The worst missed call in the history of professional sports.

Anyone who follows the NBA already knows about this I'm sure, but man this is just unreal that they missed this call AND that they could not get the right call in the replay. I'm guessing this is "not reviewable" for some stupid reason. And to think that had Harden not made an unreal 3pt shot seconds later, the Warriors would have won.

Anyways, I dare anyone to try and top that. The only one I can think of that is close is the catch in the Seahawks vs. Packers where it was CLEARLY intercepted. But those were replacement refs too so there is that. I think this NBA call is worse though for sure.

Damn that is bad, but not quite as bad and obvious as the one from last night. The outcome is, but I mean as far as how obvious the call was.

Lol no way that is worse than Maradona's hand of god.

It's 1000 times worse. The Hand of God play was bang-bang, only one ref who had a bad angle and it was not reviewable. It's easy to miss that call. Same as Gallaraga's perfect game, tough call, could go either way and at the time not reviewable.

That one in the OP is inexplicable. Three refs, so blatant it was impossible to get it wrong and it was reviewed and they still missed it. That's officiating failure on a pretty epic scale.

One goal in world cup quarter final is a lot more valuable than a two point basket in a regular season game. Especially when the missed call did not change the outcome of the game.

So? Reading is fundamental, try it sometime. The thread is not about the most important missed call or the one with the biggest stakes, it's about the WORST call. The Hand of God play you can't see clearly without a reverse angle, slow mo relay. Of course it was missed. The one from the basketball game in the OP is very possibly the worst, most puzzling, inexplicable missed call ever no matter what it meant to the game. It is a call that seems impossible to miss, so it's a novelty. I'd love to hear the NBA's explanation about how that happened and what the refs *thought* they saw.

"the floor is yellow, the uniforms are yellow, the ball is basically yellow. who can see what's happening with all that yellow?"

That will certainly be better than whatever lame-ass excuse the officiating crew comes up with.

I agree...how could they miss that? He took three steps out of bounds, before he one handed it back in. Has to be one of the worst ever, as it is one of the most obvious ever IMO.

Got up on the wrong side of the bed.

Nobody's perfect.

There was a reflection in my glasses.

My contact lens was dislodged or fell out.

Bad acid.

My view was obstructed.

Distracted by fan.

It wasn't my call.

Unreviewable.

My contract was through 2018, that's not in my job description.

See my attorney.

Yeah, it's like the "immaculate reception." It can't be as bad as this because this also failed on the replay. It's why replay exists. To fix obviously bad calls.

The Russell Wilson inter-TD wasn't a bad call because Wilson is just magic.

That guy lost a perfect game because of the terrible call....I don't see how it isn't worse, honestly. But then again, that is the result of the bad call. All else being equal, that out was a bit closer and far less obvious live than was this out-of-bounds play.

That was actually going to be my argument. They need to fix their court. It's goddamn hideous.

Don't recall that play, and I'm not a fan, but agree, Wilson is an amazing athlete. He's also obviously really intelligent what with his longevity playing quarterback while being so relatively small.

Well, this is their last season at Oracle Arena.

His first season, I think, winning in GB on a last-second interception through in the endzone that was called a TD, even on review (it was caught simultaneously with, I believe, the GD defender coming away with the ball). But again, Wilson is just magic so obviously the only right call is to give him the TD.

This is one of the worst one I've seen- hell, don't even need the video, just look at the picture and you already clearly see he's offside!

Didn't help the Pens though, they allowed so many goals in that series...

I was hoping that my choice of rhetorical argument there would make it easier for others to understand the issue.

What about Brett Hull's skate being clearly in the crease (back when that was still a rule), on the winning goal that won the Stanley cup for Dallas over NJ back in ~99?

That's certainly right up there with the top worst calls ever.
NFL just fired an official for missing a bad false start.

That's why make up calls were made. Easier for the NBA vs the NFL.
