There is ZERO evidence that solar panels don't cause cancer.

http://arstechnica.com/science/2015...pernicious-big-solar-plan-to-suck-up-the-sun/
The citizens of Woodland, N.C. have spoken loud and clear: They don't want none of them highfalutin solar panels in their good town. They scare off the kids. "All the young people are going to move out," warned Bobby Mann, a local resident concerned about the future of his burg. Worse, Mann said, the solar panels would suck up all the energy from the Sun.

Another resident—a retired science teacher, no less—expressed concern that a proposed solar farm would block photosynthesis, and prevent nearby plants from growing. Jane Mann then went on to add that there seemed to have been a lot of cancer deaths in the area, and that no one could tell her solar panels didn't cause cancer. “I want information," Mann said. "Enough is enough."

These comments were reported not in The Onion, but rather by the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald. They came during a Woodland Town Council meeting in which Strata Solar Company sought to rezone an area northeast of the town, off of US Highway 258, to build a solar farm. The council not only rejected the proposal, it went a step further, voting for a complete moratorium on solar farms.

That seemed to please the residents evidently tired of Big Solar's relentless intrusion into their community. One resident, Mary Hobbs, said her home was surrounded by solar farms and has lost its value. That led Ars to the satellite view of Woodland on Google Maps, to see if we could verify the veracity of Hobbs' claims. This publication will not look the other way as Big Solar attempts to railroad the good citizens of small-town America. Alas, when we looked at the satellite view we didn't see any sign of solar farms as we perused the verdant fields and woods of the aptly named Woodland.
Just go to the article source (which is, again, not The Onion) to look at all those solar panels already in the area. It's a wonder there were enough people left not dead from cancer to convene the meeting.

When in North Carolina you name your proposed solar project, "God's Light for the People".

It's not just the people who are morons.

Yeah, those solar panels suck up all the solar light, killing off all the other plants in the area.

WTF??

And to think some of those crazy comments come from a science teacher? Yowser, doesn't make me feel very optimistic about what the kids have been taught by that person!

Now I can definitely see valid points when talking about how massive panel fields can affect property values and such, but sucking up all the solar radiation? Wow, just wow.

Before the internet a crazy old man would largely go ignored and be left alone.

Ironically despite us all reading about him online I bet he doesn't give a shit and is watching fox news right now.

The science is sound. Any solar radiation not sucked up by solar panels bounces off the earth and back to the sun where it recharges the sun's core. Too many solar panels and the sun will run out of energy. We have to be careful here when messing with God's fragile design.

Hmm.... you might be right. I stand corrected. Down with solar panels!

It's okay good citizens. Just drop by once a week and shine some grade-A quality American light on those plants and you'll perk them right up. If you need any assistance in this plant saving endeavor I'll sell you an All-American flashlight. Just pay "shipping and handling". :whiste:

Yeah! And back to oil and coal a much safer alternative. God forbid small companies and household start producing their own energy!

It's good to see that sometimes CBDs can see what they look like, when the defectiveness is really really really really really really off the charts.

This appears to be a case of a misleading click-bait tabloid being mistaken for legitimate journalism because the story appeals to the superiority complex of democrats.

The only story seems to be that the town already has 3 solar farms, and some residents did not want this particular area to be re-zoned to industrial from residential without a vote instead of being directly approved by the town council. There were one or two kooks that said some silly things in the meeting that got reported as news because making fun of people saying dumb things is news - but only if it can be blamed on rednecks/republicans/conservatives. Never democrats.

What part of that makes it click-bait tabloid? The original article is from a real newspaper. It is legitimate journalism. There was a vote. This was the vote. I don't understand your comment.

Because the narrative is different.

Preventing industrial zoning because something else could setup there is legitimate. Saying solar panels cause cancer is nonsense.

Everyones brain then makes the jump to preventing solar is nonsense.

When you read information like 3rd hand on the internet you generally don't have the full story. We don't know either way. I generally still have some faith in humanity and figure its the reasonable route.

There is motivation to post articles on the internet that are basically nonsense because they get attention. Its a known phenomenon that if you want to get the answer to a question online you answer it incorrectly yourself first. Same thing with articles. If you want everyone to agree with your article you post something clearly stupid.

I like how 'it's only one or two kooks' means you can't judge the whole group, but when conservatives are discussing their dreaded, filthy libruhls and dems this concern about painting with a wide brush goes right out the window.

I guess we all just need to pretend that GOP leaders don't routinely say shit just as stupid and ignorant as some of these North Carolina folks have, or that GOP voters don't overwhelmingly see greater use of fossil fuels as the way out of our energy issues.

http://www.apnorc.org/news-media/Pa...icans-democrats-at-odds-on-energy-issues.aspx

I think anyone butthurt about this story can blow it out their ass, their taking offense from it is meaningless.

I don't suppose this could be a reaction to http://www.govtech.com/fs/New-Legis...Solar-Power-Production-in-North-Carolina.html now could it?

The constant fight against ignorance. Science has two sided problem. Researching new technologies and trying to defend decades old research from morons.

Jesus taught many things, but the primary lessons were:

Thou shalt roll coal.
Thou shalt stock enough ammo to kill all thine enemies.
and
Life begins at masturbation and ends when you cross international borders illegally.

Try reading the newspaper article again.

The city has authorized 3 solar farms, but NONE are working. In fact, if you'd read and comprehended what was written, you'd have read this:

Three other solar farms had previously been accepted by the town council, with one of them now putting solar panels up.

This means none are working and only one is actually active at this point, and presently only in the construction phase.

And as for the "residential" zone being intruded upon....it's wide open farm land that was being discussed, not a residental area as most people understand residential areas. It is woodland, undeveloped except for whatever sections are currently being farmed. Did you even look at the satellite images of the town, which has a population of 809, per the 2010 census? It's a typical southern, very rural, very agricultural based small town.

The town is actually heavily Democratic, as is the mayor and 2-3 of the commissioners.

http://censusviewer.com/city/NC/Woodland

Anyways, this sounds like NIMBYism or a negotiating tactic since the town and its inhabitants don't benefit at all from the presence of the solar farms.

Yeah...kinda like some progressives and their views on GMOs and such.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-liberals-war-on-science/

Myopia is a relatively common problem in our society. Wouldn't you agree?

Definitely agree. Liberals go goofy over GMOs because of the kids. I hate them because of Monsanto patents and farmers who want to save seed. There are rational and irrational people on the same and opposite sides of many issue. Don't forget however that it is a scientifically proven fact that when it comes to truth denial over things that offend the ego, conservatives beat out liberals. It seems you always ignore this fact. I guess it's that myopia problem.
