not a fan of this direction of PC gaming in general.
You're not a fan of giving people the option of DRM-free games? The only AAA big budget title in recent history with no DRM at all, and you're against it? Seriously? If people were posting that stuff en masse several years back, we'd all be stuck with activation limits, "you have to be online to save", "please call this number to activate", etc, cr*p for each one of their 300 games...

there needs to be one official hub everybody uses.
No really, there doesn't. We've seen what "direction" Steam are trying to steer towards with attempts at platform lock-in of formerly-free turned paid mods... You don't even need GOG Galaxy to download GOG games, so GOG isn't really a "hub" at all. As for being frightened of downloading files manually, how do you cope with other commonly installed software like VLC, MPC-HC, 7Zip, WinRAR, Handbrake, etc? Surely it's not that hard to click on a link in a web browser?

you even have cases where Steam users cant do multiplayer with Origin users in some games ie. Shift 2. its like having playstation vs xbox on PC.
ROTT allows cross-play multi-player between Steam & GOG. No reason why other games can't (except developer laziness or 'encouragement' from Valve not to). :whiste:

I'd say steam since its more popular also gog galaxy is beta and didn't work for me that well.

Hard to say since retail version is based on GOG.com,throw in Origin as well that also have TW3.

Retail does not need Galaxy FYI(optional).

Been getting the odd nvlddmkm crash from the start, but the last time it happened there was a whole raft of errors logged instead of the usual 1. Thought I'd update to the TW3 certified driver until I read the feedback thread for it on Nvidia's forum. Now I think I'll stick with 347.88 after all. Better the devil you know, and it's not like the 347.88 is causing blue screens or anything catastrophic. The screen just goes black, and I can soft shut down the PC properly with the case button.

EDIT: How come, when I'm minding my own business in Novigrad, random townsfolk will have fits and run off screaming? Also, sometimes I'm randomly attacked by clowns.

Very stable on my 280x OC card even with the old 14.12s drivers, only had one freeze when in inventory and tried the unlimited frame settings suggested here to fix that issue which is working so far(well known game issue btw).

Overall very happy with stability and even game performance,ie most on ultra settings@1080p getting 60fps indoors and 45 to 50 fps outdoors.

Using FRAPs to benchmark it.

all of the sudden i am quite upset my version of The Witcher isnt the Steam version
You're upset that you have ownership rights that no-one can take away from you?

Does the possibility of NSA spying being shut down also upset you?

not a fan of this direction of PC gaming in general.
You're not a fan of having consumer rights?

Watch out for the game spontaneously resetting itself to borderless windowed mode. I noticed the game stuttering like crazy after a regular launch, saw that it was running at 60Hz, and finally realized that the damned thing had reset to borderless windowed. It did it after the patch, which I didn't think much of at the time, but this time it was completely out of the blue. I hope it doesn't become a trend.

I have not had that issue so far,btw I'm running it in full screen mode, only thing I hate is when you get to edge of map areas and the stupid map pops up,had that happen when fighting five wolves which is annoying to say the least in combat.

There are bandits in town and I think people are supposed to act afraid of witchers.

Happened to me too once. It looked off, not as sharp for some reason until I realized the settings was on 1080 windowed. Took me a while to understand why.

Patch notes did say it made boarderless window the default mode, thats why it was changed for you.

I wonder if I should play Skyrim before this game. Might be hard to go back.

I wouldn't think so. The games are pretty different. I still feel SKYRIM does a better job at giving the player a sense of exploration and the soundtrack is definitely better. The combat, graphics, and story telling are much better in the TW3.

On another note, I had to revert back to the 350.12 drivers, as the new TW3 based drivers were giving me crashes, but noticeably less stutter.

For me the game resets to borderless windowed mode every single time I start it.

Seems like this is a common issue. For some reason I cannot even set the game to full screen @ 1440p. Every time I try, it defaults right back to borderless windowed mode. Yet, when I change the resolution to 1080p, it stays full screen until I restart the game, same problem you're having.

If you pay attention to random NPC chatter as you walk around, probably half of it is insults and threats aimed in your direction. No, witchers aren't very popular at all... til you need one.

Eh? Where did you see this? Patch notes didn't say anything about making borderless windows the default mode. That would be ridiculous.

If you're encountering stuttering or hitching, try these settings. They work really well for me, but only for NVidia users unless AMD has equivalent settings.

1) In the Witcher 3 game profile, put max prerendered frames to 3, and power management to maximum performance.. Setting the max prerendered frames to 3 will increase input lag slightly, but it will make the game smoother as the CPU is now prerendering more frames ahead and keeping the GPU(s) busy..

2) In the graphics menu in the game, make sure the frame rate limiter is always set to unlimited. Using the frame rate lock increases the amount of frame latency from my experience.. One exception may be for those that wish to play at 30 FPS though.

3) If you have Vsync enabled like I do, use the in game version. It's better than the GPU control panel version in my experience in terms of keeping input lag to a minimum..

From my time with the game, it seems the stuttering is related to CPU usage more than anything. The game seems to have difficulty using the CPU for all the animations, physics and keeping the GPU(s) well fed.

A game like this should have much higher CPU utilization I believe, so it's something that CDPR will have to further optimize..
