). Previous games have either updated the light direction and shadows at either a much slower rate then the framerate, or in games like GTA the game uses a heafty dose of low resolution shadows to keep the frame rates tolerable. Witcher 3 uses some pretty detailed shadow mask textures with an impressive smoothing filter and at the same time has no problem with a sun that updates at least 30 times a second.

One thing that is kind of a let down, the foliage animations do not create a convincing effect of wind, there is always that one wild bush and it seems like every plant has a mind of its own.

Seems common, GTA V had the same strict cutscene ratios.

And while it may be annoying for those 21:9 displays, I love a true 16:9 HUD on a 48:9 setup (3x1080p surround/eyefinity), stretched HUDs can be very bad.
A good thing would be an option to have both, stretched for 21:9 but an ability to lock it in for multi-monitor.

So I'm not sure if some of you having issues are simply driver issues.

I'm running 2500k@4.2 / 8gb / with an OC'd 480 @ 1920x1080. Once I disabled hairworks, I'm running on ultra with blur off and everything is running great. GPU is pushing 99% the whole time so I'm guessing I'm not getting anywhere close to 60, but there is no stutter.

I got the game for free but I'm holding off installing it. I think I will wait until the first few patches drop. Have they announced any timeline on forthcoming patches?

I literally just hit level 5 and I'm 11 hours in. Ultimately it seems like level isn't as meaningful in this game as many other RPGs. Biggest mobs I've seen so far were about level 14-15 (a basilisk and some kind of hag). I tried fighting them just to see if it was remotely possible. They were taking off probably 30-40% of my health per hit, so with actual preparation it would definitely be doable to kill them at level 4-5.

No, armor smiths and sword smiths are separate. I haven't actually found a sword smith yet.

Edit: Also, had my first actual crash just now. Game randomly locked up and stopped responding in the inventory.

The first Blacksmith is at the Nilfgaardian camp where you accept the contract from the captain when asking about Yenneffer. You can't miss him, you go there as part of the main quest line.

A couple things, does anyone else find the camera slightly annoying at times? Like when you are trying to loot a box and you run slightly over it and the option disappears and you have to rotate the camera around and it kind of fights you? Also sometimes when you are moving around corners indoors, it fights you when it sort of zooms in. Also the fall damage...how can dropping 6 feet kill a Witcher. "Hey guys I'm a badass sword fighter who can kill any beast and take on an army of men single handedly, but I have weak ankles so if I trip over a rock I'm done for". Lastly the combat itself, I hold block/parry but sometimes still get hit. I'm not sure how that mechanic works as it seems way too hit or miss when I attempt to use it. When fighting humans it works fine though most of the time. Maybe I need to just dodge instead but at times that moves Geralt way too far away from the enemy and you can't attack from that distance.

I had one crash but it was not related to the game. Nvidia driver failed and reset itself(I had played the game for 5 hours straight before the crash). Never happened again.

I got the game for free but I'm holding off installing it. I think I will wait until the first few patches drop. Have they announced any timeline on forthcoming patches?

What exactly are you expecting them to patch?

Playing on Deathmarch. The bear and noonwraith were easy. Packs of ghouls and drowners, on other hand, are petty much the worst thing ever.

I'm disappointed in the foliage. Somehow I got the impression from the pre-release material that they had completely ditched that cheap player tracking bullshit that was used in the first two games, but that isn't the case at all. It's not quite as bad, because this time they used some kind of hybrid foliage where there is some proper foliage and a bunch of player tracking transparencies to fill it out, but points off for that all the same.

That speedtree logo is like a mark of inferior quality.

Not sure what you mean by "player tracking". At a distance the foliage looks good, but it is very two dimensional up close. As mentioned the constant wind is very unnatural. Graphically that's my only real complaint. I turn off Chromatic Aberration and Vignet and am pleased with the result. May also turn off the blur as I have seen the screen go overboard with it when I got hit by the guys wielding an axe. Caused me to lose track of my target etc.
