Thats the same thing about 9/10th of the people currently in the military have said.

I dont want to sound harsh but dont have a clue what its about until you actually join and go to your first duty station. Speculating while on the outside is totally pointless.

Thats why I dont think too highly of Cindy Williams. She is certainly entitled to voice her opinion, heck I expect civilians to question us constantly. But she was completely ignorant and should not have been making declarations without a frame of reference.
And I believe that for just about anything, not only the services.

If you work on the flightline.. you will see things gets more interesting there

The final part (the "Piss off") was totally unnecessary, totally unprofessional and so on.
I agree with you in everything else.

By the way, PT is physical training, PTL would be PT leader, I don't know about the rest

My brother is Lt in the army and I asked him about ranks and stuff whenever I visited and he said while technically he outranks all NCOs, he would get his ass kicked if he tried to order some of them around.

From what I understood the OP is a SSgt or E-5 and the PTL is a E-1 thru E-4 because the OP said the guy addressed himself as airmen which is E-1 thru E-4. So the OP outranks el duche bago PTL. Your right though, officers outrank all enlisted even if your an E-9 and have been in the military for 25+ yrs an O-1 on the first day of their military career outranks you. Now you gotta be out of your mind to think that means diddly squat cause for the most part until you hit O-3 you dont really run anything, or at least this is what I have seen in the AF.

yea, the SFC (Sergeant First Class) that instructs my first year ROTC class said that while a fresh 2LT will outrank any NCO, that you will likely be consulting many NCO's for knowledge and to treat them with respect. And that while you'll get NCO's that treat 2LT's like sh!t, you should respectively order them to respect you. Meaning, don't try and put him in his place, just talk to him and try to gain some respect through showing that you respect him.
I know for sure I'll never try to pull anything off like that once I'm a 2LT.

I think regardless of rank, as long as you treat people nicely and with respect, people will treat you nicely and with respect as well.

As a commissioned officer, there's no point pulling rank all the time because you 'll just anger the guys who actually help you do the things. If all your NCOs hate you, you aren't going to get much done.

I'd have locked his heels so hard that you wouldn't have been able to slide a pencil lead up his ass.

I was running, thats how I keep sane.

BTW, here are some pics of the AF PT uniform to make you all gouge your eyes out. That was a quasi-NSFW warning, by the way.

Oh, thats not me. Thats a guy I went to tech school with.

And I'm going to wish JoeKing good luck pursuing BTZ. I hear its package only now, but you still have to learn to dance the political dance to get that third stripe 6 months early. And if you do get it, remember you are still an airman, its only 1 more stripe. No need to have your ego expand exponentially. It will gain you some extra points on your E5 test though, depending on when the cut off dates are situated around your BTZ cycle.

oh man you're living in the dorms? geeze I wish they'd let me out already.

But yeah I'm just doing a 4 year term and my goal is to hit Staff or at least get in line for staff before I get out. And BTZ is a must for this to happen.

BTW here's what the future of the air force is doing in tech school nowadays
*warning* gross homoerotic content, not suitable for all ages
That video should be entitled Fun With Seamen in the Navy.

Seriously, these little ****** airmen need to be put in their place. If I had a dollar for every time I told our PT leaders to go fck themselves I would be a rich man.

Also, I have ten dollars that the douche bag was a green rope in tech school.

You know what I, as an E-4 & E-5, used to tell the young O-1's that came to stand under instruction watch with me?? "Sir, no disrespect intended, but if you have any brains at all, while you're training, learn to keep your eyes and ears open, and your mouth shut, unless you have an intelligent question to ask."
When they'd ask why I said that, I reminded them that the enlisted guys that would eventually be working under them (once they became a watch officer) had dozens of years of experience, versus the ZERO experience they had.....and that we could, without much effort, make their life as a watch officer wonderful, or miserable.
Those that listened, generally became good to great guys to stand watches with, and under. Those that didn't were generally brain-washed academy pukes, who eventually learned their lesson the hard way!!

Oh yeah, and if you really want to know what happens to young 2Lt's that think they know more than their senior nco's, consider that there were more 2Lt's killed in Viet Nam, than there were senior nco's.......and far too often, it was a result of friendly fire!!

Those look a lot shorter than my Coast Guard pt shorts, at least from what I remember. I think I still have a couple of pairs around, I will have to go dig them up and see.

Word. The blue ropes were assholes. Where did you go to tech school? I was at Keesler in '01. 336 TRS. You were lucky if you made it out of there without doing RMT at least once.

Him - If you don't leave, I will make sure you get an LoC (Letter of Counseling) for disrespecting me.

What the hell is that? We were regularly "disrespected" in the Navy by those that outranked us. That is how we all became ace mop, bucket, and buffer operators.

Reminds me of when I lived near on a military base as a dependant. My dad was not with the military and they had a midnight curfew. I came strolling in about an hour after curfew and the MP's started to hassle me. After being threatend with being reported to my non existant CO, I had to flash a diplomatic ID to shut them up.

Heh, I used to love messing with the tech school kids at Edgewater mall. I remember once when I was in JROTC at Biloxi High and a tech schooler had his cover fall on the floor in the mall. I got on to him about it and he freaked out.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to join up.

For the unknowing:

Complete list of rankings of the USAF:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force#Grade_Structure

For the sake of the story, SSgt (Staff Sargent) is on the NCO (Non-Commishioned Officer) Grade Structure and is one rank/grade above the highest "Enlisted" grade structure. The Enlisted Grade Structure goes "Senior Airman", "Airman 1st Class", "Airman", then "Airman Basic" (in highest to lowest rank)

Cliffs: OP Outranked the guy.

Hah I remeber Edgewater! Or at least what was left of it post Katrina when I passed through. Went through the 338th for the first half of my training then went to Ft. Meade for the 2nd half and became part of the 336th.
