Since all of my systems ( AMD & Intel ) are AGP, switching to PCIe means a COMPLETE ( except drives ) system upgrade, not just a mobo. I have 3.2 GHz P4 Northwood ( 30 cappers too!! ) systems, so I won't be upgrading until '06 when Intel FINALLY releases chips with better thermals.

I'll upgrade when I want to, not when a bunch of marketing twits tell me to.

I e-mailed 'em. Unfortunately I suspect that web page is meant for the X800, not an X1800. I'll post when and if i get a response from Diamond.

Ah screw this, I'm ordering the first AGP 6800GT that becomes available the moment it does.

Awesome, I just hope nvidia follows and releases a 7800GT agp and sells it for 300$ (its 320$ now so one can hope) as well as release a 6800GS AGP version that sells for 200$.
Negative on the 6800GS. PCI-E native chip and they just released the GS to empty chip stock
They could technically use the HSI bridge chip on it. That way they'll be able to empty out their chip stock faster.

er, 6800GT was available 1.5 years ago in AGP form factor.

She won't help you. This is Diamonds move, if indeed it's not a typo.

Whether they do produce an AGP version or not it is apparent that there has been some sloppy cut 'n' pasting by their webmonkeys. While the X1600 description is similar in touting both PCIe and AGP it also tellingly reads:

-
RADEON X800 Technology Specifications
Features
Native PCI Express x16 bus interface
AGP 8x configurations also supported with AGP-PCI-E external bridge chip
-

The system requirements sections could likewise have mostly been copied from the X800XL. So while I do hope this pans out I ain't getting all excited just yet.

Personally I'd love an AGP version so that I can upgrade my graphics without a complete rebuild/reinstall. I seem to not have as much time as I used to, when I could reformat/reinstall once or twice a month.

My Socket 754 @ 2.5ghz has enough oomph to go with one of these cards. From a business perspective, I don't know why you wouldn't want to release an AGP version of these cards AFTER the initial bleeding-edge enthusiasts have bought PCI-E variants.

It seems to me that if one of the companies blinked and released an AGP version, it could catch momentum in the marketplace, and force the other companies' hand to do the same thing.

$50 to have a more recent chipset and the ability to upgrade to whatever PCI-E card you want? I don't think anyone would call that worthless...
I'd rather save the $50 (and trouble of replacing a motherboard) and plug along with my painfully slow SATA 150 drives and Athlon 64 X2 @ 2.6GHz. If Nvidia doesn't release an AGP 7800GT or GTX, I'll probably jump on an X1800XL.

I would when you consider that I do not own a bank and can't just go buy brand new stuff all the time like that. Plus there is no OS reinstall necessary etc.

there are plenty of errors BUT it's pretty clear the description is an x1800, not x800 from the SM 3.0 support to .09 micron technology to 512MB internal ring bus . . . could be a x1600 mess up but i doubt it . . . there is WAY too much info on the AGP version.

at ANY rate i expect a partner or ati will offer it - sooner or later - it makes financial sense since there IS demand . . . and of course nVidia will follow with an AGP GTX [just to cut into ATI's market share for this "niche"]

Awesome an XL would be perfect!

I think some folks will have to change their tune from 'Die AGP Die' to 'I heard Nvidia will have their AGP GTX out 2 days before ATI!' Not naming names or anything.

Seriously, I agree with Cainam. People with great overclocking AGP motherboards (like the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum) are not going to want to sacrafice their OCs for a cheap motherboard that only runs solid at stock settings.

wow....I'm going to start a web site with AGP cards on it to....think of all the free advertising

good move Diamond

and did anyone see that its not just one new AGP ATI card...but all of them
http://www.diamondmm.com/viper.php

(but they list the same "SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS" for all the X1000 cards)

but...sorry, I think they just wouldn't kind of hide that they were doing the whole line of X1000 cards in AGP...they would make that info alittle more up front if they were really doing it

X1600 & X1300 will be available in AGP, it was known earlier.
