Personally I just like having one client with my entire library of games all on it rather than split it all up between various clients which each have their own UI and user experience. Seems fragmented and counter intuitive for any type of gaming system. Imagine if Xbox had games separated between different UI's and accounts... not my kinda thing anyway.

I am just asking though that what u guys think who sold more Witcher 3 GOG or steam?

Worldwide I may say GOG because it's a DRM free game to begin with and doesn't require the client to run. Steam and Valve have gotten some bad press lately and I'd think that some people would rather not use it if they had the option. Steam is probably more popular in North America though so it's hard to say.

I found a way to get rid of the constant message popping up: "keyboard and mouse detected. changing control scheme".

In your Documents\The Witcher 3\ folder there is a file called: user.settings
In that file find the section: [Hidden]
And add a line:
LockControlScheme=1

When I use that, I won't get the pop-up message every second anymore.
You can still use a mix of gamepad, keyboard and mouse.
Downside is that all explanations with key-assignments are now not for keyboard anymore, but for gamepad keys. No big deal.

.

oh thank you thank you thank you--you are a scholar and a gentleman, sir.

also going to check out the SweetFX thing in a bit--I was looking at that the other day and it seems to get the color tone all right. I agree--this game is way too saturated. Though, I'm thinking that whatever big texture/visuals patch CDPR will put out in the near future will incorporate a lot of this? I'm wondering if I should just wait for something official; or if I'll be burned out by that time to really enjoy the proper look.

I prefer the saturation to what they show on the SweetFX page. That looks washed out and bland. The issue is the overall look and palette is just..meh.

I'm usually a 60fps or bust kinda guy, so I was very concerned about playing TW3 on my OC'd G3258 and 280x.

At 1080P with PostProcessing set to High and the Graphics Options set to High, with hairworks off and vsync on, i get stedy 45-50fps outdoors and drops down to low 40's in towns.

Plays very well and looks great. I would not hold off to simply play at Ultra or a higher framerate.

It's odd because on one end I was reading a Titan X is needed for 1080p smooth sailing at ultra, but the game scales very well IME. 7870 should do Medium Settings fine.

I've always been a budget enthusiast kinda guy. I'm not concerned with 60 fps on Ultra but I'd like to hit that at least on High settings. With TW2 my card had ALMOST enough power to manage Ubersampling. Having to settle on medium for this game just...doesn't sit well for me. FEAR started this trend for me way back when and I'm okay with keeping up.

I should say I'm not JUST holding off for the GPU upgrade. I've sunk almost 150 hours into the FFXIII trilogy and I'm done with the majority of the third game. If I drop it now I'll have to restart the third one. And I still have Crysis 3, Mass Effect 3, and Dead Space 3 sitting on my backlog to finish up. Not that I'll finish all those before Witcher, but I'd like to thin it down a bit.

I am running i5 2500k, thinking about upgrading to i5 4690k for this game. Do it or no?

That's going to be a big NO. This game isn't CPU intensive to begin with. But if you're going to upgrade at least move to an i7 Platform for the games ahead and for the few that are seeing some gains from the i7 now.

There are a zillion SweetFX presets to chose from. And you can make your own. Or tweak an existing one. It's not easy to make a proper preset, because you're over-doing stuff so easily. Like over-saturating colors. Or under-saturating, in this case. But some people really know what they are doing. And it's worth checking out their presets.

Also, colors depend a great deal on your monitor. I have recently bought a colorimeter, and calibrated my display. The preset I've linked does a nice job, imho. Maybe it doesn't look good on other monitors. Or when people have changed colors/brightness/saturation on the nvcontrol panel.

I think it's best to just check it out.
It takes maybe 5 minutes to install.
And it's easy to disable if you don't like it.

PS. Here's a page with screenshots of different games.

He uses SweetFX and ReShade. (And other tools, like DSR).
It seems he's playing The Witcher 3 too.
Now tell me, do those screenshots look good or not ?

Think I have a second bugged quest. This one a witcher contract. I killed the monster before I accepted the contract. So I told the guy I already took care of it. Guy paid me but I never got the quest completion. It's sitting in my unfinished quests and talking to the NPC again does nothing. he just acts like a normal peasent walking around the town and says "lots of them monsters about" or something.

Man...I'm beginning to think they expected people to check all the towns before they explore any. Like whoever play tested it did everything in order and didn't discover any places through random chance. Thus the programming for some quests is off. I guess I can chalk it up to it being CDPR's first open world game. Bound to have a few things that don't quite work out with so many variables in play style.

what GPU? And are u running all ultra settings? What does hair works do?
1920x1080..7970ghz sapphire card. I have textures on high, sharpeness on high, grass and terrain detail on ultra, hbao, blur off, everything else on high. Plays and looks great, haven't checked my fps as I've not needed to. Oh and frame set to unlimited, number of characters to ultra. No slowdown either, I'm enjoying it a lot. I thought I would need to upgrade too but I just haven't been able to yet..been also playing a lot of my ps4 games lately as well and this is the first game I've played on my PC in a long time since I built it.

So played a solid chunk tonight. Great news is I didn't crash once. Performance has been really solid for me, i'm running everything high with a few exceptions like hbao+ and ultra textures, unlocked frame rate. With the latest patch I had no issue with hairworks on the griffon fight. I really gotta hand it to the lighting in this game though, amazing stuff. I think its because I don't think I've seen a game that illuminated the backside of leaves. I'm sure its nothing like a surface scatter shader but rather the lighting engine illuminating both sides of the texture, but it makes the trees and forest look that much more awesome. Ditto with indoors, when in the castle I couldn't find any lighting inconsistencies, and the candle flicker was just right (one step away from realtime flame disturbance from walking near them).

I kind of wish a little more time was spent on the character models of non essential characters. Some of the faces are really amazing like the ambassadors, but some are just meh. Btw I read alot of talk about this sprite grass that turns based on the camera view points. This is something I've seen a number of times in World of warcraft too and hated it. However as much as I tried..I could not find this grass type. Everything on the ground was dropped in a pattern of all directions and did not change based on my camera or character. My settings are on high, you think this could be something on medium and lower settings?

That fix for tessellation on AMD cards really helped with Hairworks. Everything maxed except SSAO instead of HBAO+, Hairworks set to all, and at 1080p. Averaging 45-50 fps with a single 290.

Yeah, when that topic was brought up in this thread the other day I went in game looking for player facing foliage billboards and couldn't find any. Ultra settings here.

Is it me or the last patch helped A LOT with the visuals? Damn it's looking even better than a couple of days before.

Actually I believe the "fix" was the default MXAA setting being set to 8x instead of 16x. At least that what it looks like in the ini, I set it from 16x to 0x beforehand and when I patched to 1.3 it had set it to 8x.

Oh CD Projekt, you kinky dev you:

20hrs in, apart from that one crash no issues; runs and looks a bit better after patch 1.03. Unlike Inquisition *cough* *cough* patches are out within a week of release not a month.
