I picked up a copy of The Witcher recently despite some of the negative criticisms I read. The Witcher sounded enjoyable to me since I like rpgs, especially ones' with a good story and I like to give things a fair shake.
Whether it's a book, a movie, or a game- I finish it. Even when I don't care for it early on, I get to the end, because occasionaly it can get better.
So I played The Witcher from beginning to end...and I wish I hadn't.
The Witcher was one of the most overhyped piles of donkey shat that I've played in the last decade.
The story, while it was decent, did not make up for the gameplay. And while a good story is important to me, I weighed the gameplay heavier in this particular case since I was playing a game and not reading a book.
The combat seemed like a hybrid of diablo and baldur's gate, which sounds great, but in actuality it played about as well as a drunken monkey throws darts.
On the bright side, the game only cost £3.15 and the disc made a good frisbee for my dog, so I guess it wasn't all bad.
