Hello,

just in case somebody didn't get similar e-mail, u better change ur CC, if you were on record with thenerds.net

here's the e-mail I got from "hacker" ... and thenerds.net didn't send me any e-mail :|

From: Mr. Zilterio <zilterio@yahoo.com>
To: wm@uk2.net
Subject: Your account has been hacked
Date: Wed May 02 Russian Daylight Time
Sender: Mr. Zilterio <zilterio@yahoo.com>
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.3018.1300

Dear, Anton V XXXXX

I hate to inform you that your account
has been hacked on THENERDS.NET. This site has
a very weak security protection system and
the database with credit cards and other
personal information is not protected at all.
Your personal details:

name: Anton V XXXXX (id: XXXX )
email: wm@uk2.net , password: XXXXX
address: XXXMy Address hereXXXX

phone: XXXMY PhoneXXX ,

Your credit card (account) information:

card number: XXXmy CC#XXXX
expiration time: 112001 (good thing it already expired )

We offered them our help many times. But top
management of THENERDS.NET doesn't care about
their customers - you. They care only about
their money.

This is really too bad,I ordered my last new motherboard from them and got great service but anyone whos bought from them needs to take action now...(I got the following in email today)
Dear Customer,

Thank you for your patience and understanding with regards to the hacking of the
customer databases at TheNerds.net. Please know the email you received earlier
today describing the situation was sent as soon as we became aware our data was
compromised. Unfortunately, due to the number of messages sent, you might have
experienced a delay in receiving this e-mail. As we described in that message,
there was no indication at that time that any customer information had been
compromised.

After conferring with the FBI, Secret Service and several valued customers, it
has become clear that your personal and credit card information might have been
compromised. In fact, some customers even received their credit card numbers
from this self-confessed cyber-terrorist over a non-secure internet connection.
Because of this most unfortunate development, we highly recommend that all
previous customers contact their credit card company, inform them that your card
might be compromised and seek their recommendation for a course of action.

In addition, we are pleased to report we have discovered and repaired the hole
which this criminal used to violate each of us. Unfortunately, Microsoft made
the public aware of the hole just last week. In addition to repairing the hole,
we are now changing the way our customer information is stored. Customer data
will no longer be accessible by anyone, even our internal staff, over any type
of Internet connection.

We sincerely invite your feedback and are happy to answer any questions, however
note this is a no-reply email address. Becuase we are using a newsletter
managment system to send this to you, messages sent as a reply to this e-mail
might not be read by our staff. Should you wish to contact us via e-mail, please
write to info@thenerds.net. In addition, should you wish to call us, you may do
so at 888-566-NERD from 8:30 - 6:00 EST. Thank you for the many emails we
received from you today. We will surely answer each email, however as you can
imagine, we are currently focusing on fixing the immediate problem at hand.

Again, thank you for your patience and understanding. We hope to service your
computer needs in the near future.

Regards,

Jeremy Schneiderman and David Kriegstein

geez, I got the same emails from The Nerds.Net. I have not received one from the hacker yet.

Here is the major problem........the receipts I have printed out from The Nerds.Net do not show your CC information. I have a pile of credit cards. I cannot find all of the statements for all the different credit cards I have used there. So, I call there within 30 minutes of receipt of the emails......no one answers!!!!! I received the emails at 7:15 PM EST. I call at 7:45 PM EST. They close at 6:00 PM EST.

People.........the entire customer database is compromised, they send out a series of emails warning the customers, then, at 6:00 PM EST they all run out the door and jump in their cars and go home as if nothing big has happened!!!! How unprofessional!! What idiots!!!! Would it have hurt to have several employees stay later and answer calls from the customers?!!!!! Maybe give me some info. and help to calm my fears?!!!! I had really liked this company, but now I must force myself to never purchase from them again. I have alreadt emailed them a nasty little note, I would have hoped that they would have been as concerned as I am about this situation.....

actually I was able to get an Asus TUSl2-c mobo for $20 less from The Nerds.Net than what was being offered at Newegg, Googlegear, AxionTech, Mwave, TCComputers, or Monarch. This is essentially the entire list of companies I am willing to deal with on the net.

chrisjor, you can try to login to your accounts and pretend to order 1 item and see if you credit card# show up directly in the checkout.

I had my cc on their db and it is already expired.. I don't know if I should still cancel the card, any thought?

Blu3,

Thanks dood!! That is what I did (place pretend order) and I was able to get everything I needed. If I were you, I would definitely call CC company, after acquiring the number the exp. date is just hit or miss..particularly since he knows the original exp. date!!!!

I still cannot believe they closed up shop and went home at 6:00 last night after all this happened!!!

Anyone who got the email care to post the headers? IIRC, YAHOO! appends the IP of the sender up there in one of the X regons...

*evil laugh*

Naw, but he is probably using an anony proxy, or a russian ISP.

Not only that, but they could have easily sent the mail from thenerds.net, since they owned it.
