It doesn't add much to be honest, it just a harder version of the game with the item and enemy level scaling going up to around 70.

The Nvidia AA is crap.

in-game or hardware? Is there a difference if you have an NVidia card vs AMD?

I usually have an AMD card, and I sort of 50/50 force hardware or use in-game. TBH, I rarely notice a difference unless I have AA completely off and everything just looks bad.

No, its not about the card, but the type of AA used. It doesnt seem to do much of anything but blur everything to Sovngarde.

right, so you can just use and force hardware AA then, no? Ignore the in-game AA.

Yeah, you could do that. I havent thought of that, although I tend to avoid trying to force driver settings, because they often are incompatible with games, and can cause bugs, glitches, and other problems.

Spending a good portion of my adult life (adult as in physically not necessarily mentally) keeping up to speed on all the various mods I installed on the last game version. Now I can do it all over again with patch 1.2.

Also noticed unless you have your mod webpages bookmarked in the Nexus Witcher 3 site it's a bit of work to look up each one to see if the mods got updated to v1.2, if you've got a lot of mods that is.

Got quite a few crashes since this latest patch. Found an abandoned site that will repeatedly crash after you complete it and have to meditate to wait for the people to come back. Regardless I just nabbed my full set of Cat school Grandmaster gear. Love the hood.

I'm having a great time with the expansion. Haven't experienced any crashes. Minor bug I noticed sometimes to redraw a card in gwent the mouse click doesn't register so I hit the space bar.

Impressed with detail, some of the "punch" is lost in compression:

just looking at some of the new grandmaster bonuses for the witcher gear--i currently only have access to ursine and Griffin.

...why do the Ursine bonuses only effect Quen? I never really liked that set because I prefer the max DPS from the light sets, but it seems that Quen is least useful on Ursine? I guess I just don't know the playstyle--do you spend more time in monster's faces pummeling away because you don't get to kill things as fast with the lower crit chance?

What's with the strange sky color?

It's an entirely new local with an intentionally different climate from the mainland areas of the base game.

It is supposed to be similar to an idyllic Mediterranean-like countryside. I haven't started it yet, but it was advertised as the "vacation destination" of Temeria...or something like that.

I think it is supposed to be a set designed to make you a tank like character.

That's what I thought at first, but then I remembered that at earlier master level, the armor rating for all classes was the same.

Assuming that is the case with these new Grandmaster Legendary sets, I wonder what the point is for being a "tank" (with a refreshing Quen being the only tanky thing), when you could just pop Quen and kill things way faster with light armor sets.

I guess I need to try maxed out Quen build with this to see how effective it is.

Quen was mostly useful in early game, but I found late game that learning how to dodge, roll and parry properly was generally more effective, reserving sign stamina for things like Igni to melt armor or Aard/Yrden for cc.

--I do like the looks of the new character traits for max Yrden when standing in the field.

I just started the first expansion, man I'm going to miss this series. Its been an amazing decade of Witcher games and this is probably the best way to send it off into the sunset.

I know and now every western rpg in a fantasy setting will be compared to the witcher 3 and I don't think hey can measure up. I'm gonna seriously have a tough time finally uninstalling the game when I finish the second expansion.

Im waiting to buy all the expansions and upgrade my gpu before continuing the game. I'm still very early on anyway. I think it will be kept installed for a while.

I usually don't like RPG games but this one is a huge exception. The devs are very skilled and put a lot of effort to perfect it, despite it being a small studio.

You already have a 7970, I am pretty sure you do not need to upgrade your GPU to play this game.

I need to upgrade it in general. I'm not getting all the settings I want maxed with decent fps. Plus it's something I had in mind doing anyways.

yeah wait for that 480/480x or maybe 490/490x, hope you get one within the 5 seconds the entire stock sells out, and further hope not to have to pay $400-600 for one on July 1.

FWIW, I run a 280x and play this at Ultra except for shaders medium, hardware AA, and Hairworks off (no one runs hairworks) @ 1080 and it runs/looks great. ...no fps to give you because I don't care about tracking that crap. not sure how that compares to your 7970, but take that for what it is.

I think the 3gb VRAM is minimum for this. Could probably use more...but maybe not.

Well I'll wait for 480 fps bench marks and the 1070 benchmarks separate comparison so I choose between one. I may have to wait until July at the rate things are going with releases.

I hear ya. I'm waiting for the 490 or 490x, I think, assuming those come out at the ~$300 target that is *supposed* to top out the Polaris chips, and the current limited details are to be believed.

However, I fully expect Polaris chips to be essentially unavailable for the first 2 or even 3 months....at MSRP, anyway. But I'm in no need to upgrade right now, so I can wait. Plenty of time to make fair comparisons. I'm getting the idea that nVidia has pushed themselves into a 1 year lifespan with their current architecture....at least according to the smartest smartypants people around here.

I like to hang on to hardware for 3-5 years. NVidia has never really fit my profile because of this.

I'm the same way. Bought this card and kept it for 4+ years and I like that. I'm sure amd has more than just variants in memory for the 480. At 250 to 300 they must have something a bit more powerful, well see.
