You can use Igni (fire) on them, get them to catch on fire, and then run out of range of their projectiles. You'll likely need to use a Swallow potion as well.

Remember if anybody gets regular crashing ie opening inventory/alchemy or trade etc to try running the game in Windowed mode(works for me and a common solution fix if you check their forums)so far I have only had one crash since using Windowed mode.

Game wise I'm still on ACT 4(or Chapter 4 if you like) and I must say story wise they put a lot of work into this game, nice to see a RPG with a very good story that keeps you interested .

Hmz those plants weren't to much of a hasle, died once I think when 3 spawned and kept shooting at me, but that's it. I didn't even have igni, coz you get that when you fight the golems, which I did after killing the plants. I think the strong style works though, against those plants, I mean they are stationary, would be hard for them to dodge ...

As for the uncensored version, yeah the sex scenes aren't all that explicit, but they get worked about nothing nowadays ...

I'm loving the game too so far, I'm only on the second act. By the way what do I need to get to mix potions, or can I only do this in certain places?

By the way, if any of you guys understand polish, there is a witcher movie out called "wiedzmin" that is based on Sapkowski's books.

ok, I figured out how to make potions by meditation, but I still don't know how to make bombs. I bought and read the scrolls. What else do I need?

Gamezone give it 8.8 rating .

In that regard, The Witcher is a benchmark RPG. It does not belong in the hands of the younger set, if for no other reason than its adult themes. But it is precisely the latter aspect that makes this game so compelling. It feels alive. And even when you?ve made a choice and see the results as they work out in the cut scenes and environments, you begin to realize that what CD Projekt has created is a living, breathing world.

The Witcher is not without some problems, but it is a terrific RPG experience.

One thing I found annoying was my torch in crypts, especially having to re-equip it nearly everytime you looted something.

Anyway there're so many positives to the game that I can overlook minor annoyances.

Just FYI, Atari cut back significant portions of the originally planned dialogue in ALL the English versions to save money on voiceovers.

It seems you can restore the full, unedited dialogue by changing 'Language=FinalEnglish_Short' to 'Language=FinalEnglish_Long' in the Witcher.ini file.

Of course, the voiceovers will not change, just the text.

Good of the dev to put the original text on there.

I'll likely pick up the UK version of the game soon, but I would prefer to run the game in full screen mode, with as much stability as possible.

Windowed mode is not that bad,you can only see a very thin blue line running horizontal across the top edge, all the other sides look like they are in full screen mode.

Rumours in their forums say a patch is due in about 2 weeks time(treat it as a rumour until you see another patch is release).

The crashing problem seems to be more with Vista/Nvidia combo ,anyway Windowed mode should fix it if you are unlucky enough to have the crashing problem.

Yeah I was crashing every hr or so in Vista. Ran it in XP instead and have yet to crash. For me, every game to date has eithe performed better or was more stable in XP vs Vista.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents here. I've not had a single crash in Vista (32-bit) with this game. Infact, the only game I've had sability issues with is Hellgate--but who isnt.

Gamershell give it a nice 8.5 rating .

All in all, there is a lot to say about the Witcher, but even more to do in the game and exploring each area thoroughly is a truly rewarding joy. It also does a very good job of flattening the rocky road of third person RPGs left by its predecessors, despite having its own flaws.
If you are an RPG fan, don?t hesitate for one hour, minute or second about buying this!

I haven't really had an issue either, with vista 64x and 8800gts 320mb. Only thing I know of is that I think it crashed when I quit playing the game, but that's not really an issue, coz I was quitting anyways

the answer has been right in front of you ... perhaps you need the "reveal" skill

Answer = A-T-A-R-I

A-T-A-R-I is evil ... they rushed the game out to save money on beta testing it
-and now it is biting them in the ass - they are deeply in the red
[btw, i know i have been 'pimping Hg:L
- *update* --it has it [un]fair share of network issues :|]

you pays your money and you takes your chances

I ordered the import edition of The Witcher from gogamer.com and it came in a nice DVD style case...the game is a blast and a true RPG for rpg lovers like me . I've had no problem/or crashes running it on my Vista 64-Bit/8800GTS system with patch 1.1a. Infact the load times are even fast for me, around 5-8 seconds.

Yeah it is a nice case. Why can't all PC games come in DVD style cases, the ones that take up 2 slots are just annoying.

And now we have these idiotic HD DVD cases that are smaller than the original DVD case. How many damn media storage racks do they think I want to buy?!
