I found a way to get rid of the constant message popping up: "keyboard and mouse detected. changing control scheme".
In your Documents\The Witcher 3\ folder there is a file called: user.settings
In that file find the section: [Hidden]
And add a line:
LockControlScheme=1
When I use that, I won't get the pop-up message every second anymore.
You can still use a mix of gamepad, keyboard and mouse.
Downside is that all explanations with key-assignments are now not for keyboard anymore, but for gamepad keys. No big deal.

I am on a 2500k it seems fine for me.I am running i5 2500k, thinking about upgrading to i5 4690k for this game. Do it or no?
I'm usually a 60fps or bust kinda guy, so I was very concerned about playing TW3 on my OC'd G3258 and 280x.
At 1080P with PostProcessing set to High and the Graphics Options set to High, with hairworks off and vsync on, i get stedy 45-50fps outdoors and drops down to low 40's in towns.
Plays very well and looks great. I would not hold off to simply play at Ultra or a higher framerate.
It's odd because on one end I was reading a Titan X is needed for 1080p smooth sailing at ultra, but the game scales very well IME. 7870 should do Medium Settings fine.

There are a zillion SweetFX presets to chose from. And you can make your own. Or tweak an existing one. It's not easy to make a proper preset, because you're over-doing stuff so easily. Like over-saturating colors. Or under-saturating, in this case. But some people really know what they are doing. And it's worth checking out their presets.I prefer the saturation to what they show on the SweetFX page. That looks washed out and bland. The issue is the overall look and palette is just..meh.
1920x1080..7970ghz sapphire card. I have textures on high, sharpeness on high, grass and terrain detail on ultra, hbao, blur off, everything else on high. Plays and looks great, haven't checked my fps as I've not needed to. Oh and frame set to unlimited, number of characters to ultra. No slowdown either, I'm enjoying it a lot. I thought I would need to upgrade too but I just haven't been able to yet..been also playing a lot of my ps4 games lately as well and this is the first game I've played on my PC in a long time since I built it.what GPU? And are u running all ultra settings? What does hair works do?
Btw I read alot of talk about this sprite grass that turns based on the camera view points. This is something I've seen a number of times in World of warcraft too and hated it. However as much as I tried..I could not find this grass type. Everything on the ground was dropped in a pattern of all directions and did not change based on my camera or character. My settings are on high, you think this could be something on medium and lower settings?
That fix for tessellation on AMD cards really helped with Hairworks. Everything maxed except SSAO instead of HBAO+, Hairworks set to all, and at 1080p. Averaging 45-50 fps with a single 290.
