Loot everything, plants, items etc, you are going to need the coin and materials to get the best potions. Sell items to the corresponding vendor for most coin, weapons to blacksmiths, armors to armorers.

I wouldn't worry about alchemy early on, once you start making decoctions the skill that increases toxicity per recipe known is a godsend. Stacking two decoctions and using healing potions can make for interesting combinations.

If you are having trouble with general difficulty, don't hesitate in putting points into quen(shield skil).

healing quen is OP

Do I need the DLC? Am I missing anything if I start out with the base game?
No not really the dlc just opens new quests and stuff along the way. At any point when you install it you can see the new quests in your journal. You can also travel back to areas if you did happen to miss something.

Blood and Wine is great for a brand new area to explore, very good storyline and the new enhanced mutation skills line you can get, dye armour plus all the Grandmaster Witcher armour/weapons.

Also has some closure for Geralt of Rivia (without spoilers).

However Blood and Wine you can purchased later after you have done the main storyline of W3.

Well quick question about this. I got near to the end the first time before deciding to wait for the dlc, to finish it all at once. Well now I decided to just play all the way through again, but given that, would it be better to finish main game first then Blood and Wine? Or the opposite? No spoilers needed, just curious about the best order.

Personally I think it's better to play Blood and Wine last, the levels there are high 30s to 40s, I believe recommended is level 35, also note Blood and Wine has different endings(without spoilers) depending on what you decide to do while playing through the DLC.

I bought both expansions and started a new game last weekend. Going a little slower this time through, have just now finished White Orchard and got into the main world. Is it just me or have they nerfed death march a bit? It isn't a cake walk, still very little margin for error in many fights, but overall it feels easier than I remember.

did you start a new new game, or new game+?

Death March is incredibly easy with New Game + (just started that myself recently, and I think I am about to finish Hearts of Stone after having gone through main quest and made it up to level 64 just doing those story missions, contracts, most secondaries and such).

Bought the core game and made it to level 6. Played until about 2am last night. Got as far as the dungeon level with Keira.

Level 1 new game.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Could be that it just feels easier because you already know how to play after going through the campaign once already. I think I first started on the difficulty just under Death March and bumped it up ~level 15 or so.

After playing through Hearts of Stone and now some 15%? into Blood and Wine, I would say it is definitely more difficult with the new types of enemies, but a lot of that also has to do with massive HP pools and enemy mechanics...plus a lot of them are variations of wolves/nekkers (the mobby, swarming, non responsive enemies that keep attacking even after you strike them. Hate them with great fury).

Finished replaying the whole Witcher 3 again and just finished Hearts of Stones, now playing for the first time Blood and Wine. I don't want this game to end at all :'( such an amazing game!

By the way I am drinking red dry wine and eating white cheese while playing Witcher 3 Blood and Wine! lol

Wait, is there another way to play this game? Do people actually play sober?

Yeah, I usually play this while drinking stouts and I always slot ales, liquors and wines or raw meat in one of my quick slots. I use it to keep my vitality up and the screen all boozy.

Really want to pick up where I left off in this game but I'm holding off until I get a new GPU just because.

Also I've started to watch game of thrones which made me want to play even more. I'll just be distracted by the side quests when I do pick up again, I know it.

I just finished the main game a couple of nights ago. Really, really well done. I bought the two DLCs during the last GoG sale but I figured I would give this game a break for a bit. I had something like 110 hours in the main quest.

Anyhow, I picked up Fallout 4 during the recent Steam sale but that game seems so unpolished compared to TW3. I'm sure FO4 will be good, but I think it really shows just how good TW3 is all-around that I am having a really hard time getting into anything else. I should probably just do a couple of ToME runs. That always seems to get my mind reset for something new.

Fallout 4 is good with all it's faults. But like all bethesda games, I hit that point of feeling pretty godlike, the main quest seems to keep spawning infinite quests. I lose interest, I just start screwing around nuking towns.

BTW, something you must all try once in F4. In brotherhood of steel questline, after you get in the airship. Hopefully you stock piled mini nukes and you also have enough thievery to break into the armory on the ship. Steal everything you can. Get in power armor. Then, carefully lay mines everywhere on the ship. Ok, get back into the armory. Toss a nade or whatever and watch the bodies hit the floor. Hunker down in that room with a gauss rifle or whatever you want. watch more and more bodies hit the floor.

Then, the best part once you have completed laid waste to the inside....go outside. now the ENTIRE airport below will be hailing lasers up at you. Really funny...felt like something out of a movie. That is when you start launching mini nukes at the airport below. All I could think in my head was music ringing.."Flash!!!! Ahhhh-ahhhhh!!!! pew pew pew". I have a warped mind.

That was the last I played...figured I probably broke my game at that point. Don't care

Anyway, Witcher 3 is awesome. Why do I keep avoiding going back to it? I don't know. Got a long ways to go in that game

This really is the best game I have played in a long time, and the two expansions are now the best in terms of price/content I have ever seen. it really is remarkable and I'd now say better than the Borderlands series with what they do with their fantastic DLC/expansions.

It seems to me that Toussaint is actually bigger than Skellige and with more content. And the best part is that the POIs and contracts/quests aren't the same type of recycled stuff from the main game. They are, in themselves a bit recycled (A lot of similar "vineyard corruption" stuff and "rescue this knight,") but it is still very different from the type of stuff you find in the main games. The larger quests and contracts are still rather unique in themselves and I find myself unexpectedly surprised how new and innovative it feels compared to the main game, while still maintaining the same core mechanics.

Stuff like the Carvoliterre Bank sidequest are what make these CDProjekt games phenomenal: Great attention to humor, modern frustrations, and all without breaking lore/immersion.

It was one of my favorite parts of the game. Especially Priscilla and helping her out.

Oh, my sweet summer child.

I approve of your reasoning here, waiting a little longer to play the game with higher settings/frame rate makes sense to me.
