why would Paul Allen try to buy the Warriors. He already has the Blazers.

You're thinking Larry Ellison. Anyhow why overbid. They(allen, ellison and others) are not rich by throwing the money away when you don't have to.

Larry still has a chance at the hornets if he wants. Though I'm sure he'd like to move them to San Jose, NBA might not want to deal with that right now with the Kings possible move creating controversy.

Ooops, my bad. I got my millionaires mixed up. Move the Kings out of Sac and move a team into SJ? Actually makes sense. SJ is a much better area than that crap hole area Sacramento if you ask me.

Love the headline:
"Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen gives "60 Minutes" a tour of his estate, yacht, space rocket, and, yes -- his very own submarine"

Cause a space rocket is something all rich people have, but a submarine .... now that's a rare bird.

The clip actually made him look likable in my eyes, the type of guy I would like to hang out with. I have seen “worst” things people have done with their money. He has all the stuff every geek would want and is not a one trick pony.
You can visit his planes it's a private museum. The house seems a bit big for my taste but the yacht is cool and who wouldn't want a spaceship or a submarine.

You can talk about bad wealth concentration and the destruction of the middle class in this country, but merely being wealthy doesn't mean ones the devil or necessarily part of the problem.

You don't have your own space shift? What are you . . . some kind of pauper?

I have no problem with how the Wealthy Spend their $. It's their $, their Choice. However, clearly they(those above a certain level) are not hurting and can Afford to pay more in Tax. This is the crux of the matter.

The comments are pretty ... stupid.

Rock on Paul, 90% to charity upon death is pretty epic of him. Does he list what charities?

To put that into perspective..he's currently with $13 billion.

Donating 90% leaves him with $1.3 billion
99% leaves him with $130 million
99.9% leaves him with $13 million
99.99% leaves him with $1.3 million

If you could get 5% annual return on $1.3 million, most people in the US would be living relatively comfortably at $65k year.

Now that's filthy rich.

Because he's rich, and I have a right to tell him what to do with his money. I don't think he's using it or spending it appropriately for the betterment of society. His money could be much better spent on other things instead of what he wants. We should all be outraged I tell you. This is an outrage. I'm very outrageous.

You don't need to defend the rich. He's already rich. He won.

Here's Paul Allen's personal collection of WWII aircraft:

Note that these aircraft are maintained in flying condition, and that there are scheduled "free fly" dates when you can actually see them in their element!

I really should be there on 6/18 or 8/6 when this one takes to the air:

It's not just a FW 190, it's one of the long-nosed variants produced near the end of the war. I was literally dumbstruck the first time I saw it.

And good for him. I would like to learn from what he did instead of stealing his money by rule of law

Fuck Obama. May the the great fuck be upon him. FBHO.

This. QFT.

The comments in the article are pathetic and disgusting. Wonder if those idiots realize he's creating more jobs by living this way then most of the Federal Stimulus projects?

Not sure if serious...

Take his yacht alone. He bought the boat from the company that built it, employing all those workers. Not to mention the sales tax on that purchase alone. Pretty sure he doesn't crew it himself, so he's paying a crew to man it. Maintenance too. And he's probably paying mooring or docking fees somewhere for it. All the furnishings inside it cost money, which employed other people. And generated tax revenue in sales tax AND income tax because the people who made them paid taxes too. I could go on for a while on just the boat, and I haven't gotten to his construction projects.

Face it, Paul Allen probably pays more in taxes in a year then all of ATOT combined does in a decade.

And people wonder why Steve Jobs is hated when you have great rich people like Paul Allen and Bill Gates that aren't arrogant A-Holes.

Hey... the stuff that Paul Allen builds is cool. I liked the SciFi museum and the Music Experience Project in Seattle, and I'm glad that he financed Space Ship One. Somebody had to prove that it could be done!

Don't forget that Larry Ellison's money brought the America's Cup back to the US as well. Good for him.

I'm a bit disappointed that folks Steve Jobs, Steve Ballmer, and Warren Buffett aren't building cool stuff like this with their billions. Hell... between the three of them, they could do something REALLY cool like fund a private spaceflight to Mars.

At the end of the submarine clip, there is a young woman in the submarine who is also waiving at the camera...
Most likely -she is his intern taking a joy ride as one of the office perks

Sweet. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him when the reporter mentioned that he has a band "on call...guys he pays to come jam with him whenever he wants..." If you've seen the movie Funny People, it reminded me exactly of the scene where Adam Sandler has to pay people to play in his band because he has no real friends to jam with.

I know Paul's keyboardist. The guy's name is Gary and his other job is working with the Billy Graham Crusade as one of the chief musical directors. He's friends with my dad. Apparently he'll just get random calls from Paul like, "hey, I heard about this awesome studio in London so we're flying there tomorrow to record a few tracks."
