Well, the rule is bumping can only be done every 4 hours. Seeing the thread is almost a year old, that works out to just about 2 posts per day. Excessive? maybe. Against the rules? no.

He still for the most part follows the 4 hour bump rule, I see no problem with that. Looks like the thread length & age warning e-mail has been de-stickied some time ago in the forum, so I can't blame him for not noticing that either.

Ive seen threads half that age with half the posts get locked in half the time. This one is under the radar in that regard.

I would say the issue is not the bumping, its the thread itself.

Actually, yes he is.

Please start a new thread if your current thread has more that 300 replies or is more than 3 months old. Long threads get difficult to navigate and old threads need to archive. If necessary, you can add to or edit the original posts to include a link from one thread to the other.

But that is just being picky. It is not a huge deal in the great scheme of things.

It's ok I'll bash him some more

It's fine to have a year old thread, but its bad for the OP (of the sale thread) because it'll be hard for him to navigate / possibly others

That quote is from the "courtesy" section, not the "rules". And, that quote wasn't in there when the above thread was created.

I agree about it not being there when he started the thread, but I am a little confused about the rest of your post.

Are you meaning that it is not an actual RULE, therefore does not need to be adhered to? Does that mean that thread crapping, multiple threads and flaming/usless posts are not against the rules, just a choice of courtesy?

Actually it looks like he's just offering to throw a mix of spare parts into two systems he wants to sell. In other words, he's not saying "I can build 50 computers just tell me what you want and I'll charge $100 to build them"
What he's saying is more like "I have two dual athlons, here's the price for bare bones case/psu/mobo/vid, and if you want some of my spare memory kicking around, or my spare MP cpus, or my spare 40 or 60 gig hdd, let me know and I'll plug them all together and make sure they work for you"

If you wanted to be really picky, he might need to say in the thread the minimum prices for those two systems (since you are supposed to mention a price in the thread), but I dont belive he's violating the build rule. You'll notice that the build rule mentions "each" and he can't really do an "each" with just two single systems The prices for the 2 are unique.

I'm saying it doesn't make much sense to treat an old lengthy thread as if it were a violation of one of the actual rules. Every user here has their own differring opinions on what the forum courtesies are, how serious they are, and how they should be dealt with. I don't think you could ever take one of the courtesies and have a clear definition and clear punishment, as the situations are always unique. IIRC, the spirit of that quote against age & length was to stop the threads that get continually bumped by others to the point where you cannot figure out if the thread's original creater was still keeping up with it or not. That's clearly not the situation here.

I didn't catch this earlier, but that thread is certainly in clear violation of this other rule:
No links to lists of items offered for sale, trade, etc. on other sites. Please list your items in your thread.
So if the mods want to get after him for that, then so be it.

Fear not, I'm still watching my original thread. If you'd like me to move the Athlon stuff into the main post, PM me and then bump my original thread (to make sure I see your PM!)

Thanks.

How is it that you cannot see a PM unless your thread is bumped?
